It's possible Sanchez plays in the middle now though, in which case, it would be Iwobi I think?
But we don't have a choice, Valencia is not around so it's literally just Darmian or maybe TFM as a last resort.

It's best to have players like Carrick or Herrera help cover against Sanchez and Ozil.
Ah yes true - although he may well drift out wide too, and if he doesn't I still don't have faith in Darmein at RB. That Arsenal fixture really affected him!

Agree on Carrick and Herrera both starting. I think Pogba will be our number 10.

Why am I confident? We haven't been in great form and Arsenal have been flying lately, yet in my mind I just don't see us losing to them. I have to say though I've watched a few of their games and even if they've won, I've yet to be properly impressed with any of their performances like I've been with Liverpool, City, Spurs and Chelsea, who have all put in some really impressive performances. Arsenal on the other hand still look miles away from the title despite what their fans think.

Mourinho's record against Wenger combined with Arsenal's record at Old Trafford gives United the edge. Mourinho knows how to frustrate Wenger's teams and more often than not, he knows how to beat them.

It wouldn't surprise me if United won 2-1 or 3-2. Ibrahimovic is a big miss though.

Tough one to pick with big Z being banned.

I like to pick (in my head) our squad on merit, if you're playing well you deserve to keep your position. Rooney I thought looked motivated against Swansea, he deserves to start this game.
Problem for me is if you play him on the LW he is going to struggle tracking Bellerin, and he certainly won't run passed him. If you play him as a striker will his touch/finishing let us down?

He's got a good record against Arsenal so I think it's worth giving him the start.

Martial and Mata on the wings for me. Mata is our most productive player and in good form, Martial can keep Bellerin in check and offer us a good outlet.

3 man midfield with Carrick, Pogba and Herrera is our best combination, and should be able to handle their midfield 3 better.

Jones and Rojo should keep their CB spots, both did well against Swansea, although Giroud/Sanchez will be a much tougher combination.

Arsenal have been much better in recent times at OT, I expect this to be a tough game. If we score first I can see us taking them apart.

Arsenal are playing some brilliant football at the minute. Hopefully we can hold our own

Wenger set Arsenal to play very cautiously in the North London derby. If Herrera can replicate his performance at Anfield, where he nullified Coutinho, against Ozil and if our CBs can hold their own against Alexis (assuming he'll start up front), we'll be just fine... as long as we don't concede early again.

Plus Wenger's bad record against Mourinho can be attributed, up to a certain point, tο the Frenchman's tenacity to play through the central channels even when he has to move his lines way up the pitch in order to create numerical advantages and make the distances between his players as narrow as possible. It's something that clashes with Mourinho's persistence on building teams that prioritize defending well and leave no spaces though the middle of the park. Mourinho's tendency to gladly take the role of the underdog and therefore sit deep is what makes the difference when those two meet. But now Wenger seems that he's learned his lesson.

But in general, if you can defend well through the middle, you're ok against Arsenal. Poch fielded three at the back, it was like he was screaming it out loud. Even when we couldn't hold onto the ball for more than three seconds under LvG, we came close to winning 0-3 at the Emirates before Giroud's goal with the 352. Next season when we let them all kinds of spaces to operate into, we could have been 5-0 down at halftime.

Again our choices on the wings will be telling of our approach. If Mata starts, it will show if we'll fight for our fair share of possession in the attacking half (assuming that Pogba will be the most attacking minded CM) or if we'll just resort to counter attacks (we haven't excelled atm). I just hope that we want have both our wingers playing just in front of the FBs...

If we play the 3 man midfield that most of us here want to see in Carrick behind Pogba and Herrera then I will be confident going in to this game even with a make shift defence. Anything else and I think we will lose. Knowing Jose he will probably drop Carrick though

I think we have a chance but it'll be tough. They have been great this season and we know our shaky form. However I also think we are capable of getting a result if our players choose to turn up and put in a performance.

If we can't manage to be better in all areas, we'll be crashed by Arsene's men for sure.

We need to be solid, to press them and especially we need to hurt them in attack.

We've been creating chances against small sides, but none against Pool or Chelsea, and only one or two against City. So we must find a way to balance our game, find our attackers.

We'll be without Ibra, which is not a bad news tbh, but the bad news will be more who will replace him ?

Without doubt it'll be Rooney. Why ? Because Mou is stuck with him and can't get him out once again especially when Zlatan is out.

Then, with their level this season, would you trust Martial or Rashford in this spot ? Personnaly no

I really hope Mike Smalling (and not Chris) will be back, and Shaw too. We need speed against them.

We created the best chance of the game against Liverpool and also created a couple against Chelsea. I think we will get chances, but our main problem has been taking those chances.

Sanchez will be fine. He'll be dying to face Darmian again.

He won't be against Darmian most likely, as he's been up front anyway.

Hopefully he just needs that extra time to recover, and not face us though. Shed Giroud, or the pacy much better Sanchez? Hardly a debate!

True. He'll be facing Rojo and Jones instead.

The annoying thing was that I was aware Pogba was on 4 bookings (well, from half time on!), so every foul he committed I was worried. Then Ibra stormed someone over, and suddenly it's 5th booking, and out, doh!

The only positive with Rooney up front is that we can have a team full of more mobile players behind him .
Will definitely need more pace on the wings v Arsenal though. Even if one is Lingard and the other is Martial that's the sort of energy and mobility needed.

Mata off Rooney in the middle wouldn't be ideal, but hopefully we'll go Pogba and Herrera in front of Carrick, that's probably our best option.
Will be another big game another disappointment then

With Ibra out I just hope Jose has the guts to try Martial or Rashford as the #9 rather than Rooney. Could do with some pace.

1, Rooney did well in his last game against Swansea.
2, He scored the only goal against Fenerbahce.
    3, Ibra is not available.

Given the above, Rooney will start, as long as he is fit.

I'd love to see Carrick starting again with Pogba and Herrera in front.

    I'd like to see

    De Gea
    Jones - Smalling - Rojo - Blind
    Carrick
    Herrera - Pogba
    Mata - Martial - Memphis

Rooney will start ahead of Memphis though. I'd really like for Memphis to be given a run but it won't happen.

    like the FA Cup final?
Oh I see he scored a wonder goal that game. No I was talking more about his usual levels in the big games! City was the worst performance from any united player in years he was lucky to get to half time he was that bad. But I'm not talking about that either as he is usually better than that. I'm talking about the fact he is a very bland average player who really just does a lot of running without much actual contribution or quality to his game.

This is probably Wengers best change to do one on Mourinho so Id say Arse will be well up for it.
This. We're atrocious at the back, and they're a hell of a force going forward. They aren't too great at the back, but other than Swansea (who were the worst defensive team I can remember watching in the 1st half) we're struggling to score. Doesn't take much of an Einstein to figure out that if we don't drastically improve at the back and the front, a 0-0 might be the best we can hope for.

If Sanchez is out for 6 weeks then this just made us favourites, maybe the tide is starting to turn in Jose's favour.

I'm convinced Rooney will start in place of Zlatan - especially if he plays a bit for England and does OK.

Midfield three of Carrick, Herrera and Pogba is necessary, while I'd hope Valencia and Smalling can recover. The wings I'm a bit more unsure of but I'd like to send a message with Rashford and Martial to have a right go at them, rather than going with Young/Lingard or Mata. Hopefully Mkhitaryan will get a substitute appearance as well.

    de Gea
    Valencia Smalling Blind Shaw
    Herrera Carrick Pogba
    Rashford Rooney Martial

This would be my preferred line-up, but we'll have to wait and see who makes it back from international duty in good nick and who else can recover enough in time. If Shaw really has spit his dummy out, then maybe we could see how Jones does at CB if Sanchez is out, with Blind at LB.

This is almost a must-win game, we need a victory like this, especially at home. Due to our shortcomings against Stoke and Burnley, we have to make up the points in games where usually a draw wouldn't be a disaster.

Liverpool are storming it at the moment with a lot of players who do the same!

What is certain is Carrick and Mata will both play. We have won all games Carrick has started and the majority where Mata has started (no defeats).
