We don't need to worry about away goals because our objective is pretty straightforward - win and don't draw or lose. And with our imperious home form, I'd assume that record won't be ended by Sevilla of all teams.

    Team should be...

    ---------------De Gea---------------
    Valencia--Smalling--Lindelof--Young
    ----------Matic-------Pogba----------
    Mata---------Sanchez---------Rashford
    ---------------Lukaku---------------

Subs: Romero, Bailly, Shaw, Darmian, McTominay, Fellaini, Lingard
Not sure we want to have Pogba and Matic as a two man midfield - one away goal on the break could be bad news..

At the beginning of the season I reckoned making the final 8 was a realistic goal and something that would have to be considered a success. I'm confident we'll get it done on Tuesday.

If we play like we did against Liverpool we'll run this lot off the pitch, that's for sure.

Valencia Bailly (if fit) Lindelof Shaw
    Matic McTominay
Mata Sanchez Rashford/Martial (depending on fitness)

I think rather than Lindelof and shaw, Smalling and Young will probably start. But that would be my team. I feel like Mata and Sanchez have the potential to work very well together, especially in a game where we should have more possession like this.

    I will go with:
    De Gea

    Valencia Bailly Smalling Young

    McTominay Matic POgba

    Sanchez Lukaku Martial

Lindelof for Bailly - if Bailly is not fully fit to play another 90 mins. And yes Martial and POgba in for this one. I believe, we will have more ball possession for this one, and trust POgba and Martial to do more damage to them.
    Result Prediction: 2-0 Win.

Really important match this. Not progressing to the next round will be disastrous. I hope we play positively and not look to grind out a narrow 1-0 or 2-1 win. We must take this game to them and punish them or else they will start to feel confident like in the first leg. I felt in the first leg we gave them too much respect, shouldn't be doing that here. Jose must be careful and not play with fire here by defending a narrow lead.

Would really like to see this. Maybe Sanchez for Mata, though.

Desperate to see Pogba as a 10.

P.S. You better change McTominay and Matic around, otherwise @Android1974 will go bonkers. :D

It'd be extremely harsh for Jose not to play Rashford after his last couple of games.

Yeah I think we need to keep Rashford's momentum going. We have a big game against Brighton for Martial to play in.

Desperate for Pogba as #10, why? Now I've heard it all!

P.S.: but I'm going bonkers for a reason; if you check other teams average positions, for instance Sevilla, you notice Banega and N’Zonzi overlapping in a way you can't really tell one is playing in the left and the other right of midfield, while in our midfield you can always ascertain a side, and it's always the same, so when people misplace players, it's like they're not paying attention, like they don't care…:wenger:

Rashford starting will probably depend more on Pogba's (and Martial's) availability or not. Against Liverpool, Mourinho was so sure of his tactical decision to go long for the Lukaku-Rashford connection, he had practically no attacking option the bench, besides Fellaini's headers and Lingard's quickness. I very much doubt the same will happen with Sevilla.

Just want to see how he gets on further up.

We've looked to have a good balance in a 4231, with Matic and McTominay as our double pivot. Would like to see how Pogba is slightly above them two.
Sorry, right now, until Pogba gets his head straight and starts performing defensively as he should, instead of tweaking the 4-2-3-1 by playing Pogba as #10, you just go 4-3-3 with Sánchez/Mata/Lingard drifting from the right to the center like it happens in 4-2-3-1 anyway.

Nothing to do with him defensively. Pogba was fine defensively when he came on against Sevilla and Chelsea. Just want to see what he's like behind the forward, with two solid defensive midfielders behind him.

Sevilla was a midfield three and Chelsea that awkward formation, 4-2-2-2. I find it strange wanting to see him so further ahead, as you mentioned it didn't work particularly well Liverpool away last season, nor does he seem in any way fit for that specific job, but we'll see.

Going to be nervous because if they get a goal, we are in trouble because of the away goal rule.

I totally agree. We haven't seen him in a number 10 role yet and I think that's where he fits into the formation we used against Liverpool with two defensive midfielders behind him. The question is who makes way? It should be Sanchez IMO because he's out of form and that same team I think we'll cause Sevilla a lot of problems.

I don't see why you would find it strange. People have wanted Pogba to play in a three, mainly to give him more freedom. He'd get plenty of that with Matic and McTominay behind him. Yes, he has played in a three, but it's different. He still needs to get back and defend his side. Whereas, as a 10, you press the centre back, then when they get through the first phase, drop back as an 8. Pogba is more than capable of doing that.

Going to the Liverpool game, thankfully we don't form an opinion based on one game, otherwise based on Sanchez's performance as a 10 against Liverpool yesterday, he wouldn't be playing there again.

He needs to be played there a lot more times before we make an accurate assessment. Also, that day, the front four was Ibrahimovic (ST), Rashford (RM), Young (LM) and Pogba (CAM). The balance was awful and as we know, Ibrahimovic doesn't stretch the game like Rom does for us.

Not saying it would work, but with the set up we saw yesterday, but with Pogba as a 10 instead, it would be very interesting to see how he'd get on.

Exactly. With Matic and McTominay behind. a 4-3-3 is different to 4-2-3-1 because in that formation Matic is the only DM and Pogba and McTominay have to share offensive duties but here Matic and McTominay are a solid double pivot and the main thing is to supply the creative players. McTominay's positioning is more central and deeper in the 4-2-3-1. Along with Matic they hardly crossed the halfway line against Liverpool.

Think we should be looking to win this one with a 2 goal margin. Shutting up shop with a single goal margin would be risky stuff. If Sevilla were to equalise, regaining our attacking flow against a parked bus would be a monumental task

No doubt Rashford has been in terrific form. But, Sevilla will stay deep and there wont be much space behind. I feel Martial could do better in such case. We need someone in the bench to take advantage of tired legs, thats where Rashford can help us more.

Jose will/ should drop Alexis for Jesse Lingard for this one. Or at a minimum sub him early if his atrocious form continues. Otherwise rest of team unchanged

Same team as against Liverpool but change Mata for Fellaini, Pogba as a reserve because we need to be able to attack and defend which is a concept he doesn't seem to understand.

I can see Pogba being on the bench for this even if fit.

Exact same line up as Liverpool, but hopefully with Pogba, Lingard and Martial as options off the bench instead.

Mata will be needed for ball retention, Sanchez despite not making much of an impression seems undroppable and Rashford has earned his place.

Possibly Pogba for McTominay, but again he doesn't deserve to be dropped after his performance on Saturday.

Highlights of sevilla playing against Valencia on saturday. Sevilla made many chances and probably were very unlucky to lose 0-2. They are an attacking team who i think will have more posession than us, they also leave gaps especially in fullback area. They have fast and tricky playes and we will have to be very careful not to give away a penalty. Their finishing is usually a bit hit and miss.

They are a strange team, they gave barca one of their very difficult games earlier in the year, but also get spanked sometimes.
I expect them to not be very forward thinking, being compact and trying to hit us on the counter when we attack. It is very important to play pacey defenders, if their full backs push on, we need to be very quick to exploit that space.

Sevilla will play i think this team-

Rico; Mercado, Kjaer, Lenglet; Sarabia, Nzonzi, Banega, Escudero; Vasquez, Correa and Muriel.

    ---------------Rico------------------
    Mercado------Kjaer-----Lenglet------Escuerdo
    ------------Nzonzi-----------Banega-----------
    -----correa--------Vasquez---------sarabia----
    ----------------Muriel---------------------------

The biggest problem sevilla face is that Jesus Navas is injured, they will have to reshuffle the defense, layun who played there against valencia is not registered in europe. Corchia is injured and wont be available. so they will have to play Mercado in right back and Kjaer or Nzonzi in centre back

They may play pizzaro instead of correa and play 3 in the middle. Kjaer is great in air, i think Lukaku will need to be on top of his game to be winning things in air. They have Nzonzi and Lenglet both of whom will also be decent in the air.

I think we should take long shots in this game as Rico has habit of dropping them infront of him or isnt able to palm them away to safety, leaving the ball in dangerous areas.

Need to attack mercado(out of position) and kjaer who is a bit slow, Rashford or Martial on the left is absolute necessity. Nzonzi will mark sanchez, so it is very important for him to keep nzonzi busy and keep him away from dominating in the middle. Lukaku has to try and take Kjaer on for pace and power.

Hmm.. last time was it Correa? who give our Antonio Valencia handful of problems?

Their wing plays are very good, thankfully finishing not so much but it's another home game and our two FBs are on top form defensively.

    We got this.

It's frustrating to see how shite they've been in their league knowing full well they'll be a totally different prospect in this.

Reckon it'll be tight for the most part but ultimately we'll see it out.

    2-0 (Lukaku, Fellaini)

Still maintain we should have shown more ambition in Seville.
A lot is riding on the first goal imo.
    And there lies the problem.
We could fall into the trap of being too worried about conceding first.
