Ehh I'm pretty optimistic. I think we have a pretty easy run in to finish the season. More worried about both the Brighton games than Newcastle.

That’s the spirit! Let’s all call for ETH to be sacked if we fail to win :)
Are you implying this is what I meant? I just think it's pathetic to be signing up for a draw when we outplayed them in the League Cup final and ETH has had over a week to tinker to the tactics in which we outplayed them in the league cup final.

but Casemiro played in that one

Yep and Almiron their leading goal scoring and best attacker played in that one too and he'll be missing for them in this one.

and their defense has been leaky, allowed a goal in 8 straight

Im going for a draw on this one, if we cant beat Southampton at home we havent got much chance of beating Newcastle away although I would love us to beat them with a dodgy goal after we were robbed against them earlier this season with a perfectly good Ronaldo goal ruled out.

Casemiro is a big loss as is Eriksen and those 2 being missing at the same time leaves us with very little quality in the middle so Newcastle will be able to over run us and probably get many scoring opportunities.

didn't realize we are playing with 10 in this one and that the ref and var are gonna refuse to look at 2 clear cut penalties or that a Bruno shot is gonna take a lucky bounce for them and not go in.

They have had over a week as well. And will be well up for it; not least from having been well beaten at Wembley. I don’t think it’ll be easy for us at all, and think it’s totally unrealistic to demand a victory at a difficult away ground at the best of times.

We managed only 4 shots on target in 90+ minutes at home against a really poor Southampton side, thats hardly the fault of the Refs or VAR

Wow, that’s brutal. Numbers you’d expect from say a team playing with a player less than their opponents.

We didnt play the whole game with 10 men Casemiro was sent off in the 34th minute, we had done very little before that and it was only still 0-0 because De Gea pulled off a couple of really good saves.

They should put up links to the samaritans and mental health helplines on these match day threads, the way some of ye go on.
Newcastle are muck, we'll win this by 2 clear goals. Bet Maguire scores too, just to annoy us..

The way I see it, most likely it will be a draw. We are the better team and beat them relatively easily for the cup, so they would definitely want to avoid a loss at home. Ad to that their generally negative tactics and that they will miss their top scorer, I think it will park the bus for a very boring 0:0. We might nick it, but it will be a game of a very few opportunities.

Difficult to predict what team plays in front of a pretty solid back 5. ETH giving nothing away as you would expect. Bruno will be one, certainly, but so much doubt about the other five.

I hope this match is not reminiscent of the 91-92 season where we beat Nottingham Forest in the league cup final( Rumbelows Cup back then) and then lost to them in the league around Easter time at Old Trafford 2-1.

I saw an interview with Gary Pallister recently and he said "that was the match where he knew after the result, that they were going to lose the league. "

We have not played as well as usual lately, and without both Casemiro and Eriksen I fear we will lose this one.

If we deliver what we can deliver. We are in for a good win. Missing players hurts but we still field a decent side no matter. It's a chance for the non regulars to shine. I also trust the boss to get a result with whatever team he picks because that is what he does.

"Christian Eriksen is back on the pitch, not yet in the team training but I expect him in the coming week, [or] weeks, back in team training so will be available for games again.
”He (Rashford) returned back into the team training on Friday so we are quite positive that he's available for Sunday. So, of course, we are happy with that because he's a very important player for us."
”There were no injuries, luckily, from the internationals. That's always a concern as a manager when the players leave you, how you get them back and, especially, in this stage of the season when it comes to the end, to the final stage."
Varane & Sabitzer should be fine. :)

I wouldn’t really equate the prediction of a draw, away vs a top 4 rival, to assuming we’ll lose every game. In fact a lot of people predicted a win against Liverpool and almost nobody thought we wouldn’t beat the likes of Southampton, Leeds and Palace.

We got some great results over the last few months but we haven’t always looked convincing. We should play to win against Newcastle, and I’m sure we will, but a draw would not be any kind of shock.

We should play this like the final, let Newcastle have a lot of the ball and watch them be entirely hopeless with it.

I think we have to win this game. The more distance we put between 5th now, the more we cam focus on cup games in the future and risk a draw. I say this, I think we will come away with a score draw which I also wouldn't be disappointed with.

I'm not sure if been mentioned already, but does anyone feel like our team has finally had a rest after months. I think none of our players played 180 mins during international window. Bruno managed to get off at 75th min on the Sunday, so he has a full week for first time since the WC. Rashford will obviously be back, has had 2 weeks off. Varane is retired, Dalot played but he needs the minutes, Sabizter played a full 90 on the first game and nothing in the second. Antony didn't play, although he probably does need minutes and Sancho well, never plays for England anymore. I feel like there should be a new energy around this team thanks to some well needed match day rest.

Those few thrasings we've had away from home this season make me nervous about this game.

We lose form due to accumulation of games pretty obviously. Will be a tough game as this is a must-win for Newcastle really, but I'd expect some increased form from us the next few weeks as the international break was great for us in terms of key players getting a rest. Should be fresh for this next little run but until the end of the season we are playing every mid week and every weekend.

Brighton drew and Liverpool hammered. A Man United win tomorrow would be a serious result now after today's results.

We lost that league long before then mate, as that final was April 12th, as we won the next game, and prior to it, we won just 5 from 15 games, and over all we won 7 matches since Jan 1st out of 21, too many draws in Feb and March is when we lost it.
