The right and the lawful are two different things.
Accepted. But perhaps FeedingSeagulls would like to accept that they oppose our current equality laws on the grounds they are too equal and are blind with respect to equality.

Basically you are redefining sexism so that it only counts as sexism if it is against women.
Not really - merely pointing out the vastly differing effects of negative stereotyping depending where in the power structure the group resides.

If you are all uncomfortable addressing this wrt sexism then examine the issues that had to be addressed in this regard for racism.

Correct.

Why would i want to become a football official? The odds are clearly stacked against me, with me having a cock n'all.

You should go for it though!!! Gurl Power Soccer Spice!
You've lost the plot mate.

I'd advise bowing out before you contemplate e-suicide.

The football league was formed in 1888, in all the time since then there have been 2 female officials in the top division, this clearly shows that women dominate the official positions on the pitch.

Too old! - having seen Charlton, Law and Best play. I also have to endure quite enough bigotry being expressed around me when supporting Utd anyway.

Keys resigned? I'm not surprised.

The media campaign has made things untenable for him and Gray. Whoever wanted them gone from inside the company has got their wish. The corporate world is a nasty place.

I wasn't doubting Massey's credentials - I was merely responding to your endorsement of positive discrimination, in response to Point Prunier's baseless rant.
When an institution has embraced embedded bigotry for decades the personnel is going to be highly infected by that - it will be difficult to even begin the necessary rebalancing that 'natural justice' unhindered by prejudice might have produced. So forcing a bigger minority representation via a 'helping hand' is entirely reasonable in general terms.

The problems of potentially disadvantaging a worthwhile candidate from the 'non-target' group (and these you will find debated in women's philosophy courses for example) are what make this otherwise worthwhile endeavour subject to debate.

Off the Beeb:Liverpool think they are 1-0 up... and so they should be. Raul Meireles sets Fernando Torres through and the Spaniard runs on to clip home, only to be pulled back the linesman's flag. Replays show, however, the Liverpool frontman was a good half a yard on when played in. Massive let-off for Fulham.

Doesn't sound too far removed from what Robert Mugabe subscribes to.

Their comments aren't said in jest, well at least that's not how they come across. I suspect blokes just feel a bit threatened by women encroaching on a male dominated sport....a game that most men find refuge in - away from women. I guess it's a kin to Lord's Members' pavilion and its gents only policy. But yeah Keys' and Gray's comments are cringeworthy....but their views are shared by the majority. You'll just have to get used to it.

Women and football eh. Kick it hard! Sorry....
That's the thing. Football has never been male dominated in the crowd.

There's also a difference between being in the crowd and having a television microphone.

Intelligent, independent-minded women?

If you really did understand me then your earlier post was singularly irrelevant.
Not necessarily all the time.
Some of them are a bunch of hysterical drama queens who are ready to use any excuse or situation to discharge their hatred towards men.
For the record, I'm not saying every feminists is like that but a huge number of them are and I know what I am talking about having encountered them or having seen men encounter them on many occasions.
I cringe at the sound of their voices and complaints

Men can be drama queens as well :)

James Richardson should replace Keys. A well respected presenter and a great surprise he has not been on TV since Setanta went bust.

No its not.

It needs people to apply common sense and be professional in their approach.

Why? Equality is a worthwhile goal and an excellent guide.

How we get there is the challenge.
Because our current quality laws protect against positive discrimination.

It would seem a step backwards to change the law to allow positive discrimination to occur. A move away from true equality if you will.

'Laddish' is an unfortunate synonym for 'misogynist, sexist, insensitive, derogatory and offensive' when used as it has been in this thread (possibly also 'stupid and prat-like'). The fact that such behaviour may be common in no way condones it IMO.

Once, racism was fairly normal.
Not something anyone will ever say about you.

I don't think you’re right on the wider equality discussion but to be honest in this thread it's pointless trying to debate it because posters mistake looking at the wider picture for defending Keys or Gray. If you only look at work place discrimination then you miss issues around family law where the bias is as bad the other way.

I strongly disagree - you merely highlight the worst and most blatant offences and suggest we can only address those.

Yet it is the 'milder' 'banter'-oriented thought processes that support and encourage the sexist attitudes hindering the full utilisation of both sexes to the best of their capabilities.

BTW - Gray definitely asserts 'as a truth' that women/(the lino) know nothing about the offside rule. Derogatory judgement based purely on gender - confirmed in 2 outbursts.
I didn't say they weren't wrong in their opinion.

But where do you draw the line. Women dig at men all the time.

This is something people seem to find hard to grasp in discussions of racism as well as sexism

No everything isn't equivalent. Stereotyping of black people is obviously going to be more loaded than stereotyping of white people... that's what happens when one group gets sold, worked, bred and slaughtered like animals for several hundred years, and the other doesn't.

Same goes for sexism

But Boots haven't made an advert mocking women or black people!

There's nothing positive about positive discrimination, it surely just breeds resentment.
I oppose positive discrimination because it seems totally contrary to it's stated aim - equality and the eradication of discrimination.

Discriminating in the name of equality if you will.

Basically to sum up.

Gray and Keys did a thing.

The media blew it up.

The media bayed for blood.

The media got their way again.
