I don't think it was ever money so much as the players preference, he has been quite open about not liking the Premier League, I think it is actually a good display of self awareness that he knows he would struggle in the league and is not going to screw up his career like that.

I will try Mitrovic as an option. if he is cheap, get him until we have a solid option next summer.
I like him, but he's 30 now, gets nicked a lot, and his glacial pace will only get worse by the year. Not to mention he won't be cheap. The time to get him was 4 years ago sadly...I think he would have been massive for us, but that time has passed.
Vardy looking more and more likely.
IMHO, Gyökeres and Osimhen are the only two that would produce any sort of measurable upgrade. Otherwise its moving deck chairs on the Titanic...

They may be the best options, but there are numerous other strikers that would measurably improve on the worst United striker in modern history.

Liverpool just won the PL without a «proper striker». Runner up had no proper striker either.
If we cant get a good striker, bringing in someone like David on a free to rotate with Zirkzee, allowing us to spend more on the rest of the team is not a bad option in my opinion.

Yeah he’s no typical target man, and more of a mobile striker that likes to drifts into space and then challenge 1v1 as well as being good with his positioning in the box.
He did play his best football as the striker in a 3521 at Frankfurt so the formation/system could/should be a good fit for him.
I'd have him over Hojlund and that's not even a joke either.
I think our system is a lot more reliant on a recognised striker. We don't have wide forwards chipping in with ten/fifteen goals.
Think this could change if we bring in Mbuemo along with Cunha playing off Zirkzee. Not though if our 10s are Mount, Mainoo, Bruno types
VG has to be the option. Otherwise it’s a very mediocre signing we can expect up top but it will be a bloody hard sell to get him here.
To me, it seems very logical to bring in a goalscorer who is tailor-made for this system. Even in this dreadful season, we’ve seen that if we had had a proper striker, we most likely wouldn’t have ended up in the relegation battle, nor lost the Europa League final. Of course, this is just speculation, but my opinion is that if the finances, sales, and so on allow it, then we go out and get “goals” up front as well.
I also think Joao Pedro could be an option. Probably too expensive.
I think Chelsea buy another and bin Jackson, one of Joao Pedro or Etikike. Liverpool buy the other one of those. Osinheim is Saudi bound and always has been.
So we pray that Arsenal get Sesko instead of Gyokeres, otherwise we’re onto the real second rung of talent, Mateta, Schick, Boniface etc.

I presume the club have alternatives to delap in mind. Be interesting to see who it is.
Lack of European football especially CL is a real pain point.

It would be the other way round. Mbeumo can play CF. Cunha can’t. People keep suggesting it but it would be Rashford all over again

Cunha’s played the majority of his career games at CF. I agree though that he’s better in a deeper role and Mbuemo has played a lot up front.
While I’m thinking about it, the idea of signing these two along with Oihan Sancet of Bilbao as a Havertz type would appeal. He is ostensibly an AM but is a big lad, good in the air, decent hold up play etc. I can’t see why he can’t be converted to being a striker. Alas, there’s been big rumours that Arsenal want him and intend to play him there.

He'd be an ideal stop gap for a year loan if we can't land the striker we want this summer. Combining him with Cunha and Mbeumo would be effective imo.

That Burkhart from Mainz looks really really good but I think Bayern will pick him up at some point. 24 years old scores some fantastic goals I think he's got 18/19 in the Bundesliga this yearnand looks a good player.

They’ll both choose Arsenal so then it’s up to Arsenal which one they want. Aren’t Liverpool still after a ST aswell? There’s a lot of teams after ST this summer. Just so happens we miss out on CL football so can’t offer what the others can
Isn't Callum Wilson on a free from Newcastle as a stop gap, he does however get injured a bit
Theres no escaping the reality that proven strikers will score goals. If you look at the golden shoe for goals across europe, you have older players we might turn up our nose at in terms of age but kane, lewandowski, salah all scoring bucket loads. Proven scorers like haaland, mbappe, isak, will keep scoring. I really think that this season we need to sign somebody with a track record of scoring - and I'm not devastated over Delap who may turn out very good, but would have been a good signing if signing two.
One name overlooked is Patrick Schick. Hes 29, a strong, powerful player who Alonso rates highly - so much so he's been linked with Madrid. He's just had a 27 goal season and has averaged a goal every 2 games with Leverkusen over the past 5 years. He has a slightly better record with his national team. His transfer fee would be manageable, and okay, lets say we need to upgrade in 2-3 years - so be it, hopefully we will be doing it from a much stronger position.

We will end up with a freebie striker, Calvert-Lewin, Danny Ings and Callum Wilson are all out of contract.
What ever few goals they get could be vital in our battle to get 40 points next season and avoid relegation.
