I think we'll go back to the lineup against Cardiff - with the possible exception of resting Matic. Lukaku might make an appearance as I think it was said he was missing two games as part of his compassionate leave and Huddersfield was the second one.
Yeah, apparently Rashford wasn't well today but managed to play, so if him and Martial are both ready for Sunday I see the same line-up as Cardiff with Lukaku and Sanchez coming off the bench to get some minutes.

    This is my preferred line-up

    De Gea
    Young, Lindelof, Bailly, Shaw

    Herrera, Perreira, Pogba

    Lingard, Rashford, Martial*

*assuming he has gotten over his illness. If not, I'd bring Greenwood's debut forward

    Same team vs Cardiff.

With Lukaku and Sanchez coming back into the fold, be interesting to see who doesn't make match day squad.

    De Gea
    Young Lindelof Jones Shaw
    Herrera Matic Pogba
    Lingard Rashford Martial

Romero Smalling Dalot Fellaini Fred Sanchez Lukaku

    Which would leave:

    Pereira
    Mata
    Bailly
    Rojo
    McTominay

Both Lingard and Rashford look like they need a rest. The latter one can come on as a second half sub. Same for Alexis, since he has been out for a while, if he's even in the squad that is. It would make some sense if Lukaku, Martial and Mata are the front 3.

Bournemouth are very open. Our defense did look vulnerable at times today too.

This could be a very exciting 4-2, 5-3 type of game. I expect us to win though, home game and with more attacking options to choose from. Hope Ole tries out Martial-Rashford-Alexis front 3.

This is the first team that will compete for the ball Ole is facing.

We've looked shaky at the back all season to be fair, regardless of the system and the personnel we have played back there.

I like your front three but I'd change it slightly. Something like: Rashford--Martial--Sanchez.

Since 95% of our attacking play originates from the left flank, Rashford would end up operating as a striker for the most part, plus he would be given license to interchange with Martial at any given opportunity. Really like our forward options in an attacking system.

I don't like dropping Lingard because he presses better than any player in our starting lineup, but he is just too inconsistent in front of goal.

Has this 'x team should be low after the battering they received' ever worked for us? Always seems the opposite. Anyway, I hope we can integrate 2 players more (Lukaku, Sanchez) as everybody deserves a clean slate. AT LEAST keep the level of today's showing as I don't really think it was that good. Win and go forward.

It'll be nice to have Martial, Lukaku, and possibly Sanchez back in the mix. They will be needed over this period and I'm sure Ole is going to establish his main three forwards over January. Everyone will get their chance as he says, but I think the idea will be to find his best 11 before the PSG tie and hopefully be able to use it. There are eight games before then to decide that, so I expect to see 1-3 unforced changes per game (bar Reading) to really get a good look at everyone.

As for this game, the main changes I expect are Mata and Fred out, Martial and Herrera in:

    de Gea
    Dalot Lindelof Jones Shaw
    Matic
    Herrera Pogba
    Lingard Rashford Martial
    ---
Romero; Bailly, Young; Fred, Fellaini, Mata; Lukaku

Despite the continual 'everyone will get a chance' phrase and expecting the odd unforced change here and there right now, I think it will be the same 14-15 players that played so far seeing most of the action here and at Newcastle. We play Reading after that where I think we'll see the wholesale changes and a chance to bring in the likes of Smalling, Sanchez, and Lukaku returning from injury. Probably Pereira, Greenwood, and Gomes from the younger players too.

Guaranteed to see Lukaku come off the bench and I think he'll get a huge reception. I'm hopeful he can hit some form through January. I've said 3-1 again. Bournemouth seems to either win or suffer a somewhat heavy defeat at the moment. No doubt they'll have worked on the defence in training after shipping 13 in their last four games though! So, I don't expect us to thump them and I always fancy Bournemouth to score - they were definitely unlucky to not get a couple at Spurs.

Be happy with a win, any win because that's all that is important at the moment....

    De Gea
    Dalot Lindelof Jones Young
    Pereira Herrera Pogba
    Lukaku Alexis Martial

Be nice to see Garner get a place on the bench and get a few minutes late on if we're comfortable but like Greenwood he may have to wait until the Reading match to get his chance.

We need to get this combo to get going

    Martial - Rashford - Sanchez
The game might be too soon for Sanchez but this should be our first choice forwards for the rest of the season. Lingard and Lukaku should fill in whenever necessary.

The preview feed for this thread seemed to read as ‘Manchester United vs Bournemouth Class of 63’ and I thought ‘well that is a bit lopsided, isn’t it?’

Good thing we have martial back for this one. Really need him as the players seemed to be tiring a little bit towards the end and we need fresh legs for the game.

I can see martial starting on the left wing for this game, with lukaku coming in to replace rashford on the second half. Can't imagine Sanchez being risked in this game, after weeks out injured.

The defence could also remain the same as they are less prone to fatigue but the midfield is a real concern, especially with Fred coming up short off late and matic hardly the most mobile. Return of fellani perhaps????

I hope Sanchez and Lukaku feature at some point, and then ,maybe they can be in contention to start the next one.
    Glad to have Martial back

Even though spurs walloped them, Bournemouth created some very good clear cut chances. On a different day they could have scored 3 or 4 themselves

Our defence will need to be spot on. Wilson, Fraser, Brooks are all very good players.

However with united gaining confidence I expect us to keep the momentum if not a clean sheet

I don't think Bournemouth will come to OT as open as they were against Spurs after the pasting they got. We will win but it won't be a handsome scoreline.

We need to win the next three - Bournemouth, Newcastle and Reading (FA Cup) - which would set us up beautifully for our first major test under Ole against Spurs.

More than anything else I just hope the goals keep flowing because that's what ultimately breeds confidence and 8 in 2 is a pretty great start in that regard.

They will come out to play and I think we'll absolutely spank them as a result. Another 4-5 goals incoming!

I hope so, because Bournemouth are also very good at exposing us defensively as evidenced in the reverse fixture this season. We're still conceding a fair few chances defensively as well, the only difference is that we look better going forward.

Against Spurs they were unlucky not to score two or three, whilst Spurs scored with every chance that fell their way.

Personally I can see us winning by a single goal margin with Bournemouth also scoring.

Rashford is honestly the last player I would want to rest
Everyone needs to rest - and against Bournemouth we can afford to give him a rest. I would much rather have him back for Newcastle where he will be needed

Young and Matic have to start, Bournemouth will heavily test that backline.

I don't see much rest for Rashford or Lingard here or at Newcastle. I think they'll start both games, but be subbed off if we can afford that luxury (two goal cushion after an hour).

We play Reading in the FA Cup after Newcastle, I think Ole will use that as his opportunity to rotate the entire front line. I wouldn't be surprised to see Martial, Lingard, and the Rash sit out that game entirely.

Maybe even rest Matic and put Herrera on.

Then we will really finish them off

Time is a funny thing. As little as two weeks ago, hearing that Lukaku and Sanchez would be returning would fill hearts with dread. Now, the belief and optimism are there and you think "maybe our players aren't so bad after all".
