Donny isn’t a CDM and Mata is far too lightweight and slow to play in the central role.
Lingard is invisible and a disgrace.
Thats all of our central spine.
Two young inexperienced lads on the flanks, struggling to even get into the game and physically struggling.
Since our goal, we’ve been a shambles.
I can’t see us turning this around with just kids on the bench, unless something special happens.
Are we back to Ole time again, relying on moments?

Donny has been alright but 2 starts in deep midfield, west ham and tonight, and 2 goals he is at least partially responsible for.

Bailly has been great again. You always know there is a clanger round the corner which is a real shame.
But the same is true for Maguire and Lindelof. Once in a while Harry will concede a goal from a heavy touch, while for Lindelof it's his passivity.

I don't get the VDB's been good despite the blunder narrative. Lots of back passes when he wasn't under pressure.

Wan Bissaka isn't getting his place back. Given his general attitude tonight I don't think he cares either.
His lack of finesse on the ball was always evident. It was very clear that when we signed him it was for his defending not for what he provides in the attacking third but even his defensive side didn't really improve since he's been here. Truly he has been exposed defensively as with Palace he could just stay back and wait for the counter and here he has to watch out for his positioning since we bring the game to our opponents and most of the time he gets lost.

You expect control with our second string who barely play and kids? Even our first team wasn’t up to it in Young boys.

And you can’t tell we are suppose to be up by like 3? You probably not watching the game anyways.
Yes, I expect control. Of course I do. What young okayers do we have? Greenwood, Amad and Elanga? They are attacking players, and the former has arguably been our best player. We should be building and sustaining attacks better.

Also, you're right, we should have about 3 goals but that doesnt mean we're controlling the game. Its like a basketball game.

Listen to Rangnicks comments after the Arsenal match. He said its good for the neutrals and it was positive that we scored 3 goals but we lacked control. Thats exactly what's happening tonight. To say otherwise would suggest possibly you're the one not watching the game.

First instance AWB in acres of space heads the ball unnecessarily so he doesn't have to control the ball under pressure, does well to drift inside and win it but once again wants no part of the ball and is caught on his heel when a pass comes his way. VDB and Matic should have dealt with it among themselves but this is why you don't need passengers on the pitch.

Don't paint them all with the same brush. Mata has mostly been good, 2-3 misplaced passes but he's not played in decades. VDB has kept things quite composed. Greenwood has been very good. It's the wide areas that have been problematic.
Disagree completely. The problem has been the midfield. The amount of empty space in the centre is huge. Nothing connecting the defence and the attack. One of the 4 ahead of VDB needs to be taken out and Matic pushed up into cm to help Donny who is really struggling defensively.

I've almost never heard this word used in real life, yet on this Forum, everyone's at it. it's almost like a spelling bee:

    Use Egregious in a sentence.

We haven’t been that bad and could have scored 1 or 2 more easily. I don’t see any reason why you won’t won’t if we keep it up.

AWB is as much to blame for their goal as VdB.
Lingard & Mata should be subbed.
Fair play to RR for picking a scratch team though. Most new managers would have gone for the handy win and picked a strong side.

    Thoughts so far:
-Bailly channeling his inner Canavarro tonight.
-This game is way too chaotic for me!
    - Expected more from the experienced heads....Lingard and Mata not too good so far

We should be leading 2-0 here. Our play is being let down by loose passes and heavy touches. I expect those from AWB, but Lingard really should be playing better with the opportunity he has been given.

It was a bad mistake from VdB for their goal. It needed a spectacular finish to punish that mistake, but he has to keep it tidy around our box at all times. To be fair to VdB, he has moved the ball well in midfield as Mata is clearly the one instructed to spread the ball.

Speaking of spectacular finishes, Mason's was exactly that. He has had a fantastic game and should probably take Rashford's spot if he continues in the second half. Glad Shaw got an assist, good to see him recover well.

Not really bothered by the result here. Hope the youngsters come on in the second half.

We’ve made 11 changes. He’s resting our first team and assessing the squad and youth players. Lower your expectations.

Poor mistake by VDB, which was a result of a mistake from AWB, but posters are overreacting about him.
Maybe it's me but I thought AWB could have done more to fight for the ball after VdB's poor pass.

Seems like we are playing more a 4-1-4-1 formation rather than the 4-2-2-2 from Sunday against Palace

How is Mata still at the club, has to come off if we are to have any chance of winning this.

The game was always going to be a bit of a mess once saw the line up and taking into account most of the team have hardly played all season.

Just seen the goal, bad pass by Donny. But what the hell was AWB doing there, not moving at all, could've easily gotten the ball, but instead he was just standing there not expecting anything

The answer to your AWB question was he was out of position, pretty much like he has been most of the half. He has been terrible

matic has looked very comfortable at CB, I like how Donny has worked hard but have to say I'm surprised Ralfie has made so many changes in only his second game
Why? These players have barely had a kick of the ball all season, some not even one bit. This is a dead rubber game and the only time the fringe players and kids can play because from now on all our games are pretty much must win.

Out first eleven needs a rest and come back refreshed. They already played back to back games so some chemistry is there already.

Not really, we should have at least 2 goals, 3 not a stretch. Mase squares to Amad instead of looking for Mata then it is 2 for sure.

It has been sloppy in places, not shambolic though.

I'm still an AWB believer but I'd blame him first as well, that header is basic defending 101. Put it out. VDB got it fizzed into him point blank from Matic and probably should have just tried to buy a foul or just hoofed it out for a throw, comedy of errors all round and a ridiculously good finish.
