Our record with Jones in midfield is pretty positive. He wont be a pleasure to the eyes, but get the job done.

Anyway, i doubt LVG will play him there... he clearly prefers him at the back. And i agree... Blind can do a job in midfield, better than our replacements CB can do the job Phil Jones do back there.

    Truly mental.
    Minefield, more like..
It's interesting to me that Jones has not been tried once in midfield for all of LVGs tinkering.

I don't think he sees that happening, anyway. When i watch him i don't think, "Get that guy into midfield" to be honest.

He's shown he can be effective there, it's certainly not 'mental' to like him as a midfielder, imho.
Midfield is a highly technical area about creating space, closing spaces, making hard passes, timing tackles and knowing when to sit deep and when to drive forward. Something Jones has zero idea how to do, as evident by his "lunge into every tackle no matter what" attitude.
Well, without getting overly technical. Most people say Blind/Herrera are too dynamic with the ball to play that 'Carrick' role in the DM position, and so I thought Jones would be the best player to play in that position. He's a robust guy. Seen him play fabulously in midfield on more than one occasion, including a couple of games in Moyes' tenure. He has that desire to go and get the ball for us, much like Fletcher or Scholes once did, but obviously being a central defender he is a better tackler than the two of them combined.

There is no doubt he's a nervy guy, but having two CB's behind him WILL make him a better player. Call me crazy but I think he has a very underrated passing range, genuinely. Think he's about ten leagues better than Chris Smalling on the ball.

Very similar to Mascherano IMO. Think he will do well if given the job, and will keep the system compact just like LVG wants.

And just to justify myself even more, I was watching the highlights of the 11/12 season, and was very impressed with the job Jones did in the opposition half.

Was he out with a spade or a rake fixing up the pitch?

No I mean he's injured so won't play this game. Was replying to the guy who put him in his team. I put it in the form of a question so I wouldn't come across as condescending.
Oh, i knew what you meant Jay :)

Sorry, i was just messing around & makin light of Di Maria bein a bit shit this season - like someone playin with injuries.. (broken ankles in his case )

Oh ok fair enough, definitely agree with you that he's been underwhelming this season. Hopefully next season we see more of the form he showed early on this season!

Someone should have a quiet word with Di Maria before the game starts, don't go hassling the 4th official if or when you are about to come on. I'm not sure Michael Oliver would take to kindly to any shirt pulling telling him his job once more. Mike Dean to take charge, he's not bad, bit inconsistent, but he's no worse than most.

It's looking like it will be a very young bench with the exception of Valdes I suspect.

Start Valdes in goal. Clearly, he was bought in to cover DDG when he goes, so may as well put him in now. If DDG isn't signing a new contract, why give him an OT farewell?
Don't know, maybe to have somebody in goal whose last competitive game was not 100 years ago, hasn't had a pretty bad injury and is a far, far better keeper perhaps?

As far as we know - our Dave is still undecided, or confused as a blind lesbien in fish shop..

Imagine he was edging towards staying & then he gets benched on Sunday? Jesus - the riots in Manchester on Sunday would be of Northern Irish standard..

John "The Cat" O'Shea, left the club years ago man ;)

Just had a little peak on an Arsenal forum to see their recent opinion of us and on the game. I saw this "DM reporting de Gea has agreed personal terms with Madrid. Silly little feeder club Yanited are. Hope we brush them aside like they were Hull or some other lower table filth."

Oh please spank these and put them back in their hole just so they know we are back and they will be back to playing for their 4th place trophy again next season.

To be fair, it will be nice to be there for David De Gea's last game at Old Trafford ;)

This club needs to get serious about goalkeeper preparation for next season, starting with THIS match. We have waited long enough!

For that reason, I hope that everyone at Old Trafford whistles at De Gea to help get him ready for next year at Madrid.

If Rojo is deemed fit to play then you would expect that to be the line up.
