The Galacticos were a top team even with out wining many things. He also helped win the league for Real Madrid after he was returned to the team after being wrongfully ostracized. Beating a very good Barca team to the title in the process.

No mate, its you who needs perspective. Becks never gave us anything less than 100%. In the end it was the playing style of the team that out grew him. Both he and SAF new Becks and rotation could never work, because of the level of player he was, added to the media cloud that surrounded his every move. Staying together was never going to work, so they went separate ways amicably. Its fans who tend to hold these silly grudges against him yet bigging up people who went and even played for our noisy neighbors. It's like it was such a crime for Becks to go else where and actually enjoy it.

How silly. How am I worshiping his every deed?

All I'm telling people like you to do is to stop being hypocrites. Don't use silly excuses to bring down Beckham while using those same things to defend other players who you happen to like more. I could care less if you like Beckham. I do care however that you are willing to disrespect a player who served our club faithfully to the end. Just because he looks pretty and has a pop star wife and revels in it. That is as petty as they come in terms of things to do. After all I know a legend at United who did far worse to United and had a bigger media frenzy surrounding him. But yet ya'll look at him as a god.
I didn't say you were worshipping his every deed - just don't expect everyone else to - this is my very point. You say I disrespect him and that is not the case at all. I just see both sides of him but because I don't openly worship him and everything about him you're getting all arsey about it. Like I said, get some perspective and stop making sweeping statements without backing it up and if you really think he never gave less than 100% there's little point in discussing this further because for nearly three of his last seasons he was mediocre. You're just coming over like a starry-eyed fanboy now because you're totally blind to his failings yet start silly accusations at anyone being objective

Should sign him back.

That won't happen but he has played fantastic today. His passing and crossing is still jaw droppingly good.

Such a shame he went to the MLS. Could have easily come to England and been compared with the likes of Scholes and Giggs.

I know I have given out about him in the past, but I do agree that he could easily still play top level football. Going to the MLS is a joke

Great player. Wonderful personality. A man to respect whatever he's doing. I will always remember Becks as a true red.

And people say he's not a United legend? I think the reaction he got today shows whatever individuals feel, to the masses he is and always will be.

Cracking today, I miss him and Scholes pinging 50 yard balls here there and everywhere.

Did Wibble really close that other thread 'as a WUM'?!

Is it a wind up to suggest Beckham could cope with a season of Premier League football? Seems ludicrous to suggest anything else to me, of course he could. Hell he'd still be the business for England on the right of midfield if selected

Agreed. Unfortunately some people still can't appreciate how good he was and still is.

He could certainly hack a season in the PL. But I hope some are not serious when they say he should come back to us.

That move to Spurs a year ago would have been ideal

I doubt you will find any Utd supporters who did not appreciate how good he was and what he did for the club.

You will find some (like me) who does believe he was a tad overrated though.

Still don't think that thread was a WUM, which is why I had it changed by Top so it could engage a more serious Prem based discussion but anyway, on a proper note.. whilst I don't think he should come back to United, would more than love to see him in the Prem.. featuring for a side like Spurs. He's a joy to watch. I think he's underrated, he was a big player for us and he's always possessed a great temperament. He never shies away from wanting the ball in pressure situations and trying to make things happen.

unlikely to happen but we all have the rights to dream...

he can still bend the ball, would be a very decent squad player to have....

Agree. I think he wasted what could have been decent years of his career in the MLS. If we look at the likes of Phizza, Gazza, Giggs, Scholes, one thing it does tell you that these days if you take care of yourself, as Becks himself did, you can stay at the top for a very long time. Becks went to MLS what, aged 31/32? He could very easily still be a key player in one of the better teams in the PL. Shame, what made him go there of all places?

i agree with your point but deep inside my heart, i am happy that he ended up in MLS rather than signing for spurs or newcastle or aston villa etc..

the move to la galaxy was a quick decision made by becks. he was out of the real starting line up at that time, and suddenly a lucrative offer from galaxy came in. and he was also out of the england squad then, so it was an easy decision for him.

real did try to convince him to stay after he signed a pre deal with galaxy, and i'm sure several italian clubs would be interested in him back then (ac milan eventually got him on loan on 2 occasions), which shows he is more than good enough to play for a big european club even at 30 something.

i'm sure there will be a lot of interested parties when his contract with galaxy expires, i hope he will not be an opponent from a PL side though..

He is out of contract in November...

I'd just like to pat myself on the back for saying he could still cope in the Prem and should have been called up to the WC squad the last 2 years. Well done me.

Bring him back as a coach so that we can fcukin work on set pieces. Some of his corners and crosses were amazing. Seeing his and Giggs 1-2 across the pitch was just stunning. His ability to drop the ball on somebodys toe time and time again is just amazing. (and to think we have scholes and rooney who can do that as well).
