The positivity around here has been so high, I'm afraid what happens (here) if we come away with anything but a win
We're positive about a lot of things, like being able to finally watch the likes of Greenwood, Gomes and Chong in the FA Cup.

Any scrappy win will completely change the atmosphere around the club and we'll go on a winning streak until the Tottenham game. If we lose or draw but play Bailly, Dalot, Shaw, Pereira, Fred, Pogba, Martial and our other biggest talents without benching them for the next thirty games after a mistake, I'd be happy too.

You're jumping to the FA Cup, why? Talking about just the premier league match.

My expectations are tempered. Ole has less than a week to prepare one of the most disjointed sides I have ever seen

I bet this is a draw. I have a feeling this new era is going to be a very rocky ride too. If Jose Mourinho can’t get these lads to play for him I’m not sure ole and mike phelan will be able to either. Another few bad results and the toxic feeling around the squad comes right back. I hope I’m totally wrong and ole is a roaring success as I love him, it’s just I don’t think this squad is balanced or motivated enough to turn our fortunes around whoever is in charge. I hope we at least play better stuff going forward.

    Let's see...
    • Wants positive attacking football
    • Doesn't want to get sacked for a pay-out
    • Doesn't drag the club through the mud on a daily basis
    • Has worked with many of the players at youth level
    • No parking the bus against small teams at Old Trafford
    • No throwing players under the bus in every interview
    • No players benched indefinitely for making a mistake
    • No invincibles a la Matic/Lukaku
    • No more 'top6 is our level'
That's a couple of reasons I could think of straight away..

For me the result is not important in this game , yes I want to see a win and a good win , but seeing the players play well and with some conviction is more important.
I want to see some fight from the team, something I have not seen for a while now.
I will be honest , with the time Ole has , not expecting a massive improvement, but for the first time in a few games I am looking forward to a United game.

To be honest I'll be a bit pissed if suddenly after one week they're able to play with effort and conviction as it just confirms they haven't been playing for the badge but holding back out of spite.

That shit might happen at a small club but if any player has been doing that here they deserve to be out of the door

It has been hell waiting for this game since Jose's sacking. Saturday can't come soon enough.

It is a great chance to get some positive momentum going before the busy festival period. A positive start will hold us in good stead for the remaining three fixtures, and the rest of the season. Couple of early losses will return the gloom that has hovered over us since the pre-season.

At this moment I am not looking for swashbuckling or attacking football. A professional outing would be pleasing to me. Anything more will be a bonus.

    My XI:

    De Gea
    Dalot Bailly Lindelof Shaw
    Herrera Pobga
    Lingard Mata Rashford
    Martial

I think Ole / Mickey Phelan will go for a bit pace and a bit of experience in this first game. I don't believe he will be throwing in Dalot and Shaw just yet

    DDG
    Young--------Bailly --------- Smalling -------- Shaw
    Matic

    Herrera-------------Pogba

    Lingard ----------- Lukaku -------- Martial

I’m so excited for this game, it’s probably the first game I’ve looked forward to this season.

    Cheers.

By the sounds of it, it'll be something like this:

    de Gea
    Young Bailly Lindelof Shaw
    Herrera Matic Pogba
    Lingard Lukaku Rashford
    ---
Romero; Valencia, Jones; Fred, Fellaini, Mata; Martial

If Smalling is fit, I would like to think he'd start over Bailly or be on the bench instead of Jones at least, depending how close to 100% he is. I want the Smalling/Lindelof partnership to be given more games. I'd also like to see Dalot just given the rest of the season at RB and Shaw LB, but players like Valencia & Young will be given games due to their experience, so I wouldn't be surprised to see at least one of them here. I think it's about time Matic was dropped for Fred, with Herrera deepest, but again a first away game and Matic having that position nailed under Jose is probably what will happen at least for this match. The front three I am fine with, due to Martial being injured recently I'd rather he came off the bench here then starts the next two at Old Trafford.

Shocked myself by going for a 2-0 United win! To be fair, we should beat this lot with Ole in charge, Jose in charge or me in charge. Not doing so, we may as well all be supporting FC United

that's the defence I've been shouting for - except going for 10 men instead of Young!

I'm not sure of the rules, but would Greenwood be able to play in both FA youth cup AND FA cup?

You could very well be right, the toxicness (is that a word?) may still be lingering around the squad, but hopefully would dissipate once Ole gets onto the training ground. I think each player will improve in the short term, but it is primarily playing, and looking like a team that counts in the long run, that is what I'm hoping for over the coming weeks/months. We haven't looked like a TEAM for quite a while now, and I mean several seasons.

If players really were strangled by the tactics Mourinho deployed, they should feel free directly and show much more joy on the pitch.

Interesting to see what will happen.

Against a team like Cardiff, I hope we get some football in the starting line up.

    De Gea.
    Dalot, lindelof, bailly, Shaw
    Fred/Herrera, Pereira, Pogba
    Mata, Martial, Rashford

That would do it for me.

Ah feck. Just realised I'm missing this match. Agreed to go to a christening while Mourinho was still in charge.

Same right here, I actually cannot wait for the weekend. Its been some time since I've been able to say that, probably 12 months. Regardless of the result, if we start with less than 7/8 defenders/DM's i'll be a happy boy.

When you see our team under the context of a new manager, you can see that we are certainly short a couple of key players. A centre half and a ride sided attacker would change the look of us completely.

I think rather than going go away games vs teams like Cardiff and picking players to beat them at their game a faster moving trio of good ball players would do nicely to beat them at what we should be better at. Give Fred a chance I think, despite erratic form.

Pogba has shown a few times he doesn’t have the stomach for games where you might have to knuckle down and dig in. Lingard is often slated but if people’s hopes that there’ll be some transformative moment occur, he is actually a good player for an attacking team and counter attacking team in my opinion,

A few people have left Pogba out of their lineups.

There's NO WAY he's not gonna start (barring injury)

It's almost certain Pogba will start on Saturday given how highly OGS rates him.

This is the team I'd like to see for Cardiff:

    --------------DDG------------

    -Dalot--Smalling--Bailly--Shaw-

    ------------Gomes-------------

    --------Fred-----Pogba(C)--------

    --Lingard-------------Martial---

    -----Rashford or Greenwood-----

Subs: Romero, Greenwood, Matic, Lingard, Chong, Lukaku, Sanchez

Probably a little too adventurous considering it is Ole's first game in charge, but I'd like to see it deployed at some point this season. Gomes looks particularly exciting, as does Greenwood.

    What I expect to see:

    --------------DDG--------------

    -Young--Smalling--Bailly--Shaw--

    ------------Herrera-------------

    --------Matic-----Pogba(C)-----

    --Lingard-------------Sanchez--

    -----------Lukaku--------------

Im hoping solskjaer will have us creating chances. Part of me would prefer

    Lingard martial rashford.

But ya ive seen pogbs utterly bullied by some serious second rate midfielders. Even mark bloody noble pocketed him a couple of seasons ago.
