I hope Fred is no where near this game. He is a liability in midfield and incompetent when he gets near goal. Problem is we are so short of talent to replace him so he keeps getting picked.

We need to win, lose and we're 10 points behind Spurs with a game in hand and then play Chelsea at the weekend.

I thought at the beginning of the season we'd put our eggs in the EL basket for CL qualification next season. I expected us to still be pushing top 4 before the WC though, two losses this week and we're done imo.

Can’t see us winning here. The points dropped against newcastle and a loss here is going to increase pressure on ETH before the chelsea game. Spurs looks stronger in all department
I can't see us winning against a Spurs side which will most definitely park the bus and counter with Son and Kane. Likely a draw or Spurs win.

With our current form in front of goal, we won't make the most out of the one or two good chances we create, while Spurs will do exactly that. Hoping for the best though...
To be fair, with the exception of Europa League fodder, the match day thread 'can't see us winning' any football match ever before it kicks off.

I'd take no losses. Esp without Eriksen and Martial, we don't have much of a chance to win honestly imo.
I'll take a win and a loss over two draws. Points are the only thing that matter.

Two wins here and we'd be title contenders. I can't see it happening unfortunately but here's hoping.
Even with two wins I don't think that makes us title challengers. Our top level this year is top four and do well in the cups. ETH hasn't even reached 20 games in charge.

Thought we had turned a mini corner after beating Pool and Arsenal. Wasn't too bothered about City except for getting thrashed. But with Martial being injured as per usual and Ronaldo just not being in form, we are not getting top 4 until we get a proper no. 9 and probably another mid. Next year, not this year is when we can get back into top 4.
City, Arsenal, Tottenham and Chelsea. I though pool will catch and get ahead of us. Top 6.

Very comfortable win here, lads it's Spurs and they have been too decent anyway.

Yeah I agree. I'm of the thinking that we miss out on top 4 because of our imbalances and poor goal return so far, rather than the other teams being that much better.

Hopefully the glaring weaknesses are addressed again next summer. As you say, at least one striker and a CM should be priority.

We are without both Kulusevski and Richarlison which isn't great but it almost certainly means we will change formation to a 5-3-2 with Bissouma starting.

We don't need top 4 next year. Top 5 is enough.

Very true. It actually became a meme for awhile that every lineup the matchday thread liked or was confident in lost, and the inverse whenever they hated a lineup or thought we were going to get thrashed. Most evident in the post SAF 2010's

As for Wednesday, it's the same as my thoughts on the weekend. We win and do so comfortably if Martial starts. If not, it'll be scrappy and can go either way, especially since Conte is going to bring out the biggest bus he has with Richarlison and Kulusevski both out.

Martial will be nowhere near playing on Wednesday. We need Varane, Eriksen and an on form Rashford are a must against Spurs. Son is the danger with his pace. ETH is a big fan of Fred, I have no idea why, he is a liability to the team. I hope Bruno will just play football instead of moaning and whining for 90 minutes.

If we fail to make the CL this year, Adidas will reduce the money the pay the club by 30%, in addition to losing out on CL prize money. All of this could easily total €60M or more. And that's if the rest of the sponsorship deals don't also have an included CL clause.

Not if top 5 gets the CL.

We need to win the midfield here, i would play 4-3-1-2 here, specially if Martial is ready.

    --------------------DDG
    --Dalot Varane Martinez Shaw
    -McTominey Eriksen Casemiro
    ------------------Bruno
    ----------Rashford Martial

This system should be ideal against Tottenham if they attack with their 3-4-3 system. McTominey helping Dalot when then attack on that side while Casemiro does the same with Shaw on their side. Eriksen gets a free roll to diktade the play for his central deeper position while Bruno helps Rashford and Martial to press the defenders. Key will be to win a lot of the duels and first and second bal in the middle, get it fast to Eriksen/Bruno who needs to try to find Rashford behind the defenders or Martial who should be dropping and playing little more of a target player so we have time to move up our fullbacks, Eriksen, Bruno and one of Casemiro or McTominey.

If doesn't work after 60-65 min, we go back to our usual 4-2-3-1 by throwing in Ronaldo or Sancho (or both) and take out one of Casemiro/McTominey and Rashford/Martial.

But, we need to win this one, we can afford to play to many draws, we need to stick to the top 1-6 now while we have the chance and everybody is loosing points against each other.

We beat this Spurs side 3-2 with Conte in charge last season at OT.

We are a better side now than we were then. They have improved too but not by a huge amount.

I think United will edge it 2-1

We must provide better service for Ronaldo up top, and if we do, we can with this.

Ronaldo did have an incredible game last season with a hat-trick, not sure he can do that again.

Hopefully some of our attackers can gel better on the night tomorrow, we're due goals.

Agree on Ronaldo, but if Martial is back and we play Rashford (who always links up well with Martial) I can see us causing them problems. I'd consider dropping Bruno to the bench so the midfield can be Casemiro, McTominay and Eriksen (if fit), because I think that 3 together would win the midfield battle.

I've slagged Spurs off so much under Conte, but honestly I fully think they'll beat us  :nervous: they're setup perfectly to do so. Disgustingly negative, with actual threat that does the job on the break from just a few chances. I am dreading it.

Hopefully Martial is fit, Fred is nowhere near the starting lineup, and Rashford is at it.

Spurs will be the type of game where we struggle the most. They play really dirty under Conte.

I hope we try to match them physically and play Casemiro, McTominay and Eriksen in the middle.

    -------------------------Casemiro------------------------

Even if Martial is passed fit! I think he needs to stay fit and be involved in training for a week or 2 before he plays an actual match again...

It's getting silly how many injuries he is picking up, smacks of rushing him back for a quick fix.
