We'll be facing a Brighton side coming off of two wins, high on confidence and playing at home. We cant have physical passengers especially at the heart of the team. We also have to make sure Maguire is covered against pace in all directions. Bruno should also play closer to his midfield partners so we can get a consistent and varied supply to our technicians and runners in attack.

    De Gea
    AWB Bailly Maguire Shaw
    Pogba Fred
    Bruno
    Mason Martial Marcus

    Whats the reasoning for Rashford?

True, but i think their should be some repercussions for a really shit performance, so dropping a few of our worst performers seems like a sensible thing to do for me.
I don’t think penalising Lindelof, Pogba, Bruno, Rashford, Martial etc is the way to go. Many of the players that failed last game, were the given starting xi when we played our best football at the second half of the last season. Better to build on that and trust them to improve.

We rely on them as in they are our best players.

It's very simple, i have 0 problem with any player being dropped but that should be consistent, instead of just 1 player. Pogba was awful against Palace, there is no denying that but we can't drop players based on single performances, especially with 0 preparation and player who just recovered from Covid.

Rashford was as worse, Martial too. We shouldn't be dropping them. Our team as a whole is inconsistent.
It's not based on one game, Pogba has been poor for a while, as has Rashford... if you were to take them out of the starting line-up I doubt they could really complain.

Rashford we don't really have much competition for his place, but Pogba? We have DvB who could come straight in for him, or Fred.

Honestly I would say Pogba was our 2nd worst player after Lindelof on Saturday, but that's neither here nor there.

Four obvious changes: AWB, Bailly, Matic and Greenwood come in. TFM, Lindelof, Scott and James go out. Not sure why I’m not dropping Pogba, Bruno or Maguire but I suppose it’s the hope that kills you in the end. (And the lack of actual players in the squad)

I would agree with Paul not playing the next game or two until he fully recovers from Corona but if you are talking about dropping him long term over performances or because you think someone else will do better you are having a laugh.

Most likely he will sit out the next game either way.

Yeah, was he the one who came back after injury when we drew with them in the cup final? I remember the united crowd singing what a difference you make and we thumped them 4-1.
    4-0

The only match I can remember where two songs were going simultaneously for 30+ minutes in the same section.

"Stevie Foster, what a difference you have made" and

"Happy Birthday Matt Busby, happy birthday to you"

I'd love to see this but sadly we won't. I don't think Ole is ambitious enough to bench Rashford and switch up our attack. Nor will be bench DDG.

Effectively a diamond with our strikers pushed wider and Fernandes pushed up? I like it but Ole will also have to think of the effects it will have on Lindelof mentally, I agree he hasn't been good enough but what happens when Bailly is injured and we are forced to use Lindelof but now with less confidence? I don't have that faith that Bailly will stay fit despite him being the better player, it will never happen but I'd like Smalling to get minutes at the end of the game and re-introduce him if he isn't leaving.

Tough game, Brighton have started decent this season and will feel like they have a chance after our game last week but hopefully that was a wake up call and the Luton result at least gave us some confidence and something to be upbeat about.

I shall go for a hard fought and scrapped 2-1 win.

Would of loved to have been there. Another great story from the past. Hopefully not long before the supporters can sing again.

That must've been an expensive week, two 600 mile round-trips to London on the Friday night and then on Thursday, plus a 200 mile round-trip to Manchester on the Tuesday to get the replay ticket from Old Trafford with me voucher sheet - worth every penny though, happy times.

Lindeløf will play. He has proven over time he's better than Bailly.

TFM should be out, AWB in. Greenwood in for James

Like to say I think we'll win, but I said that last week. My guess is we'll start slow, give them a soft goal and then not be able to step things up

If James played in his best position(LW) then we may be able to make a proper assessment out him and Rashford on the left. Neither is playing to their best right now.

The only thing in Rash's favour is that he is only just regaining some fitness after injury. As for James, I wish Ole would give him a start out left

Lidelhof is a defensive liability time and time again especially with another slow CB like Maguire next to him. If he had a pacey CB alongside you could see a better player. Bailly is fast and stronger but prone to poor decision making in challenges. He also has a knack of picking up freakish injuries.

His and Bailly's failings at CB simply reflect the poor recruitment and scouting of the club in general.

Someone has already mentioned this, but low crosses into our box are costing us. I wonder how many goals we have conceded due to them, it’s getting ridiculous and nothing is being done.

To be fair this was more than two years and how you play has shifted significantly since then. Also it looks like Young was out of position and Bailly let himself be pulled out of the centre when March put that cross in, AWB might be a tad better at defending!

David de Gea sends United message ahead of Brighton fixture
The United goalkeeper wants to see his side bounce back from opening day defeat tomorrow.
“It’s true the first game wasn’t the best game for us,” he told MUTV. It was a strange time after last season not having enough time to rest properly but it’s the same for all teams.
“It’s time to start winning games. Last season we finished really, really strong so we need to try to play as we did in the last 10 games of last season. This is the way we need to be and playing our best football.”

    Squad fitness improving
“Yeah of course we’re a week further down the line, it’s been a good week, some players have been training well and the work on the training ground has been good. Played well against Luton, we’re further down the line like other teams, we needed to be further down the line because last week was disappointing.”

Challenges of facing same team twice in a row
“It happened to us last year with Wolves as well, we have to take one game at a time, Premier League first and all our focus is on that one, we had a bad start last week, wanna kick on and play a better game, we played them after the restart, good memories from that game and hopefully we can show something like (that).”

    Need to sign a centre-back?
“I think last season proved to us how we can defend at our best, last week wasn’t fantastic, we conceded sloppy goals but I think our defensive record from last season with Eric and Harry how good a partnership they were, Eric is fit again, a big big plus and looking forward to seeing him develop and play more games. We’ve been waiting him to be fit and play more regularly.”

    Fringe players need to go?
“You know, players are happy when they win well and win games, I am too, it’s not my job to keep them happy, it’s to pick players to get results, and up to them to be fit and be ready when called upon.”
