I know some are clamouring for Chong but surely this isn't the game to throw him into? Would rather see Rashford, Lukaku + Sanchez/Mata for a game of this magnitude. Maybe the split Striker system with Rashford and Lukaku wide and A.N. Other false nine, although not chelsea will leave as much space as spurs did?

I would go with 3 at the back for this if I was Ole, but I can't see it.

Bit worried about this game. Stamford Bridge has been a troublesome place for us.

We don't often win at Stamford Bridge, so it's about time we changed that
Oh please, we never win at SB, we miss Martial and Lingard, Hazard allways turns up against us, and Poch is not our manager.

Other than that, I agree with you. It is time to win there. Don't care how, just win.

It's incredibly annoying - I'm playing football until 7:40, so i'll probably be watching on a half hour delay.

I wonder if the BBC are preempting ET + penalties and don't want it going on too late?
Possibly. I also thought they might want to ensure adequate time for analysis and ?the draw prior to the news at 10.

Personally, I think Pereira is going to be the one to miss out tonight (along with Grant). I can't decide who will miss out of the front line, but I do think Chong will make the bench. Probably something like this:

    de Gea
    Dalot Smalling Lindelof Shaw
    Matic
    Herrera Pogba
    Mata
    Lukaku Rashford
    ---
Romero; Young, Bailly; McTominay, Fred; Chong, Sanchez

Gone for 1-1 with Chelsea nicking it in extra time mostly due to our abysmal record at the Bridge.

Not that bothered with the result but if Ole can show he will not cower like two other managers before him in these type of games, he will get many supporter's vote.

Stop Hazard and Chelsea are pretty toothless. The problem is Hazard always has a good game v United  Not sure Ole will go down the Herrera man marking route either.

We're due a win at the Bridge come on lads! Chelsea are playing pants and they are there for the taking. Yes we have injuries but Lukaku can hurt them and we still have Rashford.

Given our injuries, I can't see us winning this unless the very poor version of chelsea turns up... 2-0 or 2-1 to them., I reckon

Surprised that more than half of this forum is going for us to win. Chelsea in spite of their trouble is still a top team and we haven't beaten them at Stamford Bridge for 7 years. I just can't see us beating Chelsea away especially with Lingard and Martial out.

Ole's trick in the big games has been to leave two players very high up the pitch. Hope he shows some variation.

Apart from his debut, he's been decent in all the other games. His 5 yard movement will cause us problems.

The draw is prior to the game and the BBC are notorious for minimum analysis on these Monday games as they don't like it interfering with the news or their schedule.

Which is brilliant if you ask me as their pundits are terrible.

    ————Matic————
    Herrera———Pogba
    ————Sanchez———
    Lukaku————Rashford

I feel like this is the best lineup we can put out. Pace, energy, strength and skills.

    Anyone?
I like it for the diamond formation

Lukaku has to have strict instructions to pull put right, don't want to see him starting down the centre that often

I'm thinking De Gea might be starting with him travelling. For the Reading game he wasn't in the squad.

Choice between Young/Dalot and Bailly/Smalling could go either way.

Don't think I'd trust Sanchez with a man-marking job to be honest
    Because...?

Sanchez isn’t showing a lot of quality but he has maintained an ability and willingness to work and press within the team’s shape. His reaction upon losing possession has been the most consistently positive feature of his time here. Placing him centrally, and matching him up against a sitting midfielder who is not going to cover the same ground as a typical full back will, gives him a very realistic chance of excelling in his defensive tasks.

Your idea of man-marking must be different from mine. Being tasked with marking an opponent happens to basically all our players all the time. It doesn’t stop Pogba from being creative because it’s a completely different phase of play - he can’t be creative when we’re defending, because we don’t have the ball.

Also, Jorginho is struggling. We’re not talking about Pirlo or Fabregas, or a player like de Jong who’s going to storm forward with the ball at his feet. How we deal with Hazard, however, may well decide the game.

    Where are you playing Mata?

If its on the wing, then we may as well.play the tea lady. In this situation, Chong isn't a risk in comparison playing to Mata, who had proven to be poor in that position

I'd give a good young player a chance on the right wing over dross like Mata any day.

I wonder what his role is for United's first team. He's had a better season than Chong, but Chong gets picked over him. This implies that Chong is a better fit for Ole's system in the eyes of Ole. If it's due to size, I struggle to think what changes in the future as Chong is very skinny right now and him getting stronger only helps his case, because Gomes isn't going to grow any taller.

Not like I'm upset if that's the case. I prefer to develop Gomes as a midfielder.
I remember if another thread you wanted to see him and Pogba as #8's ahead of a DM, right? Ole did mentioned him as one of his forward options in the presser but perhaps he is thinking the same as well and doesn't want to throw him in out of position.

This is our bogey ground and I’m not that 100% confident. We always have a tendency to struggle at the Bridge.

Hope we do it but it’s not the end of the world if we don’t.

I can’t see Ole keeping his bottle of ketchup on the bench for this unfortunately

honestly don't care about this match. could make the argument a win here continues the Chelsea slide which will be help come the game in April, and on the flip side we could rest players for the much more important Liverpool game at the weekend at not show them our cards. Personally I would prefer to rest starters so everyone is as close to 100% for Pool.

This is exactly how I feel. Our main focus should be on consolidating fourth, and everything else should come second.
