Play Mata in behind him and he should do well there. As long as he's not isolated and has someone who can find his runs, he should get goals.
The problem is I do see him being isolated. Van gaal seems to prefer a striker who plays with his back to goal and one of their most important roles in the system he has implemented is the strikers hold up play, I'm surprised Hernandez is still here as a result.

Score early on, close up shop and see it through quietly. Nothing more, nothing less. Just take us back to the CL

I don't see any significant changes in the line up, certainly not in defense. There might be some movement in the attacking places because there is room for improvement there. This is one of the most important matches of the season and LvG is a Dutch coach so he will see European football as the highest priority and not underestimate opponents there.

Hoping for a comfortable 2-0 win or better without conceding and I think that's very realistic judging from the first two games in the PL.

Expecting one change at the most. Someone in for Januzaj.

Then Saturday Carrick, Rooney, Mata and maybe Januzaj can come in.

    2-0.

I don't think we'll rotate THAT much, just 2 or 3 players. We really should get used to midweek games again if we ever want to compete on all fronts this season.

Not just that, the way we play at the moment and squad of players we have are definitely more suited to do well in champions league then PL.

Wouldn't mind if Fellaini, Rojo and Hernandez all get 90 mins in the match.

Anyone ever actually watched this team?
Okay, so who knows Club Brugge? Good players? Bad players? Set up?
I don't watch them every week but still..

They've got a pretty strong team right now, one that should be challenging for the title in Belgium, but they shouldn't be a problem for United in all fairness. You might want to grab a reassuring lead at Old Trafford because they're quite difficult to beat at home and have a great set of fans as well, I think the atmosphere will be very good because they all look forward to this game - 'twas sold out in no time, really.

Their keeper, Matt Ryan, left for Valencia this summer, and he was one of their best players over the last two seasons. They brought in a decent replacement in Sinan Bolat (from Porto), but their other keeper has played every game so far. Their first choice RB is Thomas Meunier, a Belgian international and a huge United fan, but he's still injured and I can't see him making one of the two legs. His replacement, De Fauw, is quite old and not exactly a world beater. Their two best CBs, Engels and Duarte, are out as well (Engels I'm sure of, Duarte not so much but at least he didn't start tonight and I've got no idea why). Their LB likes to go forward but is somewhat error prone from time to time. Their best defender available is still Timmy Simons, 38-year old captain who'll probably be played as CB against United. Great positional sense, has still got a very good stamina and reads the game very well.

Refaelov and Vazquez (former Barça youth product) are two of their best midfielders but you probably won't face them - Vazquez started his first game of the season tonight, but I don't think he'll be fit enough to play against United and you're lucky about that. The midfield (just a guess but pretty accurate I think) will probably be Vormer, Vanaken and Diaby. Vormer is the engine, Vanaken the creative outlet and I can't say much about Diaby tbh but he scored a lot of goals last season for a midtable Belgian team. If it's not that, they might shift Simons to CDM or play Claudemir there, but he's not wold beater IMO.

Their two best wingers are injured as well, Gedoz and Izquierdo. Tuur Dierckx might play, he's a young and energetic winger, two-footed and very fast. The other winger could be Obbi Oulare but I think they're going to go with Bolingoli, Lukaku's nephew. Oulare and Vazquez played today so that's why I don't think they'll start on Tuesday. The striker will probably be Tom De Sutter - he's off to Bursaspor after the two games against United but he's a very useful player and will probably aim for a nice goodbye. He's strong in the air and has a good hold-up play, knows where the goal is as well. He's not too quick but his all around game is rather good. He could be a problem for United's defence on his day.

But like I said, I watch them regularly but certainly not every time they play. @Superpolfcb will definitely have better insights regarding their game against United and can probably correct me on some points as well.

We'll barely rotate and rightly so. I expect the same team we've seen so far with Bastian coming in for Carrick. Young might get another run out in place of Memphis or Adnan.
Wouldn't mind that Bastian comes in for Carrick. Do hope that Januzaj stays in the team as he was our matchwinner today, and he'll only get fitter the more games he gets. As he said himself after the match: "My fitness is not so good and I hope to have more games in my legs". I'd like to see Herrera start aswell, and Pereira and Chicharito to get some minutes. Rest Carrick and Mata. Rooney should probably start, but hopefully he doesn't need to play the whole match.

So they have a shit load of injuries to some of their most important players. Sounds promising.

As if we'll rotate in arguably our most important game of the season.

Yes. Not counting on miracles: Duarte, Engels, Denswil, Meunier, Refaelov, Izquierdo and Gedoz are definitely out for the United games, and there are four or five automatic starters for them in that list if they're healthy.

Europe is where I expect us to reap the full benefits of van Gaalism. The slower more deliberate pace won't look out of place. Too many times I've seen us caught out in Europe by talented yet underrated teams because we let them have too much of the play. I don't expect that to happen under Louis.
    Excellent point, hope you're right.

    ....and Solskjaer has won it!
    ------------Romero------------
    Darmian Smalling Blind Shaw
    --Schneiderlin Schweinsteiger
    -----Mata Herrera Young-----
    -----------Rooney-------------

LVG will play his most trusted players for this match. I think he was saving Young for this game and it wouldn't surprise me to see Carrick rested (but coming on after an hour) with Schweinsteiger making his first start due to the slower pace compared to the PL. Herrera may well get the nod as his link up play with BFS and Morgan in the middle of the park will help us control the game more and represent a lower risk.

It also wouldn't surprise me if we got to see the likes of Rojo, Fellaini and Hernandez getting some minutes in the second half.

De Gea's in the papers saying he's mad to play.
Wonder how mad he'll be to play on Tuesday if it cup ties him...

I expect something like this. Basti might not be fully fit to start, but I think Januzaj will be rested, and possibly Memphis for Ander too.

Been a long time coming this one. I think without any disrespect to Brugge we really need to be aiming for 3-4 goals here and not conceding. A 1-0 or 2-0 is not a good scoreline to take away to and unknown ground in a one off game.

Besides that if we can get the job done at Old Trafford we can get a few other players a game in the away leg. Not taking anything for granted just want to qualify but would make things a lot more simple.

Looking at Their results, Club Brugge don't perform too well away from home, although they did put 3 past Dnipro if that means anything.

We are going to have to put this to bed at old trafford because Brugge do play well at home, and we haven't played competitively on the continent for quite some time.

would really like to see this, maybe junazaj for herrera.

Doubt LVG will take risks, think he will prioritise those who can retain the ball well

No need to make wholesale changes, just give players who deserve a start a start. No change to the back 5, they are building a good foundation which we've missed for a while.

I think LvG should go with:

    Romero
    Darmian Smalling Blind Shaw
    Schweinsteiger
    Herrera Schneiderlin
    Mata Rooney Memphis

wouldn't mind seeing junazaj start upfront.

even though im taking into account his annual early season slump, rooney was alarmingly poor yesterday.

Should aim to wrap this tie up at home, having to get something in Belgium would be a nightmare scenario in terms of preparation for the league.

Usually we would attempt to blow the opposition out the water in the home leg but I see it being different under LVG. I think it will be another measured performance with lots of possession. Hoping for a 2-0 and then we will look to control the away leg in the same vein.
