According to SAF, both Rooney & Berba are doubtful for Aston Villa this weekend :nervous:

fecking dippers think that without Gerrard & Torres, then they have a crisis. What we have is a fecking injury crisis. Down to the bare bones in defence, first choice GK possibly still not fit and now according to the boss, our two main strikers are doubtful.

Gill is a centre back, right? Chuck him in.

I've never seen the big deal about top spot, you're gunna have to beat the best at some stage anyway. Obviously you'd like to get the first knockout game done and dusted to get some momentum up and get the confidence rolling, but it's not the be all and end all. Bring on the big guns, we're up for the fight.
Simple maths, if you draw 4 teams you have a 50/50 chance of beating, you've only got a 6% chance of winning it, if you draw a team you're 90% sure of beating, and then 3 50/50s, your chances are nearly twice as good.

Huh? And since when is beating a team that won their group only a 50% chance, while beating the team that comes second is 90% certain?

If you're gonna use mathematical probability, you really shouldn't pluck percentages out of your arse like that.

I'd go

PIG
Fletcher Carrick De Laet Evra

Okay, it's been mentioned a few times in the last few days on here but it seems there's some people haven't picked up on it - De Laet cannot play tomorrow night as he's not CL registered.

TBH, I'm not as much fussed tomorrow night. We'll obviously played a depleted side because of injuries and all the lads can do is give it their all and do the best they can. I'm more concerned with Saturday and the visit of Aston Villa.

Amidst squeaky bums.
At least by the sounds of things we'll have Brown, Evra and Vidic for Saturday, with the laws of probability inferring we should have one of Berbatov and Rooney available

Wow, that looks so out of place.

I'd go

Fletcher Carrick (Reserves Defender?) Evra
I stuck Evra CB because after the game Fergie said he would use him there again despite him being short. However the only problem would be him versus Dzeko. It was that exact situation that led to him scoring in the game at OT. Hopefully Carrick's height can help us out.

The height of Dzeko and Grafite is what worries me most.

Yes, add the pace of Martins into the mix and our makeshift back line could be in for a torrid time.

I know no one could have foreseen this injury crisis, but Fergie's decision not to register Tosic for the Champions League is even more bizarre now. Tosic has experience playing left-back, so he'd probably be an option there.

I mentioned this earlier somewhere.

Evra has to start in the middle for me. We need some pace in there beside Carrick. I think Anderson may play on the left instead of Nani with Gibson in the middle.

I'm explaining why it's better to play weaker teams earlier on, how the feck do you expect me to accurately assess our percentage chances when I don't know which teams we'll be playing, or who will be available for the matches?

Not so worried about tomorrows game to be honest weve all ready qualified and even though it would obviously be better to win the group its not the be all and end all...however im more worried about the weekends game..at the moment it looks like this is the best we can hope for:

Kuszazck

Fletcher
Brown?
Vidic (back from flu?)
Evra

Valencia
Carrick
Scholes
Nani/Park

Giggs
Owen

That would worry me...

You're the one throwing out percentages, not me.

You've blithely assumed that beating the team that wins it's group will always be significantly harder than beating the second-place team. This isn't always the case.

- Vidic is still sick and did not travel

- O'Shea and Evans' injuries will keep them out until the new year.

- Carrick and Fletcher will likely play in defense.

- Also making the trip - Oliver Gill (son of David), Magnus Eikrem, Cameron Stewart, Matte James and Oliver Norwood.

Might be a silly question, but is there ANY chance we might not qualify? ie we lose by a big margin (screwing up our goal difference) and Moscow win as well?

What part of weve already qualified do some people not understand? weve been qualified for 3 weeks now....its really very simple...we could lose 75-0 and still qualify!!!!
It is so annoying, looks like some people live in a cave or have chosen not to read anything here but their post.

no we have already qualified because CSKA cannot overtake us since we have a better head-to head record against them, the problem for us now is to try and clinch top spot in the group with our weakened side....

Might be contoversial this but Id seriously consider leaving out Evra for this one and play a youngster at left back considering we cant afford to lose him what with all the other defenders out and we'll need him fit for the weekend game big time...no point risking losing another key player especially at the back in a match thats when put into perspective not nearly as important as the weekend....My thinking is with the squad weve taken out to wolfsburg were in all probability going to struggle to get any sort of result hence why risk the one fit quality defender we do have fit....

Then bring him back in along with Vidic and hopefully fingers crossed Brown come the weekend giving us a fresh and far stronger looking backline against Villa...

But it usually is, and I am talking about the probability of winning the European Cup, which we want to be as high as possible, no?
