I'd love to see a team like this

DDG, Valencia, Bailly, Rojo, Young, Pereira, Fred, Pogba, Martial, Lukaku, Chong

The midfield could be very exciting, I'd love to see Chong given a start especially with Europe being less physical.

Greenwood too from the bench, it would be a great experience.

Mou will probably say that this is a vad thing for us.
I’m basically done with Mourinho now, but feck me am I even more done with all these Straw Mourinho arguments all over the place. It’s tiresome.

This is arguably our last big chance to rest first-team players before the Christmas period and with Liverpool at Anfield on the weekend, it's pretty much guaranteed there will be wholesale changes. Liverpool have to go full throttle against Napoli, so we might have a chance at a result there if we have the right players fit and ready.

I expect to see Romero, Dalot, Rojo, McTominay, Pogba, Fred, and maybe A.Pereira given the chance to start here. The rest depends on who's fit, as if Bailly is fit I think he'd start over Jones (unfortunately I believe Smalling & Jones would be José's preferred choice against Liverpool with Lindelof unlikely to be ready by then). The more 'current first-XI' players I think we'll see here are Shaw and Lukaku, possibly Rashford or Lingard:

    Romero
    Dalot Bailly Rojo Shaw
    McTominay
    Fred Pogba
    A.Pereira
    Lukaku Rashford
    ---
Grant; Darmian, Jones; Fellaini, Herrera, Mata; Lingard
Lukaku and Rashford starting is something I'd like to see given they both managed some end product in the last few games with goals and assists. While they're producing, they should keep playing and hopefully provide the goods when we face Liverpool. I personally think Dalot wouldn't be exposed to Anfield just yet, so I'm more-so expecting Ashley Young to be saved for that game at Right Back. Antonio Valencia could be used in this game, or maybe from the bench, but for now, I'd say it'll be Darmian to sub on for Shaw and Dalot gets the 90 minutes. Fresh midfield as I think Matic & Herrera +1 play against Liverpool (probably Fellaini). I'd say no de Gea, Young, Smalling, Matic, or Martial in the squad to give them the best chance of being fully ready for Liverpool.

As for this game, I wouldn't even be bothered if we lose as long as Lukaku/Rashford play well and we take no further injuries (especially to Shaw). I'll say 1-1, though.

Hey, its not a reach to presume that Mourinho will say something in the line of "Liverpool had the momentum from a competative match going into this one"

I am not 100% sure what a straw argument is btw so sorry if i misunderstands.

Fred and Pereira should play for this one.
Would like to see Pogba and McTominay too, would be a cool diamond midfield with these 4.

:rolleyes:Idc if Mou said he will, he did go against what he promised some games before,
eg. iirc promised to play Bailly in a CL game but no, lies. And Pereira being promised to play some cup game iirc, but again no.

Won't surprise me if he'll bench Pereira again for this game, and using some bs creative spin of justification "we need to respect Valencia" or "we need momentum and sharpness before Liv" etc.

    ---

Greenwood, Chong and Gomes on the bench at least. One of Chong/Gomes perhaps to start.

Our defenders have injury crisis lately, time to bring in some fresh new youth defenders for this one?

We have an upcoming 6 series of games next as usual, heavy schedule with few days of rest in between.
About 6 games in 18 days, so that's about 2 games every week with 2-3 days rest in between two games, rough estimation.
Expecting our defensive unit to have fitness and injury problems in this time.

    Romero
    Dalot Bailly Jones Darmian
    Pereira
    Fred Pogba
    Mata Lukaku Lingard

Hopefully Martial can get some minutes off the bench. Jones and Bailly could do with another 90, same for Lukaku.

Dont think Dalot will play at anfield at all, maybe off the bench for an attacker. He's a liability defensively at this point. Probably darmian and co and trying to grind out a draw or a goal on the counter at Anfield.

Dunno if Romero is fit but if he is should play.

    Romero
    Dalot Bailly Rojo Darmian
    Fred Pogba Perreira
    Mata Lukaku Lingard

Run Pogba out there for the full 90 in a meaningless game so there’s no confusion when he’s not selected at Anfield. Just what Pogba signed up for.

I just hope that the blondie useless footballer doesn't start. Other than that, youngsters should play.

The most senior person starting this game should be Pereira.

Rest everyone else and play some kids.

Have to rest the first 11 entirely. The game means nothing, we need to be fresher than Liverpool who have a all to play for game on Tuesday and will be playing all there top players. We have to play youth with experience (those that need match experience) and would love to see chong and gomez getting a sniff. Greenwood would be great to see too.
    Romero
    Valencia bailey rojo Shaw/young
    Mctominay
    Andreas Fred

Won't happen but would be great if we could give a lot of the kids a run out from the start this game.

This is Jose Mourinho. He'll play all our best players, completely Traveller them out and then bring on McTomminay and Fellani as late subs, followed by smearing his finger in shit and rubbing in Fred and Periera's eyes.

In UCL, head to head is the tie-breaker. But there's no way Juventus are going to draw their match. Us winning away at Spain is even less likely.
Yes I know that it comes down to head to head and neither can I see Young Boys getting a draw against Juventus but if it that unlikely scenario did happen and we beat Valencia, how would 1st and 2nd place be decided? Both teams have beaten each other already so the head to head is out the window. I believe it’s goal difference but might be wrong.

Actually, if each team has won one game, they check the goal difference in these two games and if that's equal too, they check away goals. Only if all these are same, they go for goal difference against all opponents.

Pretty much a dead rubber game.

Opportunity to give some players a good rest before the festive fixture pile-up.

He's already said he's playing Pogba to give him a chance to find his form again. Hopefully he will give Fred some game time too.

It would be hilarious if we somehow won this group.

Jose confirmed Pereira and Pogba are definitely starting. If he throws Fred into the mix it'd be a great match to watch.

May as well rest some seniors, give others game time for match fitness and play youth.

Here is my pick (assuming players are fit)

    Romero

    Laird, Bailley, Rojo, Darmian

    Fred, Perreira, Pogba

    Chong, Greenwood, Gomes

    Subs
Grant, Roshaun Williams, Valencia, Fellani, Lingard, Mctom, Lukkaku

We have too many who need to find form for this to be exclusively kids. Rashford and Lukaku up front.

Maybe stick Greenwood or Chong in somewhere or as subs

Should be resting our entire first XI for Liverppol given the importance of that game for us. This is the perfect chance to play youth players and guys needing fitness - never going to happen but a man can dream
