We need to give players game time before the chocs against Chelsea, City and Arsenal.

Since we're back with 4 defenders, we didn't had the joy to have Evans, Jones, Carrick and Smalling back together.

It'll be the case soon so we should play asap. I think with those guys coming back together, we'll much more better defensively, at least more confident with the ball, and can play the first ball easier.

Would replace Blind by Carrick toward the end, like Di Maria with Adnan (can be a super sub this season when coming on)

    -----------------------------De Gea----------------------------
    Rafael---------------Jones--------Smalling--------------Rojo
    ------------------------------Blind-----------------------------
    ------------------Herrera----------Di Maria-------------------
    ------------------------------Mata-----------------------------
    -----------------------Falcao-----Van Persie------------------

Based on what Van Gaal said, Di Maria and Rojo might not start this one as Argentina have got a 12,000 mile journey in far east.

    Van Gaal:

‘Di Maria and Rojo are coming back from Hong Kong. They are playing two friendly games. They are coming back with jetlag so I cannot train at once and then I have to wait.

‘Then I have only two or three days before the game with West Bromwich Albion. That is my problem I know and we live in this football world. I was also a national coach but it is not so easy as everybody thinks.’

They could potentially be rested for this one, although three days should be enough to recover. If not, I'd play:

    De Gea
    Rafael - Jones - Blackett - Shaw
    Blind
    Herrera - Januzaj
    Mata
    Van Persie - Falcao

    Lindegaard - Smalling - Valencia - Carrick - Fellaini - Young - Wilson

If Di Maria and Rojo have recovered:

    De Gea
    Rafael - Jones - Rojo - Shaw
    Blind
    Herrera - Di Maria
    Mata
    Van Persie - Falcao

    Lindegaard - Smalling - Valencia - Carrick - Fellaini - Januzaj - Wilson

I would use this game to change tactic slightly, we have got a fortnight to practice in training to try to create another versatile first 11.

As we still have yet to field what I consider to be our strongest side, both in formation and players, this seems a good time to go for it.

    De Gea
    Rafael Jones Rojo Shaw
    Carrick (C) Blind
    Januzaj Herrera Di Maria
    Falcao
Subs: Lindegaard, Blackett, McNair, Mata, Fellaini, Valencia, Van Persie

Use Carrick and blind to keep things tidy at the back and to be always be open to receive the ball. I think with Carrick in there we would see Blind get forward a little bit more, but still with defensive duties. This allows the attacking players to be creative and not worry as much about tracking back.

Bit of a risk putting Januzaj to start due to lack of first team mins thus far, but I think he is a quality player and could easily cause trouble to WBA.

I would also put Falcao in as the main man and see what he can do..

If he cant last the full game RVP to replace late on.
There's no way Mata won't start this game.

There would be no bigger message to him that he's not a main player in the plans if he can't get to start v West Brom with Rooney out.

West Brom away will be very tough. Teams will throw every at us now knowing we are fragile at the back. A win here will be great for confidence going into the Chelsea game.
OT will be rocking for the renties, wish I was going

No doubt it's a hard trip for Di Maria and Rojo but they're playing against Hong Kong on Tuesday lunch-time (UK time) and we play against WBA on Monday evening.....i think they should be okay

Falcao will probably on the bench against WBA....he plays on Thursday morning (UK time)

I would love to see De Gea - Back Four (Whoever is fit) - Blind, Carrick - Di Maria, Mata, Januzaj - Van Persie

Hope Jones, Herrera and Carrick are fit to play some part in the game. Start with the diamond and then go 433 with Chelsea next week in mind.

    De Gea
    Rafael Jones Rojo Shaw
    Blind
    Herrera Di Maria
    Januzaj
    Falcao Van Persie
A couple of goals lead at half time would be terrific. Then change it in the second half to:

    De Gea
    Rafael Jones Rojo Shaw
    Carrick Blind
    Herrera
    Januzaj Falcao Di Maria
I know looking ahead can be a dangerous strategy, but a win against Chelsea the following week could define our season. Our back four would need protection in that game and Herrera's work rate at number 10 in the absence of Rooney. Also, we have looked vulnerable in the second half of each game played so far. I feel at times the midfield has been to open and Blind isn't able too provide the necessary protection. He needs help, and the experience of Carrick alongside him could be crucial.

Sorry Juan. Hope to read your terrific blogs post each game.

Hope we go 4-3-3, but guess not. Don't think this is the game in which we start being good away from home, but I hope I am wrong. Think we need to be strong enough physically to not be bullied here and West Brom has pace as well.

McNair has been excellent but with the big games coming up I'd be over the moon to see Jones start this game and get some match fitness back.

    I think that too.

We just need to play safe for this game, that formation is optimal for us. Low pace , hard pressing , more passing.

I have no idea what will happen against Chelsea and dont want to think about it. Just praying for a point.

Looks about right, though the front 3 is a bit short of pace and does not offer much in terms of defending from the front as a team. Maybe Januzaj for one of them. Hope Jones and Herrera are match fit.

Rojo won't lose his spot but I expect Jones to partner him, injuries permitting.

If we switch to that formation I think it will only be when Carrick is fit to partner Blind. Although I'm not convinced LVG is going to move to that formation at all, as I'm not sure he'll drop a striker. If he's persisted with RVP for this long despite his form, I think he'll stick with 2 up top.

Can't believe this match is still 10 days away - only good thing is more time for some of the injured to come back. Game can't come soon enough for me though.

Would like to give game time to Smalling and Jones. They need to be match fit because we're playing top sides now, and even if I hate Smalling, I think that he's better than what Rojo showed so far

If we can't play without Di Maria, we can cope without Rojo for one game (before Chelski) and after his international trip. I would play Rojo as left back against Chelsea, and so rest him this game against WBA

We are not going to be resting players with no CL or CC games. We only play one game a week. If anything they are going to be struggling for sharpness if we start rotating players this early in the season. It's very different without European football. Look how long Rooney's suspension is leaving him without first team football for United. On top of that, we have not won an away game all season so we are in a position to field any type of weakened side.

We are going to be playing our best eleven week in week out at the least up until the Christmas fixtures.

mouth-watering line up,but if it's a chelsea game the mata part is debatable though, everyone has to mark in a chelse game and you know that's mata's weakness and you are looking at him being under matic armpits..this game is a tactical challenge, more than just his creativity..

I'm sure that Starting XI will be no different from against Everton. Well, maybe couple of tweaks here and there. Seeing how it's been handled this season, Fletcher might start. I'm sure that Mata will start and I just want him to chase down the ball. I want him to see put up more fight. It's OK if he gets knocked down while chasing the ball. The important thing is that he shows the commitment.

Herrera should be back for that game, so not sure Fletcher will start.

As been said, no need to rest players without European football. The team needs to gel properly so we need to start our first 11 as often as possible. The only possible change I would make, is Carrick in for Mata and move Herrera up in the slot behind the strikers. You would think this isnt neccessary against WBA, but if we are playing that way against Chelsea (and City for that matter) Carrick would need some minutes as we know he is usually a slow starter. prediction: 1-0 our favour

No it's not. Mata being benched for the West Brom match still leaves him with two starts vs Everton and Chelsea, both games more important/difficult than the West Brom match. I think now is the time to give Januzaj his first start this season.

I have noticed many ppl want Di Maria up top but I doubt he can make the runs that a forward can and a forward's role in a 4-1-2-1-2 might not be suitable for him. He would eventually drop back to pick up the ball and when he looks up he will see only falcao in the box as compared to Falcao and RVP. I like the position and the way he is playing now and the way he runs with the ball through the midfield. Up top it might be easier to defend against him if his back is to the goal.

Also, Blind, Carrick and Valencia in a diamond might be a bit more static and slow as compared to Blind, Di Maria and Herrera. There is a lot of energy in that midfield to trouble WBA.

All fair points, I don't disagree. I'd like to see that team with Chelsea in mind.

When Rooney is available I'd like to see him at the tip of the diamond and Herrera in place of Valencia. Carrick and Blind will 'hold' will providing greater freedom for Herrera and Rooney. Di Maria is likely drift to the left, Rooney will provide another body in the penalty area and Herrera will move into an advanced central area.

    Sort of like this:

West Brom look truly awful this year, I hope we can smash them to carry as much confidence into the Chelski game.
Having just played them they are nothing like an awful side. They've got strong midfielders who will press on Blind and Maria. Wisdom didn't play against us (loan agreement) so he'll bolster their defence. And of course Berahino who'll be itching for another high profile scalp related pay rise.

You're now playing against proper teams. If you beat Brom you won't hear me complaining about how crap they played against you, etc.

I know Pereira won´t start but I think Mata should sit this one out. RVP can sort of look interested again before getting in the team but he is a certain starter sadly. Rojo is jetlegged and so is Di Maria but I would play Di Maria if he had to go straight to the Hawthorns from the airport. He is our best player by some distance

While I also think Di Maria is currently our best player, I wouldn't play him. I'd play Young or Valencia instead. First of all, knowing our luck, Di Maria will get injured in this match if he plays, fecking us up for the next few (crucial) weeks. I don't want to risk potentially our season, against WBA. We're good enough to beat them without a few of our best.

We have one game a week, there's no way Di Maria needs resting at all.

As Sandikan said it´s only one game a week so Di Maria should play all our games. A CL-game coming up after WBA I might have thought differently though. Having said that, all they do is playing football, so they should be able to play most games even if in CL. NHL teams dont feck around with the line up. How hard can it be, skip a fecking trainingsession if you are tired doing the one thing you love most of all

You can't compare NHL to football. In NHL they play 3 periods of 20 minutes and they have unlimited subs, so players are only on the ice for a few minutes and they sit on the bench after.
