What is certain is Carrick and Mata will both play. We have won all games Carrick has started and the majority where Mata has started (no defeats).
Wish I was as confident as you are. I can see him going with Pogba, Herrera and Fellaini like he did at Liverpool and Chelsea. Slightly more confident that mata will start but still wouldn't be surprised to see him dropped for Young / Lingard

We are at home - why the doom and gloom?
With the exception of MCFC, we've been pretty decent.
I can't see us losing this one.

I would go with the diamondish/433 formation that we went with in the last game. We don't have good wide players to play a 4231.

    De Gea
    Young Smalling Rojo Shaw
    Carrick
    Herrera Pogba
    Mata
    Martial Rooney
    We'll win this 2-1.

    Provided everyone stays fit...

    DE GEA
    DARMIAN - JONES - ROJO - YOUNG
    FELLAINI - HERRERA
    MATA - POGBA - ROONEY
    RASHFORD

Rooney has looked good at LW the times hes played there. I think Carrick will get overrun by Arsenals midfield like he did last season away. So Herrera back in. Pogba stays at CAM so he can score some goals. And the backline stays the same although Jones might be a bit of a risk. Young has looked solid, Rojo has come into his own and showed what a good CB he can be and Fellaini keeps his place for me. Hes the balance

I don't really agree with your line up mate.
Do you really think that Rooney can handle Bellerin and Walcott nowadays ? If it was in 2008/2009 ok but not anymore.
Fellaini would be bullied by by Arsenal's energy. Carrick can do the job thanks to his calm and technic.
Then, I hope that Shaw and Smalling woud be back

Smalling was woeful against Chelsea. I don't trust him in big games at all.

Carrick and Schweinsteiger started last season and we went 3-0 down if I remember correctly. They got destroyed in midfield. Herrera and Pogba would counter that energy and Fellaini can break it up.

Whether Rooney can do a job at LM against Bellerin remains to be seen. But he was decent against Swansea so I think he should keep his place. He can interchange with Rashford and go up top if it's not working out.

We will win this game 3-0. However, I do have some reservations with regards to some of the line-up. I agree with Herrera and Pogba being in their own players. As far as Rooney is concerned, he should not be at LM against Bellerin. That will be a disaster. We know how bad Rooneys first touch is and how often he loses the ball. Should this be the case, Rooney is going to be left for dust. Bellerin is one of, if not the quickest right backs in the Premier league, and he can do it all game, question is, can Rooney keep tabs on him all game? I don't think so, and if Rooney is more busy in trying to stop Bellerin than he is attempting to start attacks, then we will have it all to do. He was decent against Swansea, but hey, who wasn't?

So you think we should play Carrick and Smalling?

To remind people: Smalling's performance against CFC, was one of the worst I've seen by a defender in a MUFC shirt, in recent times.
To put this guy up against AFC, would be like throwing him to the wolves. He'll stand no chance.
Players like Miki and Smalling need to be a given a few games against weaker teams, to get their confidence up. We saw what happened to Miki in the MCFC game. And Smalling (read above).

We need to field players who are confident and who have already had a run of games.

    I'd like to see

    De Gea
    Jones - Smalling - Rojo - Blind
    Carrick
    Herrera - Pogba
    Mata - Martial - Memphis

Rooney will start ahead of Memphis though. I'd really like for Memphis to be given a run but it won't happen.
Have you seen something from Memphis that you think means he should start this game? Or is it more trying to play him into form?

When I watch Memphis I always think the talent is there, but he has zero confidence and is trying too hard to make things happen.

Wouldn't be surprised when he leaves for him to prove himself as a top player ala KdB did. Sometimes it doesn't always work out at a club for whatever reason.

I think he could use a run of games as you say but would be a bit risky to start him in a game as big as this one.

Yes, far too much is being made of the Chelsea game. Smalling was our best defender last season and carrying an injury in that game - Blind was just as bad too which has barely been mentioned.

When the alternative is one of Jones or Rojo, he has to start.

KdB was good at Werder Bremen and even better at Wolfsburg. Mourinho simply fecked up not playing him, the talent was always there.

Memphis has been given plenty of time to show what he can do, but i have not yet seen the talent you are talking about, besides a game against Midtjylland.

Now that would be a real blow for them!

Looks a fair bit less clear on Sanchez. Some reports have it as out for 6 weeks, while others suggest he'll play for Chile on Tuesday!

If he and Bellerin were both out that'd be a huge bonus, and cut their pace down a huge notch!

It seems to be pretty confirmed that he's out for at least a month or so. Martial vs Jenkinson..?

On Alexis, yeah - Chile seems to try to get him to play next week, Arsene upset, understandably.

With that bit of news, José has no real excuse should we lose. Two of their better players out through injury, it would be a massive result if they beat us. I still say 3-0 to us easily, but should we lose, José will be on shaky ground. We have absolutely no excuse.

What on earth mate. Even with those two out 3-0 is blimming optimistic

We're scratching around trying to work a lot out, and they're going very well.

Having said that, we beat them last year with a ridiculous lineup we all feared the worst over.
We certainly need to claw some teams back in

    Big match. Pressure to win.
You bet @Hugh Jass !! This month is going to be a terrible month for disappointment should losing two games at Arsenal and Feyenoord happen. We could potentially be out of 2 competitions with the league cup fixture against West Ham too towards the end of the month; make that 3 if they up their game. Basically, we have 4 home games in the next four games in the Premier league, Europa League, the Premier League and League cup. The pressure on José could be enormous. Losing four games in a row would be terrible, but to lose 4 games in a row at home would be catastrophic and I am not sure that has even happened unless someone can point me to the statistics.

We will beat Feynoord and West Ham. Wouldnt be as confident for the Arsenal game.

Assuming that they are fit, I want to see:

    -------------------- DDG --------------

We might well beat Feyenoord, but that will only depend on how they play. Both Manchester United and Feyenoord know that there will only be one more place up for grabs simply because Fenerbaçe will beat Zorya which means they cannot be caught by us. That leaves only one place left and that is between Manchester United and Feyenoord. If we don't win that, we will be out and I cannot see Feyenoord wanting to lose. Should we get 2nd place, we already know who we might face from the Europa league since we will be unseeded. The teams we could face in the knockouts could be:

    Besiktas
    Borussia Monchengladbach
    PSV Eindhoven
Tottenham Hotspur (perhaps not possible because we come from the same country, perhaps too early)
    Sporting CP
    FC Copenhagen.

Valencia will be out for some time as well as Smalling and Fellaini as they are both injured. As for Arsenal; Sanchez, Bellerin and Cazorla are out, although it is possible they will give a late fitness test to Cazorla since they think he could be back on the 19th of November.

Yeah but there's also 9 days to kick-off, so ruling out Smalling & Felli already feels a bit premature. Sánchez the same, he might even play against Uruguay. Fwiw I think he's out for a few weeks.

I still think that we will have too much for them. 3-0 to us at home seems a pretty reasonable shout and it could be Josés' second win against a top 6 side. With Zlatan, Pogba and Rooney we shouldn't have too many problems.

Zlatan’s suspended. I trust us to beat them, too, especially if Sánchez is out.

It'd be quite a statement from Jose to leave Rooney out with Ibra out.
One that I fear is just too big even for a ruthless guy like him.

Our fixtures immediately following international breaks have been brutal. City, Liverpool and now Arsenal.

Is Sanchez definitely out? I read he was missing an international fixture this week, but could be fit to play another next week.

Seems like he MIGHT be OK, Chile are saying he wants to play in the 2nd group game but Wenger isn't happy. Hopefully he won't be up to full speed.
