Would rather start Elanga than Ronaldo.

Should've really got Gakpo as well.

On form, but not the tactics we've been playing lately:

    -----Sancho----------Bruno--------------Antony---
    -----------------Eriksen-McTominay------------
    Shaw-Malacia-Martinez-Varane-Dalot
    -------------------------De Gea-----------------------

Not looking forward to this at all. Could be a long afternoon.

I think our best plan is to do ole tactics.

We can beat them if Rashford is fit, if not our chances are slim. Elanga has pace but not much more. Would still play him over Ronaldo.

If neither Rashford or Martial are fit, I'd be tempted to start Elanga at centre forward. Basically a like for like replacement for what Rashford gave us against Arsenal. Hopefully with the same result.

Don't think Martial is. Rashford I hope so, we will find out in the presser to be sure.
If both our out I dont think we should start with Ronaldo. That would be bad, really bad.

Wonder if ETH will option for both Casemiro and McTominay in the middle or will stick with McT, Eriksen, Bruno combination.

I don't think Elanga offers much at all down the middle. Id rather see him work hard on the wide areas if he has to play

You're most probably right. I'm just quite reluctant to start Ronaldo and don't want to disrupt our midfield three by playing one of Eriksen or Bruno as a false 9. Perhaps Sancho at false 9? Although he doesn't have the physicality for it.

    Maybe Antony upfront?

I've just seen the replay. Antony my man of the match, Martinez had Haaland in his pocket, Rashford back to his best. I cheered. I shouted. I fist pumped the air. I cried. I stood and cheered.

I think a more tidy midfield of Casemiro , Eriksen and McT is needed. Bruno and Fred give away too much ball. Also, Ronaldo offers nothing in these games, no pace to play on the break and no hold up play to get us up the field. If we start him we will lose. City settle even when they are being pressed never mind if we were to play Ronaldo. The net effect would be thier centre halves playing a CMs and their midfield all living on the edge of our box. We need some kind of threat to keep their back line occupied.

If Martial and Rashford are both unavailable I’d start Elanga ahead of Ronaldo. I’d have considered starting him for this game anyway, but with the absences, I’d look to play him for sure.
Probably Bruno as false 9. He is a very good finisher, and in this type of game I would trust more Eriksen as No. 10 considering that he is far less wasteful with the ball compared to Bruno.

A double pivot of McTominay and Casemiro in midfield, with Sancho and Antony in the wings.

This. I don’t rate Elanga but I do think his pace is useful against high lines. It’s critical that we have some sort of pace to offer a threat on the counter.

If Rashford or martial is fit, it’s an absolute must they play striker. If neither are fit then I’d rather see Elanga as striker and Sancho and Antony on the wings. I don’t think Elanga is ideal at striker but he’d be more suited than Sancho or Antony.

If we play Ronaldo, then I fear for us as Ronaldo neither has pace nor is he great at hold up and linking others around him.

I don’t fancy Bruno as a false 9 really. I think we’ve played him there once or twice and he was not good at all. He has no outstanding quality in that role, whereas for all of Elanga’s deficiencies - he at least does.

Massively dwindling in hope with Martial and Rashford both out and Ronaldo auto-starting. He absolutely stunk vs Spain for Portugal just last week.

I agree. In my opinion it's the best way to go. Although it obviously isn't ideal. I'd be surprised if Ronaldo didn't start up top though.

Both Rashford and Martial have to start. This City team needs to be occupied going the other way. I’m convinced we can beat these. If Rashford and Martial both play, I’d even back United on a -1 bet.

Great to hear Rashford and Martial are fit. If they're fit enough to start, I'd leave Antony on the bench and go Sancho, rashford and Martial for the front 3.

Who’d you drop out of Sancho or Antony?

Could do with Antony playing and keeping Cancelo occupied
I'd start Sancho over Antony for this one. If I were the manager there would also be some temptation to start a three of Rashford, Martial and Elanga for this one.

Looking forward to seeing United play again, even though I am expecting a 3-0 demolition. Anything beats the international break.
