If you see United games, the midfield is often easily punctured by the opposition. Too soft, a lack of creativity. Perhaps S.A.F. wants to make sure the replacements are right there. Are we skint? What about the bid by the Red Knights? A busy summer.

I can't really see us making any big name signings in the summer - we dont have the money!!!

Gourcuff, Villa, Silva, Hamsik etc are all out of our budget.

Signing Smalling, Hernandez, Cole etc isn't really good enough is it. We need to buy world class talent, but we cant afford it.

Joe Cole is 28 years old and not good enough for the Chelsea team, so why do we think he's good enough for us?

Are Chelsea a cut above?

What are you sayin man, that we don't sell players when we win the title? Of course we do and have!

Listen I like Carrick but he has disappointed too often! I can almost guarantee you, after watching how the man thinks and operates for 24 years, that Fergie is having doubts about him. I believe its only because of Anderson and Gibsons lack of maturity and Hargreaves injury that Carrick has played so much this year! I wish Carrick was the man in midfield for us but he just isn't!
Even if we somehow miraculously won the league, it is blatantly obvious that we need to improve.
But do we need this revolving door of a half dozen players? We're 2 ref mistakes and a moment of brilliance away from double contention.

If you ask me

Just as much as Owen was worth a punt, Joe Cole on a free (depending on wage demands) would be as good if not better an investment.

Damn right, it's a position we're really potentially going to be lacking in, that is if Tosic, Obertan, Welbeck, etc don't make the cut and Giggs moves on soon... It's not our weakest by any means with Valencia and Nani coming to fantastic form as of late, but Joe Cole would add dimension and hopefully we see a revival of his former self.

Wage demands are the barrier, if it's even a lick like the Owen deal (Nothing a week plus incentives) we should give it a real go.

I fully expect the Glazers to spend a bit this year. Even if long term it means less signings, spending money this year would appease the green and gold campaign a bit, as a few fans would be won over by the short term buys. Especially as they'll probably make about 25 million in sales this summer.

with money.....

what i think needs to happen, not necessarily what will.
out:
berba
macheda (loan)
welbeck (loan)

in:
Smalling
Mexican pea man
central midfielder, hopefully that french bloke, he looks pretty good

I think giggs scholes and nev will all stay for another season. They have all been used heavily in the run in and can definitely still play at this level. They may not play as much as before, but they will be hugely influential on the youngsters coming through. I expect at least two of them to stay on as coaches when they do retire.

We are short of options up front, and if berba leaves that will leave us with Rooney, Owen and then some unproven talent. I can see another striker coming in if Welbeck and Mecheda leave on loan.

The central midfield area lacks creativity so i can see gourcoff ( i know i cant spell his name) coming in IF we dont think anderson will be filling that role.

I can also see Joe Cole or a cheap winger coming in. If either Nani or Valencia are off form like earlier in the season, we become to predictable... more options can only help this. That said hopefully Obertan starts maturing and gets more starts next season.

Last but not least i think Gibson will stay. his performance at Bayern was great i thought, and I think he will become a nice little player ( with a hell of a shot)

Comparing signing Smalling & Hernandez to the likes of Villa, Hamsik, Gourcuff is a bit daft isn't it?.
Dude what is daft is people claiming we have no cash when we spent 11 million on an Unknown like Smalling. Broke people don't do that.

If we can gamble a whole 11 mil on an unknown. Surely we can gamble almost twice that on a more proven player

It makes sense, yeah. But I just cant see us spending mega money.

I hope so though. I think we need to invest BIG time.

You don't almost win the league and do well in the Champions League if you need big investment.

Chelsea need much more investment than us.

Chelsea look to have the league in the bag. We need to invest so we dont feck the CL & league again next season.

And is 'almost winning the league' and 'do well' in the CL good enough?

No.

Course it is. Leagues are won and lost on injuries and referees. We've had bad luck this year. We'll be up there or thereabouts again next year, whereas Chelsea have about 7 key players over 30, and no really young players looking to break into the first team./

IMO I'm convinced we will spend big on at least 1 player next summer. Maybe two if we sell one of our more established stars.

I hope so though. I think we need to invest BIG time.
We are not that badly off mate. Seriously.

Do we actually know what we paid? It would be installments not cash as well in other words I.O.U'S
His fee wasn't a secret. I'm sure we could find the exact amount on the net. From memory alone I believe it was about 11 million. Which was way high to pay for an unknown if one is broke.

Infact. I was wrong by about 3m. According to some of the articles I've found on it. Still though. That's alot to pay for a total unknown IMO.

Have we actually been linked with Gourcuff?
of course not, but he's french, has a cool last name and does neat stuff with a ball so we should definetly blow some cash on him.

we look to need another game winner and creative midfielder... he looks like he could do the job.

I never said that we need a revolving door involving half a dozen players.

I simply stated that it is obvious that we need to improve. Hardly spastic activity saying that.

That's more or less it, as far as I'm concerned.

I simply can't imagine where the optimists are getting their hope from. As far as the Glazers are concerned, qualifying for the Champions League is enough to keep their business model afloat.

As much as I love Sir Alex, he's got no power to speak of anymore when we're talking transfers. Be prepared for many 'Owens' (old, washed up players we might get on a free, and might hope to revive) & 'Obertans'.

I'm as far from a transfer muppet as it's possible to get, but I'm just beyond depressed about the current situation.
As long as the Glazers are in charge we won't invest in the squad as we ought to. We'll just try and keep decent enough not to drop out of the top 4.
