I can see Fellaini starting and Matic and Martial on the bench .. ultra defensive.. mourinho is a big game manager

    David
    Valencia Smalling lindelof Blind Darmian
    Pogba Herrera Fellaini
    Lukaku Rashford

    Maybe Jesse will start too..

I'm just excited to talk about actual football again and not just transfer speculation! :D

Of course if Bale doesn't play then the rumours will really start flying after the match.

This cynicism towards mourinho is hillarious.

I think we'll have good posession too, It wil be really like the first half against madrid in the preseason friendly.

Matic and herrera in midfeild do change things, also in dont think we are good enough to score on counter attack, we aint clinical enough, Without some posession our attack is not funtional to good levels

That's my worry, we will set up to play it but not actually be very successful at it. It is my main concern for the season ahead, not just counter attacking but attacking in general as
I still think we will score less than the other top teams in the league. Anyway enough of my pessimism I just hope we make a good account for ourselves tonight and play our best players.

Why so negative all the time...gee whizz!

I'm going for a 2-1 win to United. That being said though, I can also see a red card in this game. If it's not one of ours, we'll win this.

I don't know whether it's kidology with people saying they don't really care about this game. But every game is the same for me, I just want a good performance and a win.

A loss always feels like the same loss to me, whether it's a pre-season game, a one-off game like the SuperCup or Community Shield or a competitive match. The significance of the game just determines how long it takes to move on from it.

    Anyway, come on United!

That would be too many players. ;)

I think Matic will start since he needs minutes to prepare for the season and Fellaini will be a sub. Fellaini is used in a more advanced role anyway so if it's defensive that Jose wants, Matic will start.

I don't get how people can say WHU in the PL is a bigger game than this. In 20 years time will people look back at the West Ham game or beating Madrid in the SC final?
What? Who cares about this so called super cup?
I'd rather draw vs WHU and lose this one, than win tonight and lose on sunday.

No more than a preseason match for me, hope José puts on a B side.

If we beat West ham won the league by two points will any Utd fan look back on this game and say I wish we would have won the super cup instead ?

There's no way this game is more important than the league .

He played for Chelsea against Bayern in the same competition. He lost a crucial penalty and that marked the beginning of the end of his Chelsea career. Jose was not exactly impressed with his attitude back then.

Let's hope it will be a different story this time around.
That's a long time ago and many experiences have happened since then. Lukaku is now a man and has matured. But just like Pogba last year, he'll need to learn and adapt to being a Manchester United player and a first-time CL participant leading the line for said Manchester United.

I am calling a 2-1 United win on this.

We will be too fit, too motivated and too ambitious for Madrid in this game.

Defending in wide areas proactively is key against madrid, Our midfeild is on par with their's so both teams wil cancel each other out in the midde.

People keep posting similar lineups, and while I can't say there's no chance, I can't imagine how we'd create much from wide this way. If we had a better LB who could bomb forward and put in the crosses then maybe, but Darmian isn't doing that, and Valencia might be a little too preoccupied on the other side.

I expect a very boring match from our side, Mourinho will set a very defensive tactic. Real Madrid will have most the ball, they will win by 1 goal, scored by either Ronaldo or Ramos from a header.

Winning against Madrid does do a great deal for our confidence. And I can't quite equate this to a pre season friendly in the US. It's weird but losing this doesn't mean much but winning it somehow does do quite a bit for me.

Really? Quite the opposite for me. Losing this would be pretty dissatisfying and sort of a confirmation to the team that loses that they aren't as good as they thought they were. Winning it won't do much (but avoid the shame of a loss)

Yeah. Because I expect us to be quite a bit behind Madrid so losing won't mean much. Doesn't mean I won't be upset, but can brush it off as it as a realistic outcome and can hope for improvements as the season gets rolling. Winning and actually beating Madrid would probably give the team a mini momentum going into the season and the excitement even if unfounded will build.

Also, the WH game is definitely much bigger than the freaking super cup for me. That's the actual PL. No one cares about your super cup trophies..
