Can we keep in the tie after the first game?
We don't want "That" feeling walking out that we had after the PSG game.

Yes, we got through that, but that was a once in a decade job to come through in that situation!

We've been shocking at home in Europe this year.
    • One goal so far in four games and that was in injury time by a player (Fellaini) who has since left.
    • Worst ever European defeat at home: 0-2, i.e. we had never previously lost by a two-or-more goal margin at home in Europe.
Considering ticket holders pay a premium for these games, they've been a miserable experience with nothing for the fans to get behind.

A win would be fantastic, just scoring would be lovely.

    Glad someone pointed this out!
I was at all 4 games, and people laugh that I've been to 4 Manchester United home games, and seen 1 goal from our players!!

(Throw in the Tottenham 0-3, and I've only actually seen the above Fellaini goal, and 2 v Leicester opening day, in 6 games!!. Not promising as I'm coming to Barcelona, City and Chelsea )

Barca are not doing that well , Messi is holding them together.
If we can stop him , we have a slim chance of a result, but if not he could rip us apart and I fear a drubbing worse than the 6-1 City gave us.
No, not unless we get someone sent off before half time, and go insanely gung ho when 3-1 down at 88mins again.

    Losing to Comeback Winning!
Home game -- play Defensive and Quick Counter Attack. 5-3-2

    DDG (C)
    Dalot* -- Bailly* -- Smalling -- Lindelof -- Shaw
    Herrera -- McTominay* -- Pogba
    Rashford -- Martial*

 Youthful energy right and left wing. Dalot-Rashford and Shaw-Martial.
Dalot, Shaw and Pogba to pull the trigger-quick passes to Rash and Tony.

Dalot tend to be fearless when attacking, and I think we need that more especially this game. Don't remember the last time McT played so bad in important big games. Pogba is a gamble here, in big games he can either cost the team or win it. Bailly at his best can lessen the influence of key players when he's assigned to mark them, he literally did that before in his prev team vs CR7 and Messi among others, getting him to or hoping he'll regain that form though is the problem. Martial hopefully in his best aggressive attacking form this time, not his usual cool chilling form.

It's 5 gambles we should take. Wonder what Ole will pick.

*Ole may let Young play this because experience (Ole seems to trust exps head in important games than gamble start youth unless if no choice he have to) and likely Young's good response training performances. *And relying on Matic again in big game instead of McT. If Herrera's out, return of McTominic? that would also be a nice option, doubt though. Pogba is almost certain to start because of his fondness towards him. Rashford definitely unless he's out injured/ill. *Martial's performance last time vs PSG 1st leg is too nervy, maybe Lukaku instead. *Jones instead of Bailly?

Hopefully every key players from both teams are fit. Would be boring if Barca have Messi and others missing injured. Our players should have more than enough time to recover from injuries and train/prepare better for this game, so we can enjoy our team have a great go at Messi and co.

Let's see if our players are motivated with the right attitude or give up early crumble under pressure as soon as the ref blow the whistle.

I'd feel a lot more confident if there wasn't such negativity at the club at the moment. The De Gea, Hererra, Pogba, Lukaku contract rumours, the two defeats to Wolves, loss of form of our best players etc. couldn't have come at a worse time.

That being said, hopefully the atmosphere will be great and the players respond. Just a good fight/show of spirit would be nice to see.

I'm much more confident of getting a result to bring to the nou camp. The misguided over confidence going in to PSG was a real reality check. Nobody is expected a good performance, we've had a bit more rest for this game and I still think we can beat any team in Europe on our day. The issue is making sure Messi has a bad day. I expect a deep line and trying to get them on counter attack. Don't think we will be pressing hard in the first leg. It will be edgy, a 1.1 or 2.1 to us. Barca are a good side but not the Barca of years ago and they will expect to roll us over. They haven't filled there away allocation for the tie, loads of fans aren't traveling. They can be got it, it's just making sure that backline doesn't do something ridiculous. I'm looking at Smalling and Young, let's tangle and do this shit. Bitey will be rolling around like a breakdancer at Old Trafford, cheating no doubt.

Did anyone catch their match against Atletico? How'd they play? Because Atletico went down to 10 men and it took til the 85th or so minute for Barcelona to break the deadlock .

Barca weren’t great Atletico did really well good Suarez goal broke them then Messi did his thing. Atletico have a much better defense than us though think we need something special like Paris but this time possibly by two games

Barca prob won’t need to be great as mentioned above

Barca are pretty rubbish away from home in the CL so I think we''ll not lose by more than a goal.

Wonder if Pogba will go back to playing a more advanced role? I feel we need him to play a blinder if we're going to get anything from this.

Unless we pull off a massive turnaround of form and surprise, this won't be pleasant viewing, I don't think. I'll still watch and hope for the best.

It turned out OK with PSG, so I can only hope for something similar.

I think Barca's style will suit us just fine. Will be a close game as long as we don't make individual errors.

Head says Barca will sneak it by a goal over 2 legs, heart says we will do that.

Ignore the people joking that you shouldn't go to any more games. Worst advice possible.

What you actually need to do is go but stand facing away from the pitch. And wear your shoes on the other feet. And all your clothes inside out and your underwear on top of your trousers.

It may sound silly but you'll start to believe, and you'll truly understand when we win the CL final.

Pogba will be key in this tie. Barca won't man mark him like PSG did, they'll be coming to Old Trafford to play their football. There will be space for him to carry the ball and play passes in behind. I hope he plays further forward and doesn't get stuck too deep.

I dont care much about result, wanna see performance, them being brave and not bunch of cowards playing like Sunday league team. People might defend it with them being better and stronger but that has nothing to do with bite, desire etc.

Have to agree with this. It's going to be interesting to see which Pogba shows up. Hope he at least busts a gut trying to impress Madristas by putting in a shift against their big rivals. But I'd also not be surprised if he does nothing. Shame really. I thought it was all Joses fault.

I have a feeling we'll fluke our way to a 4th cup. We don't play well against teams that defend against us, but against teams that give us space we are very good.

We won against Juventus and PSG in very jammy ways. That sort of jamminess has been a feature of CL winning teams. Real Madrid were extremely jammy last season and even in the final they got gifted the game.

I beg to differ. I think Matic and Herrera will be a key to this game. They need do their duties well and form a shield in front of our defense to stop Messi & co. Rest will depend on how Rashford, Lingard and Martial can hurt Barca on the counter from the limited chances that come their way. Pogba will be like he always is in big games: like a lost puppy.

 not a chance. Maybe if we got dealt Porto or someone now but it’s going to be Barca, then Liverpool then City/Juve. Luck would run out at some point. Probably the first hurdle.

The CL has been in a horrible state for a long time where the referee completely changes the complexion of games. I can see us winning the CL if we are the team that gets the luck from referees.

McTominay and Herrera might be allowed to kick Messi off the park in both legs by the refs and make our job easier. Casemiro was allowed to get away with multiple yellow card offences for a long time in the CL.

Oh, I really wasn't going to let some random oiks on a forum stop me going to games

Going to the bigger games obviously massively decreases my chances of goals. If I went to the Huddersfield and Fulham games and still saw 0-0s I'd worry!

Imagine if we got through the Barce game....suddenly in the semi finals... no, mustn't start this sort of thought. But only in football can you lose a few and still have massive "what if" optimism!
