Maybe we have proof his agent has been talking to other clubs behind our back, or hes buying out his contract
I very much doubt he'll go the way of buying out his contract and leaving us. Even he can't fall to those levels and considering the unwritten law among teams not to invoke Websters, can't see that happening.

I'll be disgusted if he gets a new contract after all this. Truely disgusted.

The sooner he's gone, the better. As far as i'm concerned.

Please tell me all these meetings with his representatives weren't to try and thrash out a new deal for the cnut?? when it says "the results of todays meetings will become clear soon2 to me sounds like weve put something on the table and Rooney and his people are considering it, i just hope not, thats like giving the little twat what he wants basically and he dosnt deserve it.

Move on, transfer list him.
Thrashing out a deal with Madrid or another team possibly... hope so!

If we have done a deal with Real, Coleen will have to be persuaded.

rumors in Coleens Liverpool hairdressers to the effect that the Rooneys want to go to Chelsea and enjoy a London life.

Van der Sar's saved it... United again!
That's a good point, actually.

Would be hilarious if Rooney did sign a new contract at United.

The amount of words being eaten by us cnuts would break some kind of record.
Why would we eat our words? I for one stand by each word I have said about him and no contract and no goals will change that. I want him to leave and if he stays, hopefully our fans will make life a misery for him.

I'm a little surprised by all that, not sure what's taking so long. United are surely willing to sell, so the sticking point is what to do with Rooney until January. But surely even his people don't expect everything to be as usual until then, back in training when he's fit and playing. He's burnt his bridges.

New contract discussions? Highly unlikely. They've had enough time to think things over these past few days and still chose to issue that statement yesterday. They're not going to suddenly realise 'Ooh! Rooney should stay!".

Or they could be extending the contract with a gurantee that he will be sold to whereever he wants to go. That way the club gets money and Rooney goes where he wants to go.
Quite possible. Always thought the club might want to extend his contract and then sell him to put us in a better position to bargain.

Ridiculous. No player would do that, it'd just make his new club pay a higher fee, reduce his options and reduce his wages.

maybe United are looking at the repercussions of sacking him for gross misconduct.
Now that would be nice.
I thought about this. I was thinking perhaps United might look to sack him just they way they did with Keano to send out a message.

Sadly there is just too much money involved to even fathom it.

Yeah but you've always disliked him. No change there then.

The rest of us have had to go from adoring the bloke to despising him in an incredibly short space of time. Who's to say there couldn't be anothe mass volte face if he signs a long-term contract.

This whole thing is mental. Another twist would be hilarious.

So they decide to have talks with Rooney's reps informing them that they intend to sack him for gross misconduct?

They might have made a final offer. If he doesn't sign, let's say, until Monday, then he goes on the transfer list.

The guy wanted to sign for 10 years last March or summat.
Now he refuses to sign.

imo this is a huge Gill/Glazers feck up.

If the contract had been signed, if Rooney was unhappy we could have got close to 100 million.
The guy still has an agent. He would never have let contract talks be concluded quickly. And on Rooney's form, no one would pay anything close to 100m.

This is what I've been thinking. Maybe not to be sold to wherever he wants to go, though, as that would pretty much kill any negotiating power the club would have.

It could make sense for Rooney, as well. Allows him to repair the damage to some degree, at least with the club, if not the fans. Also, good for the ego to go for a big price instead of a cut rate price because he wants out. Maybe even structure the deal where he gets a certain percentage of the transfer fee.

BREAKING NEWS: United Release Rooney Statement
21/10/20100 Comment(s) "We are aware that there is intense public and media interest on the club at the moment, but there are no developments of note to report today."

United could spend £85million on David De Gea, Phi
The key part in that statement for me is this:

"I can confirm a number of meetings have taken place today, including with the player's representative. The outcome of those meetings will become clear in the near future"

Now that, to me, insinuates weve made some sort of last offer to him and his advisor's are considering it, the point is weve been in meetings all afternoon and yet nothing? nah if he was just leaving wed have said so in the statement, somethings going on.

I can't believe people believe this 'Sign a new contract to increase the fee' bullshit. Why on earth would Rooney do that? So he can go where he wants? Well he can do that anyway, all he has to do is threaten to sit out his contract unless he gets a move to X FC. Signing a new contract would just leave him subject to United's will, and increase his transfer fee, meaning he gets less money.

Would be sad if we bowed to his wishes and offered him the deal he wants.

A large part of me wants him to be out of this club by tomorrow.

Rooney's statement yesterday seemed to confirm that he won't listen to any contract offers. I think he has already a pre-contract with another club in his bag.

They might have made a final offer. If he doesn't sign, let's say, until Monday, then he goes on the transfer list.
But as Fergie said, they're not willing to listen to offers. If he's so adamant he wants to leave, it should have taken a minute. 'So, Stretford you bastard, this is our final offer'. 'oh, OK. Err, no'.

I'm sure he already knows we're willing to offer good terms, as there were talks some months ago, we don't need to tell him that again. He can go on the list right now. If he changes his mind, maybe after realising 99% of the people in football think he's an idiot who's got it wrong, he should be the one to make the effort, not us. We've done enough, too much in fact, for that prick.

I am proud of many of you. The supporters of United has demonstrated that we are not desperate and many of us want him gone, no matter how good of a player he is. That shows that many of us are supporting United for the right reasons. No player is bigger than the club.

If anything, it's probably not an extension, but simply a new contract to the end of 11/12, so that he can say until the summer but Man Utd don't have to lose big time with him doing the websters. I dunno, just throwing something out there, if there was another option or just a general agreement, it wouldn't take so long.

He's gonna stay now aint he?

feck me that'd be mental...I can just see it now. Rooney's suddenly seen what a shit storm this has caused. That the fans have turned on him, that the other managers are berating him, that he's fecked his legacy and image up...he's bricking it. He's going to come out grovelling, I can just see it!

if so, it'd be one of the most ridiculous things ever....

However, what could be happening is merely an attempt to get everyone back onside for the rest of the season ala Ronaldo. He maybe says something, or even signs something which allows us to get a really good deal for him at the end of the season and prevents the fans from going mental at him in the mean time. It's probably that to be fair.

His Reps may have called SAF and Gill and requested another meeting due to the media backlash he's been getting since he released his statement, and are now having 2nd thoughts about leaving!
