Roonandez are going to be key here. If they put in a similar performance to practically all of their other ones together there's goals galore in this for us.

We need a win here. Not many more away games would be easier than this one. They are not quite in a relegation battle, which makes teams raise their game this time of the year.

hope berbatov is well and just rested.

Won't be too easy this. Had a really tight game the last time we were here. So important to win tonight and put some huge pressure on Arsenal tomorrow.

Would think its an injury. Even though Berbatov is clearly no longer first choice, are we really likely to get a better backup than him? Especially one that can play either of Rooney's or Hernandez's role - not quite in the same way no, but he can be the support striker receiving the ball from the midfield or he can be our goal getter like this season. I'm pretty sure even a backup player who can play both roles well enough to be playing for us is going to be expensive. A lot more than we'd get for Berbatov at this point and with us needing to sort the keeper and midfield before we worry about up front, would we have the money? Surely not.

The issue there would be the wages. But again, it would surely be hard to find a better stand-in than the league's top goalscorer and if we did sign someone of a similar quality they'd probably want fairly high wages if they are going to be seen as a backup. I'm sure the wages would come down a bit but how much, who knows?
Gotta be an injury. I was joking when I said people would jump to the 'bust up with Fergie' angle. But plenty have.

Makes no sense for Fergie to exile Berbatov. He needs him in the run-in. Can't expect Rooney and Hernandez to do it all themselves.

I just think we need to stay tight early on. I can see us scoring as the game goes on but I think Newcastle will be wary of their slow start against Arsenal and will come at us at 100 mph from the get go.

I reckon Fergie has lost faith in him. When we get to the part of the season, where we are in the big crunch matches Fergie is the sort of manager who likes his players to stand up and be counted. I don't think Fergie feels like he can trust him to perform when the pressure is really on. He dropped him to the bench at the tail end of the 2008-09 season, he watched him amble through the must win at Blackburn away last season, and I am guessing that he has come to the conclusion that Berbatov doesn't have the stomach for a real scrap. I may be way off the mark, but that's how I read it. Fergie is ruthless with players if he doesn't think they are up for it.
Fair point

It's possible he's dropped him today because he hardly seems his favourite player at the moment and his comments after the game on Saturday suggested he was a bit peeved at Berbatov for missing that chance. Wouldn't have thought it'd go any further than that though.

It is a good test for Enrique going up against Nani. Hope Nani can school him a couple of times.

I don't know why he should be peeved. He wasn't that marvellous a player himself ;)

United to take a 4-0 half time lead and actually win the match.

Rates himself highly though when he looks back.

Actually rates himself a bit now too - "Could have scored it myself" he said Saturday, wasn't it?

:)

Exactly. When his form relies so heavily on his confidence, why would Fergie purposefully leave him out of the team when we need all of our players to be available? It makes no sense.

It's got to be an injury.

That's where Rooney's dropping back comes into the picture.
Or Giggs goes inside and Rooney goes to the left. I would prefer the former though because of the passes he makes from there are freaking awesome.

Nice seeing Rooney and Chicarito enjoying it out there.

Do you think it will be Rooney on the left in a 4-5-1 so he can tease with Simpson?

doubt it, paying the price for the missed chances against Shitty I presume.

Rio feeling his calf. Nothing serious. Would have been rested anyway.

Berbatov 'not feeling too great' this afternoon.

Berba's probably seen a dead flower in the hotel garden or a dog almost hit by a car and is struggling to cope.
