Saw the presser. Rooney unlikely to be involved. Any truth to the transfer stories?
Can't really find anything but speculation at this point. Personally I doubt Mourinho would want to weaken the squad options at this stage of the season, would be especially weird given the records Rooney has just broken.

I think he'll probably go to China for megabucks, but only at the end of the season.

So far away I get up 4am to just watch Utd on TV
We will play with our full strength team. Absolutely no doubt about this.
No we won't. But remember Jose is managing a squad through a long unbeaten run and knows exactly what blend of youth & experience he needs to play in order to get a good result.

They are just as bad as Wigan who we comfortably beat.
Or as good as, & it took us 30 minutes or more to come to grips with them. Blackburn could be similar - and they're at home!

If a second string side consisting of full internationals and one or two promising players hoping to make the grade one day, can't beat Blackburn Rovers, then they don't have much of a future at the club. It's a good opportunity to use the full squad and give chances to those in need of games.
A bit harsh  but basically true. We've shown we've got the depth, desire and know-how to get past the Rovers with a "modified" line up and only minor injuries. Make no mistake we (Jose) will NOT allow any 11 he picks, to lose this game!

There's no way we're playing our full strength team. Jose has said that a few players will be rotated, so I'm expected a mixed team of nailed on starters and squad players. We want to win this game but we also need to use other players in the squad. It's a perfect time for around 4/5 of them to get some game time.
    This

If we go out against Blackburn, nobody will care. It's a nothing game compared to the bigger prizes at stake. A bad performance by a second string side will tell him more about his squad than a 4-0 win featuring Pogba and co.
I will care; most United supporters will care ... and Jose knows that! He will not make any changes he can't fix with a substitution or two before it was too late. It'll be a 4 -1 win for us and some players will underperform ... but most won't.

If Mourinho approached every game with the right mentality, we wouldn't be dragging our balls behind Chelsea.
Again a bit harsh, but yes, had Jose got his team selection right, quicker, we might have got a few more points.
But, just as importantly, if even a small percentage more chances been taken, or refs had been more fair to us, or if other teams keepers hadn't been so amazing aginst us etc. we wouldn't have been "dragging our balls ... etc."

I don't care if we lose on Sunday. It's irrelevant in the grand scheme of things.
It's not irrelevant; In the "Grand Scheme" of things, I really think Jose meant what he said when he claimed to want to win everything this year. The FA Cup is a big part of that Grand Scheme. He'll be some pissed if we lose against Blackburn & so will I!

Would we like to win and progress? Yes. Should we lose, is it a devastating blow? Nope.
You're right, I will not kill myself if we were to lose. :smirk:

Securing elite European football is paramount. The FA Cup is only going to get harder from the next round on anyway. I'd prefer to see guys like TFM plays instead of stagnating.
    Agreed

Been an unused sub the whole 2017, would be nice to see him on the pitch though. Might retire and become a coach only.
Thanks for the info. Considering his age and injury woes, I'm not that surprised to hear he hasn't featured regularly.

Man, if he became a coach, though! A new generation of players getting "Brwned" :D

I actually prefer The League Cup. It's been a more entertaining spectacle for almost a decade now.

The game being played during midweek helps. The FA Cup lost its gloss along the way.
Can't agree with this. The FA Cup has always been a prestigious trophy and we're the current holders.

7,500 united fans practically makes this a home game, they should've just given us the whole ground...

And if I'm not mistaken having the equal amount FA Cup titles with Arsenal?. Would be nice to be number one, even in this department.

Thankfully our manager doesn't share this rather pathetic point of view. Some more reassuring quotes from him this morning. This is one of the reasons why I love that he's at United. I honestly believe that if he stays for a long time, we will do the treble again, perhaps even the quad. Imagine doing a cup treble in his first season! That would be off the charts. I don't understand why any fan would turn their nose up at that??

He's a player/coach at the moment, so there's a big chance for that.

"It is good for us as there won't be any pressure on us, we can go out and enjoy it and from that you never know with the cup," said the defender.

"We've got to be positive and enjoy the game and take it to them a little bit.

"I reckon they'll have a few changes but they'll still have quality players that will want to show what they can do. They won't take their foot off the gas.

"For us, we are at home and I'm sure there'll be more there for this game than in previous games so I think that will help us. It'll be nice for the lads to play in front of a big crowd and hopefully we can draw inspiration from that.

"Everyone needs to enjoy this weekend because anything can happen. The big stuff starts next week."

Not gonna be easy as these types of games have a grudge eliment which the fans always get up for. The whole we were once competing for the league thing just adds spice to these northern games against the Mill town clubs.

The problem is at Utd is we seem to have sooo many sub plots to teams we play with ex managers, ex players etc..not to mention its most teams cup final when they play us....

Then again, I think they’re averaging a 9k attendance or something, and there’ll be a decent 7200-head away crowd. I think we’ll comfortably win that battle as well.

A treble will never happen again in England, let alone a quadruple. Stop sniffing glue. There's optimism and there's optimism!

We're an okay side. Good on our day. I'll be happy to win against Southampton and then slide into a European place.

It'll happen again at some point I'm sure, might take a couple of decades though.
Unless the cimpetition drops off and we return to the days of United going head to head with only one team (maybe two), it's just too difficult to win the lot due to most league games being a test. Our best ever side overall was the one that won The Premier League and Champions League in 2008. Even they couldn't achieve it. It would take having another once in a generation talent like Messi or Ronaldo to have any chance at winning a quadruple.

Cant agree with any of this, the League Cup has always been a secondary cup.
I feel like a lot of older fans turn down their nose at The League Cup because of nostalgia with regards to a once great FA Cup. That and a relentless bullshit "magic of the Cup" campaign from broadcasters has blinded some people. Look at how poor the competition has been for a few years now. The League Cup had been more entertaining for quite awhile.

Yeah maybe so but at least giving each competition your best shot rather than adopting your defeatist and frankly tiresome attitude will put us in with a shout each season. Like I said, we're already well placed for a cup treble this season already. If not for those draws, we would've been on for the league as well.

The League Cup is beyond easy to win, that's the problem there.

To get to the final we have beaten Northampton, City's reserves, West Ham & Hull. Just 4 games.
And The FA Cup hasn't been a breeze? Haha. Three Championdhip sides so far.

Three Premier League teams is not comparable. Hull pushed us all the way.

You have a lovely way of taking digs at people in a polite manner. I'm a realist.

If my aunty had balls, she'd be my uncle.

We have not shown any signs of mounting an assault on every front. We lost twice in our EL group and have had favourable draws in The FA Cup. We even lost the 2nd leg away to Hull. Add those draws on top of it and you do not have a quadruple side in the works.

A lot of people here suggesting we rotate some players and bring in the likes of Young and Schweinsteiger.

I'm not against rotation however I bet there will be a lot of posters who would be saying Young should be nowhere near this team if we were to lose.

This isn't against any individual poster but I just find hindsight can be funny at times.

Anyway back to the game, I think we should definitely look to give Zlatan and Pogba a rest as they are playing so many matches at the moment

It could be tight and scrappy with United still ending on top: 1-2 to me.

José saying it won't make too many changes and he wants to respect the FA Cup. To be fair, we can do this here because I think the mega rest for players will come at St. Etienne on Wednesday. That's when we can pretty much rest almost the entire XI that will face Southampton in the League Cup Final. I reckon Dave comes back in, probably the same back four to keep it consistent (will play the Cup Final too), with Pogba, Mata, and maybe one other outfield player rested.

    Blackburn:

    de Gea
    Valencia Smalling Bailly Blind
    Herrera Carrick Fellaini
    Rashford Ibrahimovic Martial

    St. Etienne:

    Romero
    Darmian Smalling Rojo Shaw
    Schweinsteiger
    Fellaini Pogba
    Mkhitaryan Rashford Rooney

Would be hoping for something like this for both games, with the intention of playing: de Gea; Valencia, Smalling, Bailly, Blind; Herrera, Pogba, Carrick/Mata, Mkhitaryan, Martial, Ibrahimovic against Southampton in the Final. Obviously going to have to wait and see what the deal is with Jones, Shaw, Carrick, Mkhitaryan and Rooney in the next Presser first, but hopefully they can all get some time on the pitch over the next two games.

If we go out against Blackburn, nobody will care. It's a nothing game compared to the bigger prizes at stake. A bad performance by a second string side will tell him more about his squad than a 4-0 win featuring Pogba and co.

Who said I didn't want a strong team on Wednesday? I've already said take of two key players after 45 mins. 6 regulars will be enough to get the job done. Any goal scored by us kills the tie.

If Mourinho approached every game with the right mentality, we wouldn't be dragging our balls behind Chelsea. I don't care if we lose on Sunday. It's irrelevant in the grand scheme of things.
I would stop short of saying I don't care if we lose tomorrow but I certainly agree with the bolded bit and your take on the personnel we should need to get the job done.

Almost any combination of our players playing in their correct positions should be too much for Blackburn, especially with them having a few training sessions with this game in mind in a week where Jose has paid particular attention to our attitude in the dressing room and the run-up to games. Anyone still fecking around when they should be working has been strongly reminded about Jose's standards, so we should be fully focused on the job at hand.

    Sorry, I meant normal people.
I thought you were just a bit of a poor poster, but you're definitely slipping into WUM mode now.

I think a lot of people would be annoyed if we went out to Blackburn, especially if we've rotated stupidly, and then play the full first team for a midweeker we're already 3-0 up for!

We've already seen how good ASSE can be. It's important that we see out the 1st half.

Ideally, you should be banned for accusing someone of being a WUM. I won't hold my breath though.

Of course a loss would hurt tomorrow simply because it's a favourable draw to reach the quarter finals.
What if we take it easy and lose then Blackburn host Leicester for a place in the semi final. It would be a footballing sin.
