All these formations are making me dizzy.

I looked at that formation and the first thought i had was 'what the feck is he doing putting rojo up front'
And why is Falcao in goal?

Looking forward to who's playing and in what formation. Hope all the new six signings make an entrance.

Everyone should be. Shaw was supposed to be four weeks out, right? Two of those have gone by, plus the two we have now. Falcao and Rojo to establish their work permit. Shaw could be the only doubtful one.

Picked well having this as my first trip up this season.

If everyone is fit, it's going to be truly mad having so many signings out for the first time in one game. Problem is gelling!

The phrase embarrassment of riches doesn't come close to describing it.

I really hope Shaw, Rojo, and Rafael are fit/available for this. Young, Evans, and Smalling are doing my head in.

Yes, I'm sure we'll bench our 30 million teenager.

    We'll play a 4-2-3-1-come-4-3-3.

    De Gea
    Rafael Jones Rojo Shaw
    Herrera Blind
    Di Maria Rooney Januzaj
    Falcao

I think Rooney can really thrive as a #10 where Fergie tried to play him, just off the shoulders of the striker. Being behind Falcao, I can see him getting goals and assists like crazy.

Van Gaal somehow finds a way to get Mata, Van Persie, Rooney, Falcao, Di Maria and Januzaj into the starting line up, and we end up winning 1-0 down to a Rio own goal, where he accidentally punts it into his own net after dribbling 20 yards.

Why not? We have numerous expensive players and Shaw is a long-term investment. We don't have to play him immediately, especially if he isn't at full fitness.

    Want to see:

    ------------De Gea----------
    Rafael--Jones----Rojo---Shaw
    -------------Blind-----------
    -------Herrera---Rooney-----
    --Di Maria-----------Januzaj-
    ------------Falcao----------

    Expect:

    ----------De Gea-----------
    ----Jones-Evans-Rojo-------
    Valencia---------------Shaw
    ---------Blind-Herrera-------
    ------------Di Maria---------
    --------Rooney--RvP--------

Either look much, much better than what we've seen so far though.

Way too attacking match would end 8-7. hard to get all our attacking talent into one side

    ----Rafa----Jones----Rojo-----Shaw
    --------------Blind
    -------Herrera-------Di Maria
    --------------Mata
    ----RVP/Rooney------Falcao

Won't happen but has them all playing in there best positions.

I think Di Maria from the wing would be amazing. Not fully sold on him being made for that central role yet.

Most likely is but will have to swap to wingers which will leave more attackers out of the squad and who will play other wing Januzaj which will drop 2 of Mata, Rooney,RVP and Falcao

I am staying in a hotel at Spencer Street, very near to the Melbourne Convention Center station..Very near to Crown as well, in walking distance...So they are definitely showing it in Crown, even at 1am?Im heading over there then!
I did not know when I first went to Crown with my mates on weekends night. One of them is Arsenal fan who have been here like 3years and he told and show me about that. There is a very nice spot with sofa near poki machines. You can go there, enjoy a bit and then watch the match.

Wish I live near City so we can hang out and watch the match together!

Surprised so many are not picking van Persie?

He simply has to play for me. Also is Mata going to be fit after pulling his hamstring? The forum really misses an up to date injury thread as we have so many it is hard to keep up.

Back with four at the back considering are full backs should be returning from injury and play 4-4-2 (diamond)

    ------------De Gea-----------
    Rafael---Evans---Rojo----Shaw
    -------------Blind------------
    -----Herrea---------Di Maria---
    -------------Mata(fit?)---------
    ------Falcao----------RVP---------

Rooney has no place in this team. If Mata is fit IMO he should get the nod in front of Rooney simply because he can link up with all the players in that team, offer more creativity, skill, drive etc. and again if Falcao and RVP are fit, no way Rooney should be sniffing in striker position unless he ups the anti of his game because it is poor atm. Dont care if he is captain.

I agree with you. Really disappointed with Rooney...Think Mata should play before him also. Although I reckon Jones or Smalling will play ahead of Evans and the diamond formation looks like a winner. With Shaw or Rafa overlapping depending on how the play is. Mind you LvG has already stated that his captain must play so lets see what happens.

Rooney has been poor so far but then again so has RvP. I've gone with Rooney because I think the combination of Rooney + Falcao will work better than Falcao and RvP.

Jones instead of Evans. He has been our best defender this season. Januzaj instead of Mata, this gives us more pace and potential width on both sides

So we could be looking at 4 debuts and a home debut against QPR? That's very exciting it has to be said.

I think we'll win but I think it'll be another struggle, it's going to take time for everybody to gel and although the new signings should give us a boost in confidence I think it'll take a while before we are fully firing.

You'd like to think though that in the time it takes for us to gel we have enough individuals who can provide moments of magic for us to win.

Can't fecking wait for this one! We could see 4 full debuts and a home debut for Angél. I'm hoping we'll blow 'Arry and his lot away, hoping we'll see something like this:

    -----------DDG----------
    Rafael-Jones-Rojo-Shaw
    -----------Blind----------
    ----Herrera-----Mata----
    Di Maria----------Rooney
    ----------Falcao----------

FT Result: Manchester United 1-2 Queens Park Rangers.

I doubt it will have any significant bearing on which system van Gaal opts for, but QPR also play 3-5-2, so the manager might decide to simply match up because we have infinitely better quality on the pitch.

In the long-run though, I think we should be transitioning toward the diamond.

Jones has loads of potential and has leadership qualities but atm he is not united's best defender this season. Due to this 3 at the back he's been all over the place. keeps getting caught out of position, chasing the ball when he shouldnt, passing ability needs serious working on etc. Thats why ive put Evans there, he's got experience and if Rojo plays who is a similar player to jones (aggressive), you gotta have a defender who reads the game more and sits back further than the other defender (sweeper role kinda)

and with this "diamond" formation you still get plenty of width with the full backs pushing up when attacking. Januzaj is future star to be reckon with but atm Mata is a player that can really pick out the strikers in the final third. Januzaj likes to take on players whereas Mata looks more for the pass. Can put them cheeky passes through, keep the ball moving and can score goals. For me i rate Januzaj more as a right or left midfielder who can really scare fullbacks with skill and balance.

I actually think this will be a really tough game. They have a really strong centre mid pairing in Fer and Sandro so we could get bullied quite a bit, though hopefully our quality finally shines through and we start playing some decent football.

Really anticipating this one. We are going to look like a whole new team (literally) and hopefully we'll smash 3-4 goals past them. Shaw, Herrera, Rojo, Blind, Di Maria, Falcao....Outstanding reinforcement really.

Well dont get your hopes up, one thing forming a top class players. Another is getting them all playing decent football which i have no doubt they will, but dont expect them to be an immediate effect.

True this. This team will take time to gel. Lots of it, too. We have some amazing individuals on the team, but they're players who've never passed the ball between each other. 5 out of 11 next week will have never worn a United shirt in an official match, so it'll take time before egos settle and this team learns to play together.

But we couldn't have picked a better run of fixtures to get things to gel. QPR, Leicester and West Ham, followed by an increase in difficulty with Everton. After that some more relaxation against WBA, before the big tests against Chelsea and City. The first 3 matches should be easy to win and the real challenge will be to let the players click on their own. I hope LvG gives them a creative license. Winning by a 1 goal margin against 3 relegation fodder teams with this squad should be easy. That's why the focus should be on getting these players to seamlessly link up. And like I already said, the easiness in these fixtures is perfect for that.

We can't give them a no pressure atmosphere forever. Fans will expect at least 1 win from the Chelsea and City back-to-backs, which will be difficult. That's why they need to put their money where their mouth is and not take it easy in these fixtures. The faster they click, the easier it will be to stand toe to toe with the big boys.

From here on out, we're out of excuses. It's results or bust.

At the very least, we'll witness some highly individually skilled players which is enough for me at this point. Taking time to gel is something obvious.

Due to Falco not playing much this season I would deploy him from the bench. My team would be 4-1-2-2-1:

    De Gea
    Raf, Jones, Rojo, Shaw
    ----- Blind
    Herrera , Di Maria
    Rooney Mata
    -----RVP

Defensively Blind would cover the marauding LB and RB. Rooney will drop in to make it a 4-1-3-2
