I LOVE Friday night football, though IMO, this needs to be reserved for a big match.
I still remember "that" Friday night game when Jose was in charge for his first match at OT. And this coincided with Paul Pogba's first appearance for MUFC, as the most expensive player in the World. I think it was against Southampton and the atmosphere, under the spotlights, was electric. Pogba that day, was magnificent and we won 2-0 (I think).

Just start Alexis, Martial and Mata please and watch the magic happen
Lukaku's absence has certainly made things interesting in our attacking third.
All of a sudden we have 3-4 spaces up for grabs, giving us the possibility of Sanchez, Martial, Rashford, Mata (in the front 3 spaces) and maybe Lingard just behind them.
People do need to consider that Mata was below average in his last game for us, which meant he never got to play in the next match.

Yep, Pogba was good, but we weren't as a team. Remember Saints carving us apart and only losing because they were wasteful in finishing while we were clinical. Shades of things to come that season for sure.

Brighton should be a gimme, but as we have a cushion for second place, I am pretty relaxed. Still, try to win and pull away from Spurs and Liverpool further.

Mata and Alexis work well together and have a good understanding.
    I'd do a 433:
Could swap Martial and Alexis around.

    Dave
    Valencia Smalling Lindelof Young
    Herrera Matic Pogba
    Mata Sanchez Martial

I've wanted to see this team all season and now is the prime opportunity given Lukaku's injury.

    Sanchez Martial Rashford
    Matic Pogba Herrera
    Young Smalling Bailly Valencia
    Daffid

Unleash them and let the battering of Brighton commence.

Imagine if we batter them 4/5 nil without Lukaku. And it all suddenly clicks with Alexis and Martial running riot upfront and on the left. Would definitely give something for Jose to think about. Lukaku as good as he's been this season should not be untouchable. If the team perform really well without him then he should be made to earn his spot again. Injuries and Suspension open up opportunities for others.

Lukaku's in Belgium this morning so looks like he's definitely out for this.

Alexis, Martial and Mata as a front three please, with Matic-Herrera-Pogba behind.

If Lukaku is still out I reckon Fellaini will start, unfortunately. It's been a while since Mata got a start too so wouldn't be surprised to see him included.

    de Gea
    Valencia Smalling Lindelof Young
    Fellaini Matic Pogba
    Mata Rashford Sanchez
As always, I'd prefer to see players like Shaw, Herrera and Martial though.

If Lukaku is out we should play Rashford instead.

    DDG
    Valencia - Smalling - Bailly - Shaw
    Herrera - Matic - Pogba
    Alexis - Rashford - Martial

That's not how I remember it.
Saints were doing what LVG did the previous season. Do a lot of side/back passing. When they moved into the final third, then do nothing. The scoreline was 2-0, which was as true reflection of how the game played out.
MUFC were incisive and Pogba in particular was taking the ball from defence to attack and doing it better than any other player we'd had for several years.
I also remember the commentators were buzzing. In the studio they had the lady from Countdown. It really was a like a big budget bonanza, being unveiled.

Back to the Brighton game: just one day to go (feels weird because it's on Friday night), but it'll be refreshing to see how we play without a target man.

    I'm expecting something like this:

    De Gea
    Valencia Smalling Lindelof Young
    Matic
    Herrera Pogba
    Mata Rashford Sanchez
    But I'd rather see:

    De Gea
    Valencia Smalling Lindelof Young
    Matic
    Herrera Pogba
    Lingard Martial Rashford

No chance of getting home from work in time to see the first half -- and likely to be stuck at work long after the final whistle next Thursday grrrrrr

No Lukaku so it's a good time to see Sanchez up top with Rashford and Lingard on the wings. Time to give Matic a break for at least a half, so I expect Fellaini to start

I think he might switch the forwards up due to Lukaku's injury and I'm guessing his beloved will get a start in midfield.

I think it is very pointless to play Mata here, as much as I love the guy, he should be used as a squad player if he stays at United, and maybe it might be nice to get into form both Rashford and Martial befroe the FA cup final, when Lingard is seemingly out of form playing from the wing..

Sorry just seen no Lukaku upfront and Rashford's there, we should try all three together and maybe even lingard to be palyed in his position, and Fellaini ahead of Herrera that's a fecking joke in a midfield three with both Pogba and Matic from the start, let's try to play some football through the middle and on the ground and not hoof like Stoke from the off...

exactly why Fellaini should not get a new deal he will always be in some people's minds for selection and we will try to play with Championship tactics... Herrera- Matic - Pogba, that is quite surely the midfield three for the final, let them gel for the final and use Fellaini as B option for the last few times in his hopefully ending career.

Jose saying world cup players need to play suggests Rojo is going to feature soon. Hopefully not at left back ahead of shaw.

    de gea

    young smalling bailly shaw
    matic herrera
    pogba
    rashford sanchez martial

Agree with this, though choice 2 would be Martial striker and Sanchez left. Rashford should absolutely not be the striker, he can't play the role.
Yeah, i was also torn between these two choices. But Rashford is more suited to RW than either of Martial & Sanchez; that's for sure.

I agree with you in general, I was just making a guess at the team I think will be selected, rather than what I'd personally like to see.

Just read that as well. Probably means Smalling and Rojo start as they are not picked for their countries yet. Hopefully we also see Martial get a start as well.

When was the last time we won a game 1-0?
    Genuine question. ;)
    against the same opposition? :)

Edit: it was against Burnley on Jan 20th. But we also beat Bournemouth 1-0 after the Brighton game. So, all teams that start with a "B".
