If we don't get maximum points here then it's time to start worrying. Can't keep dropping points against the 'lesser' sides.

Falcao initially was reported to have a knock. Now physioroom.com shows that it is calf injury.
Any idea how bad it is?

If Falcao is not even at least on the bench for this game then it's time to start worrying.

It's supposedly a knock, will be the 3rd week he's out and we don't even know what the exact injury is.

If Falcao is only half fit, then I dont see any use putting him on bench. Anyways the int'l break is coming up.

4-4-2 diamond for me. Januzaj or Wilson up top with RvP, Rooney behind.

    Blind behind Fellaini and AdM

Then the defence (oh my lord):

    Shaw - Blackett/Carrick - McNair - Valencia

Time to revert back to the diamond IMO.

It get's the best out of Di Maria, Herrera Fellaini and Blind in the other midfield positions, leaving RVP and Rooney up top. Plenty of fight and energy in that midfield, with decent height also to handle set pieces.

    Wilson
Width provided by Di Maria and Herrea in what is some sort of hybrid 4-1-4-1/4-1-2-1-2 formation that has huge emphasis on possession and protection of the back four.

Wouldn't be surprised .Listening to his international coach he's not expecting him back any time soon.

Meh, I have a special part of my brain that was developed as a coping mechanism for all the injury hit players we have had over the years.

I no longer look forward to seeing that player play for us and think when they do it'll be ok but they won't be very fit and they won't perform very well before they are off injured for a spell again. Saha built the foundations, Neville built the walls during his various "2 week breaks", Hargreaves put a roof on it and Fletcher furnished it. Falcao is currently giving it a bit of a paint job and looking after the guest rooms which are currently occupied by Evans, Jones and Smalling who are on a nice long holiday together.

Shame about Falcao but this makes the loan 'safety net' seem all the more worthwhile.

Hopefully it isn't a recurrence of the injury, but I'm not convinced. Maybe LvG will give more info tomorrow

This is my first game at OT this season so i'm pretty fukcing gutted Falcao isn't fit. Would like to see Wilson start ahead of RVP, who needs a massive boot up the arse, if you ask me.

If Falcao is not available, I think LVG should go with Rooney up top and Mata in a 10 along side ADM and Januzaj and Blind/Fellaini in CM.

RVP is a fantastic player and has had enough games to play himself into some form but, hasn't and so now it's time to drop him. We need to win this game and win it emphatically and need someone up top that will play with a lot of fire which at the moment RVP is not doing/able to.

There's talk in the papers, that van persie going to get dropped in place of Wilson.

I agree but, I'd rather see Rooney moved up top which opens the door for Mata over RVP. The other option would be to move there, bring Herrera back and move Fellaini behind Rooney.

    I'd like to see:

    ------------DDG
Rafael - McNair- Blackett - Shaw
    -----------Carrick------------
    Di Maria-----Mata-------Januzaj
    -------Wilson-----RVP--------

...but in reality, we'll probably stick with Blind in for Carrick, and definitely Rooney in for one of RVP or Wilson.

I say bollocks to Rooney, but I'm not the manager of Manchester United.

Blind, yes - I think he's been fine so far, not spectacular but certainly solid and I think there's better to come from him. Just feel he needs a rest as he's been involved a lot lately and would do Carrick some good to get a 90 minute run out.

Rooney, no I don't rate him so highly. I'm not a kneejerker who thinks he's terrible and shouldn't be at United, I just don't think his form over the past two seasons have warranted him to a) be captain thus play most games, or b) play anthing other than a role from the sidelines. Superb for us 2-3 seasons ago, but since SAF went he seems to have lost the plot somewhat. Always seems...pedestrian.

    Bit too attacking, no?
Was intended to be more a diamond formation but didn't work so well in print.

So Herrera had the misfortune to break his rib and he won't play for United again? If he doesn't play against Palace and no reason is given I will be worried. Everyone keeps saying he is the midfielder we have been missing but are now going nuts about a player who last season was useless. Also Januzaj has not done that much.

Our defence is a laughing stock. 2 clean sheets from the last 12 home games. I'll go for a nervy 2-1 or 3-2 win

Hererra will be back, but I don't think he'll be starting just yet. After an injury I always think players should have 1-2 games as second half substitutes. Fergie used to do it, 'easing them back in' I guess.

This feels like the game after the Chelsea draw and Liverpool and City defeats last season. I thought after we get those bad away games out of the way, our season really starts and Moyes can build up some form in the team, integrate Fellaini...And we lost to West Brom.
That gutless performance was a turning point for me wrt Moyes, if we lost this, I think I'll start losing faith in LVG too :(

Think something like this could really work. No loss of width, Di Maria central yet coming wide as he did in the games against QPR, Everton etc.

Wouldn't be disappointed to see us start Wilson, however i don't think we'll risk it seeing as we basically need this win or else.

Mata should impose himself on the palace defense and show he can control a game.
Mata had 3 games while Rooney was suspended, to stamp his name on the No.10 role.
He could not do it and in those 3 games was anonymous.
    LvG saw this.
The moment Rooney became available again, Mata was benched.

I think Mata's days are numbered and he will probably be sold within a year.

Ya, Mata was quite invisible in those games. I also think Mata missed Herrera and Falcao in those games. He is not at the level of rooney who can play with any team. Mata is very dependent on the players around him and he needs mobile and fast players who play at a fast pace and pass quickly. Which is why before we sell him it would be good to see him play in such a team against a lower quality opposition and see if there is some way we can fit him in. One thing we can't argue with is his quality and he also doesn't lack effort. So it would be good to see if there is a tactical way in which to extract the best out of him. If not then we say goodbye. He has to start this game, he might not have many more chances.

We played Palace away last season while they were in the midsts of their Pulis-inspired super-good form and we were in the midsts of Moyes despair, and beat them pretty easily.

We're better, and they're probably worse, should be an easy one.

a must win ! No time to feck with line-ups and all.

i have no idea who are good defenders for us anymore, anyone who has performed well in training should be included.

    --------------DDG-------------------
    Rafa/Valencia --- Carrick/Evans---Mc Nair/Evans/Blackett -----Shaw
    --------------------Fellaini------------Blind-----------------
    Januzaj------------------------------------------Di Maria
    --------------------------Rooney-------------------
    -------------------------van Persie/Wilson------------

If we haven't scored by 60 minutes, or are trailing, convert to this:

    -----------------------Blind---------------------
    ---------Fellaini----------------Di Maria----------
    ----------------------Mata----------------------
    ------------Rooney-----------van Persie/ WIlson-----------

I cannot stress this more - it's a must win ! Getting a draw or worse, a loss will drop us back to Moyes era, and the tam and fans will start losing faith in 'philosophy'.

I'm a bit worried about our makeshift defence, particularly on set pieces against the likes of Hangeland.

But this is a game we have to win.

They'll miss Jedinak. Not a world beater but he does a good job for them in midfield.
