I just want someone who actually can play as RB (not saying Vermijl is the right one but we need someone that is not Valencia or Rafael because they are not RB we want to have).
We need someone who is solid defending and still can push forward at times.
Rafael is not a bad RB at all to have when he is fit & available. we probably need to sign a good & experienced backup for him. Regarding Valencia, he was actually our best rated player in the city game by WhoScored. I don't think he made any defensive mistake (did he?), we should stick with him as our CB lineup is already so unpredictable & unsettled right now.

Valencia made defensive mistakes againt City, for example it were Valencia not knowing were he as a RB is suppose to be and what he should do that left Smalling with the situation where he made that idiot tackle that got him the red card.

    Januzaj? Really? He's useless.

Yeah think he has a good game in him, looked a little livelier vs city early on. At home against a ''weaker'' side he should show his quality if not, Mata comes back in. Think he gives balance if Di Maria is wide on the other side.

For Mata to play I'd go back to a diamond.

It's funny how fickle fans can be. Especially regarding Januzaj. I thought he played well against city, he was the only player willing to run at his opposite man and before the red card he was having a good game. He didn't exactly have the best of help with Valencia behind him. I want to see him played behind the strikers, where he can utilise his passing game a bit more. In terms of defence, I want to see Blackett and McNair get a game together. Neither has let us down, except Blackett's red against Leicester of course, but apart from that they have been solid. This has to be the turning point in our season. Get a big win against palace to take some momentum and confidence in to the Arsenal game because that will have a massive say on whether we finish top 4 or not.

Januzaj wasn't too bad against City I thought. The turn on the touchline where Clichy had to bring him down was exactly the sort of play we need from our wingers. Relieved pressure and won a free kick, and if he hadn't been fouled, would have been away for a counter.

Valencia was better in the second half but was caught positionally wanting a few times in the first half. With Smalling's red, Valencia had for some reason dragged himself into midfield failing to tackle a player with Fellaini, leaving a massive empty space in the right back position for Smalling to lunge into. There was a time he played Aguero onside too simply because he hadn't bothered to step up with the other defenders and keep in line. It's times like that where you can tell he's not a natural right back and it led to a red card in one instance, and a shooting opportunity for Aguero in the other. He should be fine against Palace as right back because we'll be expected to control possession and he won't be asked to defend as much. Hopefully he will overlap the winger a bit more too. I don't know if Van Gaal had told him to stay back vs. City but he seemed very reluctant to push on ahead of Januzaj when we had chances to attack down that wing.

Rafael for Valencia if fit and maybe Falcao for Mata with Rooney to number 10. Wouldn't mind seeing Januzaj have a go at the top of the diamond either.

Id like to see something like:

    ................De Gea
    Rafael - Carrick - McNair - Shaw
    .......... Blind........Fellaini
... Herrera .. Mata ....Di Maria
    ............. Rooney

I really think for now Carrick in defence is a must.
I am not a massive fan of the diamond.
I would really like to see Rooney play up front again. It feels like Van Gaal made a snap decision, saying he didnt like Rooney up front, but Id like to see him given a shot there, presuming Falcao isnt ready yet. But if RVP has to play up front then Rooney drops back into Mata's position.
Fellaini has to be more selective about when he gets forward.

Wilson is in fantastic for for the under 21's. If we play a diamond with 2 strikers we should play him up top i agree. A natural successor to RVP if he can continue his form into the first team.

All the big gun firing. Now we found the balance in the team with the 4-1-4-1 will we revert to a diamond ? I hope so, when we are in diamond Di Maria is more on the ball and Herrera cam play so we add two more players in the creation. Probably we'll have some problem on the counter but we'll cope with that. We're improving in the intensity, ball rententions and ideas in the team. Last two games, LVG did very well tactically as he tried new things so I hope we can win and smash them

"Warning: Are you sure you want to chose 6 midfielders?"
Says it all when 2 of them are going to be in defence. How on earth is this still going on? 10 games into the season and we're yet to establish a proper defence line because they're all constantly injured. I hesitate to make a prediction yet because I don't trust that there won't be any more injuries before that match.

Basically giving Herrera and Rooney free roles, but they have to be disciplined to understand when they need to cover on the right/left side respectively.

Also, It's meant to be Herrera on that right hand side and Rooney on the left.

If in case Falcao is unfit and Rafael is fit i will like to see the following starting 11..

    Degea
    Rafael--Carrick--McNair--Shaw
    Blind
    Herrera Dimaria
    Rooney
    Vanpersie Januzaj
*Januzaj playing on the left channel rather than Left sided Center forward and he will look much home in that position at this stage of his career than playing him on the right and Our Best Player can also play on his favorite Position and leaving Herrera and Rafa for right side which looked very promising pairing before the injury.

Give RvP some bench time and unleash Falcao on a poor defence. I think any hopes we have of getting top four is getting Falcao fit and scoring. Home games we should win comfortably are our best bet.

3 nil or 3-1 after a defensive brain fart. Evans or Rafael no doubt.

I am actually confused about the starting 11. For me Fellaini should start just based on the improvement and hunger he has shown in the past 3 matches. But against crystal palace at home we should be going with the most attacking team possible which can run rings around the palace defense. Best to start Ander, ADM Blind and Mata and Rooney and bash them. If that backfires and we need a goal or some stability we can then bring in Fellaini for Mata. Diamond is the way to go.

I've posted a team that I feel Van Gaal will play, but I'd like to see something like:

    De Gea
    Valencia - Carrick - Blackett - Shaw
    Blind
    Fellaini - Di Maria
Januzaj - Van Persie - Rooney

This formation will see Di Maria going back into his most effective position - left centre midfield, giving him the chance to pick the ball up from deep and drive into the left channel and use his great crossing ability, which would see Rooney cutting in and almost playing a second striker, whilst Januzaj keeps the width on the right. The formation could potentially turn into a 442, looking something like:

    De Gea
    Valencia - Carrick - Blackett - Shaw
Januzaj - Fellaini - Blind - Di Maria
    Rooney
    Van Persie

This is similar to how Madrid used Di Maria and Ronaldo last season, and I would want Rooney to adopt the role Ronaldo plays at Madrid, as I feel he'd pick up bags of goals.

is the game we finally match up McNair and Blackett together?

Starting with fear, then watching with amazement as they form an incredible double act that serves us well for 15 years

Can't see Carrick not playing at the back but I would love McNair and Blackett to start, it would be great to see and I really think Blackett deserves another shot, I think he has been great this season.

I would like to see something like this.
    De Gea
    Rafael----McNair---Blackett----Shaw
    -Blind-
    -Herrera---Di Maria-
    -Mata-
    -Rooney-----RVP-

Have to say though, if we don't take 3 points here, I think any hope I have of competing in Europe next year will be shot. It's Palace at home for gods sake.

Should really be won by a two or three goal margin.
No excuses not win. Shouldn't need a heavy heavy midfield here. Get the creative guys on and pen them back.

It's better to play specialist defenders in central defence than someone like Carrick. McNair and Blackett have impressed me this season and look like a great future partnership. Di Maria is better centrally where he will have more influence on the game and Mata is free to drift into the number 10 role when in attack.

I agree with giving Wilson a start - ideal game really for us to give him a real chance as a starter, and hopefully he'll perform to give LVG reward for his faith. So assuming Falcao (and others...) remain injured, then maybe something like:

    De Gea
    WHOMEVER---IS---FIT---Shaw
    Blind
    Herrera---Di Maria
    Mata
    Rooney---Wilson
Given Warnock started working the referee with the usual "decisions at Old Trafford" crap right from the post-match interview against Sunderland, I expect by 3pm any fouls from us will be jumped on by the ref, so I'd leave Fellaini out from the start. Also a game for Mata to show his quality, which surely can't be too much to expect at home to one of the likely relegation candidates.

Provided that Torquemada doesn't supervise training sessions this week I see a 5-0 win in the cards. Our two performances against Chelsea and City were much better than we're being credit for by the United moaners and haters out there. Roo has dusted off his customary meh performance upon his return from suspension or injury and if Louis returns Di Maria to a proper midfield position we'll destroy Palace.

With our injury table resembling a Red Cross tent in WW1, we’re limited in terms of who we can play at the back. This is particularly irritating because our defence is by far our worst attribute. That won’t improve until we manage to keep a regular back-four fit over a significant period of games. Even if we had the greatest defenders in the world, chopping and changing every single game would render them ineffective.

So, if Rafa is back, then I imagine we’re going to line-up like this:

    ------------De Gea
    Rafael--McNair--Carrick--Shaw
    --------------Blind
    -----Fellaini--------Di Maria
    --------------Mata
    --------Rooney---RVP

Not our best side, but surely enough to beat Crystal Palace at home. What strikes me is how unbalanced our team is when we field our best players – our squad is unbalanced in general. Everyone says we need a CB and a CMer, but I think we need a winger just as much. This would allow Di Maria to play as the most advanced of a midfield trio where I think he’s at his most influential.

We need to dish out a good hiding and this is an ideal game with some of there key players out. We need to go for it and not worry about our defence too much.

Our defence issues are ridiculous but I guess Carrick and Valencia will have to do. Januzaj, Fellaini and Mata give more options from the bench (possibly Falcao if back from injury). An alternative would be to put Rooney up front instead of Wilson and have Fellaini sit behind them, but really want to see what Wilson can do and whether he can step up, this would be a great game to do that. I see this as a potential QPR hammering, Di Maria has to get more central for these types of games, not seen the best of him recently.
