Ibra's had enough bench games now, he needs a start.

Lukaku has played pretty much every minute of every game so far, and Ibra can't just be a permanent sub

Not with Darmian(the worst attacking player in all my time watching us) and Shaw(has he more than 3 assists in all his time here). I prefer Mata for this game than wingbacks, especially the two you mentioned.
Without wingbacks we don't get any width in the team and it enables teams to funnel us central and choke our attack. Mata is in the team I posted and I thought Shaw had a promising game last week, no harm in giving him a chance. I agree with you on Darmian but we have to rest Valenica when we have 3 games in a week.

Seems a good match to give Rom a day off. Also wouldn't seeing if Shaw could build off his last performance.

Best news is this match is midweek and we don't have to wait a whole week to get the taste of defeat out our mouths.

You made it out like Lukaku was 'costing us matches'.

What matches? Today, ok he should have done better.

But his all round play and assists have helped us win games until now. Making Rom a scapegoat for a loss against the best side in the league is silly.
He is the cause for today's defeat. Missed a sitter and gifted two goals with awful defending. Do you need him to score own goals before you can point a finger at him?

3 at the back isn't negative, it frees the wingbacks up to be more attacking and has worked better for Martial, Lukaku and Lingard than the other formations, it free's Martial from the constant tracking back and gives Lukaku a player near him at all times.
You might be right. Most of out attackers waste way too much energy constantly tracking back to defend. They get tired and screw up important attacks. Jose was yelling at Lukaku to track back and get the ball. Was it helpful? Lukaku couldn't win a single air ball. I dont think we should blame Lukaku for that. The coach has to know how to bring most out of our players.
Say we sell players and bring more. We have already spent a ton of money. Will bringing more player solve the problems? Im not convinved.
Look at Sane and De Bruine. Were they good before? They were flying today. Its all about confidence, tactics and a good game plan. Sane surprised me. He was holding on the ball so well. De Bruine is pure class. I didn't think the guy is so good. I used to watch him before. He was never this good. Its the way you make them play. Pep knows how to do that. All Jose does is blame this and that guy publicly. Does that increase the players morale?

Idk, I think Ibra is not fast enough anymore for the counter attacks. I think, we shouldnt have signed him. Jose probably needed him for the team spirit. His substitution today shows how useless he is in these kind of games. We needed Mata/Mkhi/Pogba kind of guy, not taking Lingard off for ZLatan. It was painful to watch. No matter how much of a Lion heart one has, he is 36 for gods sake.

A win is required here to set things right and focus on our selves and totally forget about City game as soon as possible, we need to be positive still 22 games to play.

Start Rashford or Ibra up top. Lukaku hasn't even earned the right to play himself into some confidence.

    Valencia - Bailly - Jones - Young
    Matic - Fellaini
    Mata - Lingard - Rashford/Martial
    Lukaku

That's my predicted lineup. I favor Rashford to start this though with Martial starting against WBA.

Thats about third or 4th time in a row that i predict Bailly starting. I hope I don't have to change it pre game as usual.

Martial should definitely be given the chance as a centre forward. The only thing stopping this from happen could be that he's been brilliant at the left flank. Rashford is my second choice. Lukaku should be rested.

I read somewhere that Bailly suffered a setback and won't be available for the next few games.

Rashford up top please. Guardiola rested Aguero, Lukaku deserves some rest too.

Feels irrelevant now but we can't get sloppy, we must maintain our second place spot as the CL places fight will be tight. I'd rest Tony and Young, give Shaw a game and have Mata start. Lukaku is undroppable so not point in thinking about that. I wouldn't be that surprised to see McTominay start over Herrera either.

How do you select the team like that? Do you have an app?

Should be enough for 3 points, and hopefully gives Rom a wake up call.

I think Lukaku needs a rest and some pressure taken off him. I'd start Rashford or Martial up front and bring in Mata for one of the wide forward positions. Ibra has been useless in the few minutes he's played since coming back (I know its unfair to judge on only a few minutes, but in that time I haven't seen him complete a single pass or win a single challenge), and worry if we start him he'd be a liability and we need to bounce back with a solid win to get some sort of morale back. Than hopefully we'll get a few goals up and can bring Lukaku or Ibra in fresh to get a cameo goal to boost their form a little.

Drop Lukaku please, and revert to 3 at the back.

    Lindelof - Smalling - Blind
    Young - Herrera - Matic - Shaw
    Mata
    Zlatan - Martial

Moving swiftly on with this one. Good to have another game so soon to pick morale up. Lukaku and Herrera were atrocious in the derby and Martial wasn't much better but I would start him. I'd give McTominay a chance in MF. Lukaku is the difficult one. Ibra looks a long way from being sharp and it could be a good game for Rom to score a couple and get his confidence up. That said I think Rashford deserves a chance through the middle. Shaw at LB and Micky to come back in:

    ------------------------------DDG

    Darmian-----Lindelof----Jones-----Shaw

    --------------McTominay------Matic

    Micky-----------------Mata-------------Martial

    ------------------------Rashford

Lukaku will definitely start this. He'll be under massive pressure though and if he doesn't score his situation will be even more complicated.

I think United should stick to 352 formation, playing 3 at the back we looked more assured. Dropping Lukaku needs to be done. I would go with this line up.

    DDG
    Lindeloff--------Mike------------Jones
    Valencia-------------Afro----------Matic-------------Young
    Lingaard
    Rashford------------Martial

Playing Rashers and Martial both up front where they both want to play could help them develop better and maybe get a combo going. Lingaard has been really good for the last few games hence starts, otherwise Mikhi/Mata, or even Pogs to play there to encourage him to get more involved in the attacking side of the game. Lukaku needs to be dropped, he has not been poor but abysmal. Except for that goal against Southampton, he has not scored any match winners, United bought him for 75 mill to win us matches, not to score only when everyone on the team is scoring or when we are comfortably winning.

Not sure if we should rest Lukaku or not. I am pretty sure Jose will play him to get his confidence back.

Same team as against City but with some actual attacking intent.

important 3 points at stake in the battle for second place

think we should rotate a little

    ----------------------DDG----------------------
    TV---------VL--------------MR-----------LS
    -----------------AH-------NM----------------
    -----------------------JM-----------------------
    RL------------------ZLATAN-----------------AM

run outs to McTominay and Tuanzebe if possible

in attacking terms we are very light in wide/creative areas

We have a great run of games now, let’s just get the City-result out of our heads. Victory is all that matters, it’s a round where all/most top teams are getting easy wins.

What is resting Aguero and what Guardiola is doing has to do with anything? Lukaku can score against Bournemouth he needs to play specially after what happened against city, he needs his confidence back IMO.

We’ll hopefully be back to winning ways again.

Also, I think José should try to get Mkhitaryan going again, we could do with an in-form Mkhitaryan.

    I’d go with:

    ——————— De Gea ———————
    Valencia - Lindelöf - Smalling - Shaw
    ————— Matic —- Herrera ————
    Mata ————- Lingard ——— Rashford
    ——————-— Lukaku ———————

    Bring on Zlatan/Martial/Mkhitaryan/Bailly

Just hope this defeat is gone to bed and we start win again against Bournemouth, if we didn't forget and bounced back very quickly we will face a battle finishing top four later on, hope the team has faith still and look forward there are so many to play for still, and if we start winning again with the first dropped points for city things will be better which will happen IMO.

There needs to be a massive improvement on the dross that was served up against City. Lift the shackles, and yeah, Luke Shaw would be a welcome change.
