the weather is going to play a big part in this game, forecast is torrential rain and wind gusting up to 70mph.
Same for both teams, who ever handles the conditions best will have the advantage.
    The cafs own Michael Fish.

Good point though, luckily we keep the ball on the deck mostly.

    Just had this email:
"Official Members can now buy up to 6 tickets for tomorrow night's match v FC Basel (Tuesday 12th September, kick-off 19:45)"... struggling to fill the stadium? :nervous:

Van Wolfswinkel is bang average, like really really average.

Im feeling quite indifferent to the CL, think this tournament has lost his spark and glamour in the past few years, very few enjoyable matches and shake-ups in hierarchy.

Lets just start with beating Basel with good football, has been a while again.
Bizarre that you are indifferent to the CL. Perhaps that stems from us not being in it recently? Can't see how you wouldn't want to be in it or care about it.

Mou is different to van Gaal, but I didnt enjoy our most recent CL campaign at all. We played some poor football against average clubsand went out early, yes surely that is also Champions League but what is fun about that? I enjoyed the EL much more last year, which was full of surprises, we played some good football, actually challenged and faced some teams with great passion and fan bases.

My biggest pro for CL is that it can keep our top players here and attract new top players, but I presume we donr have much to look for at the latter stages of this competition. It is not a bad thing, but Im also not really all that excited about it.

Posted in the Tickets thread as well, but work is sending me to Manchester from Monday through until Wednesday and with us being home, would love to take in the game. If anyone knows of or can advise on how to get ticket for the game, it would be appreciated

Mourinho’s confirmed that Fellaini didn’t train yesterday.

He also missed the trip to Stoke with a calf injury.

“Fellaini didn’t train yesterday. Let’s see if he can today. He’s more important to me than you can imagine

That's just because we haven't really been in it for years.

What exactly? I dont think is that weird, I know loads of Arsenal fans who dont really get excited by the CL anymore. It has lost a lot of its glory and is becoming more predictable and repetetive. Bayern-Real or Real-Dortmund, PSG-Barca, Bayern-Arsenal, Barca-Bayern okay we get it by now.

Hard to get excited when you know you lost in round of 16 every year, it become predictable and repetitive because the English club has been under-performing for the last 2-3 years so you see the same match-up almost every year, I hope this year one of the semifinalist will be from EPL

Excited for this game. Missed late night CL football!

I think the team will be the same as the one on opening day, except the obvious CB changes. We should win this and win it by a big margin hopefully.

Lukaku and Rashford will have their CL debuts tomorrow. Think both will end up scoring. Going with 3-0.

It would be nice for Shaw to get some minutes; but he's been stinking up the under-23s

Hasn't he been playing at centre back?
I have no idea; I just heard from someone that watched him play that he wasnt good.

You'd think that playing in the U-23s is for the sake of fitness, so maybe he isnt fit yet.

Wonder what we can expect from Basel? We should have enough to win this though.

Well I think you've hit the nail on the head when talking about Van Gaal. Our most recent campaign was properly shit and then we've also missed out several times so it's understandable you feel a bit dejected by it all but we're here on merit and ultimately this is THE competition.

Maybe it's an obvious thing to say but I've felt our champions league wins have been way more special than winning the league due to how relatively rare they are...and you have to be in it to win it!

I hope you fall back in love with it this year, the UCL needs United and we need it.

Basel's last game (they've lost 1-2 at home, with a centerback expelled at 53') formation, a 4-2-3-1, close to what they've been using lately, except for the #10 position that has been changing a lot (Zuffi played other games as #8, with Elyounoussi as #10):

    Vaclík
    Lang–Suchý–Akanji–Riveros
    Dié–T.Xhaka
    Steffen–Zuffi–Bua
    Wolfswinkel

Champions league is quality wise the best football competition in the world. The national leagues are the fabric that football is made of, but the CL is perfect dream stuff. Remembering United playing Juventus in 96, yearning so hard to be in there with the best teams, I can't turn of the buzz of challenging for that once more.

Basel is a good team with plenty of experience from the tournament, which is important. They've been hard to crack for us before, so it will be a tough test.

I've gone for this line-up, except Darmian for Blind (so we're only changing 2/4 defenders rather than 3/4)

I think we'll completely crush these mugs at the theatre of dreams, a huge footballing stage Basel will struggle to handle, in triumphant thumping style 1-0.
