No idea how this one will pan out. On paper this should be an easy win for United. In practice, if we move the ball as badly as we did against Spurs and if our midfield is so disjointed, it may be very tough to get the three points. I hope it doesn't turn out to be another Burnley (A). Saw nothing to suggest it won't be though. Lets hope we get lucky again, eh? 1-0 to the Man Utd..?

I think we'll start with the same line-up as todays match, but wouldn't mind at all if Herrera and maybe even Pereira start it. Why? Because Herrera is one of few that actually can score goals of our midfielders while Pereira can provide that extra creativity and those "killerpasses" which might be needed in a match like this.

Completely forgot how to choose a weekend team with CL midweek in mind. Jesus feels like we been out of CL for half a decade. Think we will largely go with the same team that played today

For CL Tuesday. I think we may start BFS and Herrera and maybe one of the youngsters Januzaj /pereira

If I were LVG I'd definitely set up for this one with an eye towards the CL match early the next week. A poor performance in that CL match would be much more detrimental to the season than underachieving in week 2 of the league.

    -----------------------De Gea------------------------
    -------------------------------------------------------
    --------------Smalling-------Rojo--------------------
    Valencia-----------------------------------------Blind
    --------------------------------------------------------
    -----------------Morgan----Bastian------------------
    Memphis---------------------------------------Young
    ----------------------Fellaini--------------------------
    --------------------------------------------------------
    ----------------------Rooney--------------------------

    1) Make De Gea play...I don't buy this garbage about him not being focused. He's a professional and has a reputation as one of the 2 or 3 best GK on the planet to uphold. Not to mention the fact that I'd take an unfocused De Gea over Romero any day of the week. I think LVG just benched him to show him that he's not above the team.

    2) Rest Carrick, rather have him fresh for CL

    3) Take Bastian, Young, Rooney off early if possible to keep them fresh for CL. Bring Mata, Herrera, Chicharito on and reshuffle to a 4-3-3 if need be.

To my shame I have predicted a 1-1. Just because I think we will be set up to not lose.
We had an abysmal away record last season, so that makes sense..I think we'll take a point considering the European game...We should really be going for it, Its Villa park where we have an unbelievable record ...by actually taking Villa on..even when we have gone several goals behind, we have always been able to pull something over the years there.

    1. doubt De Gea is going to play after what Van Gaal said about his frame of mind. Even if you dont buy it and its a all a sham, LVG is not gonnna go back on what he said.
    2. Rojo Probably not fit enough as yet. Half the team are still not 100 percent yet, he wasn't on the Bench that speaks volumes about how far off he is.
    3. Valencia ensured Darmian plays Friday with his short cameo
    4. Blind will be back in defense or maybe Evans comes in and plays CB. Shaw is fit and played well@ LB not sure why LVG will drop him
    5. Dont think hes fit enough and not sure LVG will start him against Villa away, much more likely to get 35 mins or so and may start in europe.
    6. Memphis on the wing, and right wing at that. lolz
    7. Cant play. Wish he could though would be useful. Though we could have him for CL.

This was the game last season where Villa were down to 10 men after 60 minutes, still looked the better team and almost won it right at the end. Benteke played well against us then.

Really hoping for some improvement to our away form.

Id like to see this. But De Gea probably won't play again. So swap him out for Romeo if you will...

    ----Smalling----Evans or Jones----Rojo----Blind

    -------Herrera-----Fellaini------Mata

Memphis and Depay are two separate players. Beast mode! Fellaini is still suspended iirc?

Smalling will fall over. So will either De Gea or Romeo or Rooney.

    Romero
    Darmian Smalling Rojo Shaw
    Carrick Schneiderlin
    Herrera
    Mata Rooney Young
Would like to see this line up. Herrera - Mata link up play is always brilliant. Bring on Memphis in the second half, test his pace up against some tiring legs and see if he can cause problems. In my opinion, Young can't be dropped, and I'd rather see Herrera in the midfield instead of Memphis for this one. That being said, I can see Blind in centre back and Memphis behind Rooney again.

    2-0 United.

I agree with everything including the score, but I'd change Young for Memphis and then it would be our strongest 11.

We're playing on Friday, which means we'll have more than 3 days to rest before the Brugges game. There's no fecking way we'd settle for a point just because we have a CL game next week.

Oh and there's absolutely no need to rest players. It's the second game of the fecking season!

    What I'd like:

    Romero
    Darmian - Smalling - Blind - Shaw
    Schneiderlin
    Mata - Herrera - Schweinsteiger - Depay
    Rooney

I hold no hope for such, however.

Memphis on the wing, Herrera in for Young, Rooney up front, and Bastian to start.
