Lingard will be in for Mata from the sounds of things. Reckon Jones will start too, and don't think Gomes will (Caf on suicide watch)

Can't understand the arrogance of our fans on here thinking we are going to breeze this. It's going to be a very young United team after several changes which some are forced on us.

Be surprised if we win this at ease. I think it will be tight.

I think so too. It'll be absolutely huge for them to get a result against United at Old Trafford, so we shouldn't underestimate them. As long as we perform at our best, our talent should get us a good win.

i just dont think it is too much to ask for a trio of youngsters in greenwood, tuanz, and gomes to start. Think those 3 can easily start a still have an experienced enough of a team to win. If ole isn't starting gomes in a home game against a side from Kazakhstan not really sure when he will

beginning to get the feeling Ole regards this as of secondary importance. not a good move...

Because this is a side from Kazakhstan that isn't even leading their league? I mean FFS a team of our youth and experience should be expected to roll through this side. I still expect several experienced players to be playing alongside our youth players-which btw pretty much all of our youth players who we want to see start this game have been on the bench for EPL games already this season. So if our subs for EPL games aren't good enough to beat Astana at OT we have much bigger issues than most have thought.

Gomes hasn't even come on as a sub yet this season so I feel like he won't be starting this one, no matter what the opponent is. Definitely think he'll be a sub though, just hoping it isn't a shit 85th minute sub.

get what you are saying but for me Gomes has to start. Plenty of experience we can put around them with players needing fitness.

I thought i would never say this about a Europa league group game but i'm really looking forward to this game.

Having Tuanzebe,Greenwood getting starts with probably game time for Garner,Chong,Gomes and Dalot to make a return from injury will make this game a intriguing watch and hopefully the young players grab this opportunity with both hands and impress so much that Ole finally chooses young talent to start PL games over the likes of Mata and Matic.

It frustrates me how Lingard / Perreira get into our PL 11 and our European 11
Cause our selection options are shite

    Edit. Ideally I'd like

    Greenwood

    Rashford Gomes Dalot

    Garner Fred

    Young Maguire Tuanzabe AWB

    Romero

I have seen a near full strength team struggle Vs European minnows in the past. They can be drab affairs.

Just think how many changes we will make. It will effect the way we play.

Even against Astana? Gomes likes to drop back and get stuck in. Imagining that we won't need too much cover for our defence especially with Axel and Maguire being absolute beasts
Yeah. They'll be fired up to play at OT. Garner is too green and Fred hasn't shown he can be a leader in midfield. One or the other but not both.

Need to make changes for this game, they be up for this, so need to start quick, press, pass quickly, I can't see them handling it.

What ever team he puts out should get a result.

I think one of Fred or Matic will play. I think Fred looked better against Leicester, so we might see Matic here and Fred against West Ham. But I think it's more likely Ole sticks with Matic for the first team and gives Fred the start here. Hopefully next to Pereira and Gomes!

Actually a bit gutted that I'm gonna miss the first half. Always love the early season cup games because of all the rotation, really hoping that all of Tuanzebe, dalot, Gomes, Chong and Greenwood start. Also Garner to get subbed on. Basically this:

    Romero
    Dalot Tuanzebe Jones Rojo
    Matic Fred
    Lingard Gomes Chong
    Greenwood

Would be shocked though, almost definitely will be Mata starting ahead of one of Gomes or Chong to get more experience there for the result, then the other youngster subbing off the other that started. They have to prove they can be trusted first before Ole will start them all together IMO, which is fair.

Don’t think Ole will start Gomes, as he will give start to several of his preferred young/bench players who need some game time instead (probably Greenwood, Tuanzebe, Dalot, Fred and even Chong). He may get 20 mins as 2nd half subs if lucky though, hopefully.

There's an Icelandic international playing for Astana. Boyhood United fan, his whole family will be at Old Trafford "rooting against him". He reckons Astana has a decent chance getting something out of the game.

Ole probably needs a trophy this season to secure his position for another year. I think he’s untouchable this year but a trophy would stop any immediate pressure and be hugely positive.

A tour round Old Trafford or some megastore vouchers?
He beat England. He knows what it takes to be an underdog and win a match. He also knows what United have been like recently so it's definitely not unthinkable, at least not in my mind. I take no matchup for granted. Astana beat BATE on their way to qualifying. BATE are European veterans and beat Arsenal last season. The only other time they failed to qualify for a CL/EL group stage in the past 10 seasons was when Astana knocked them out as well.

You're asking for trouble with that midfield two, imo.
Why is Garner worse than Matic? What does Matic offer the team? Can he pass forward, does he score goals, does he tackle or intercept? Not much. The whole point of Matic is to stop us playing by passing the ball back to our centre backs all the time.

    Matic = utterly pointless player.
