  1. Day 23: Uruguay vs France and Brazil vs Belgium

He used to be captain. Then Wilmots made Hazard captain during one of Kompany's injuries for hazy reasons and it just kind of stayed that way. Hazard himself has said though that the likes of Kompany and Vertonghen are more of the real leaders in the team.
  2. Pep - Doping (?) | Are PEDs being used by footballers

They do keep track of how much players run, so it's possible to objectively verify whether it's actually the case that Pep's Barca ran more than other teams. The UEFA produces technical reports about the CL, with tons of statistics. Here's the one for the 2010/11 season, where Barca won the cup...
  3. Genuine hard men in modern football

    Dave.
  4. State of the refs in this country

There was another wild two-footed lunge right before the first goal in the Brighton-West Ham game. Perhaps if the ref hadn't given advantage, from which a goal resulted, it would have been red but I doubt it. It's bizarre how English refereeing has been regressing lately when it comes to...
  5. La Liga 2017/18

How are they more suited to cup than league campaigns?
  6. Are Spurs the dirtiest club in the league?

Just finished watching the first half of the City-Spurs game. Dele Alli already should have been booked twice then, for challenges on Gundogan and Fernandinho. The guy just screams entitlement-complex to me and the ref's permissiveness isn't going to help. Dembele is an interesting case. I've...
  7. Champions League Round of 16 Draw

With a bit of bad luck, all Spanish teams could be out for the next round. That'd be quite the turnaround.
  8. World Cup 2018 - General discussion

    England Panama Tunisia Belgium
  9. World Cup 2018 - General discussion

That's not true. Belgians are human beings like everybody else.
  10. You're a billionaire bankroller / sugar daddy

I'm surprised that even those who mention German teams don't think of Schalke 04. Only 5 other European teams have bigger attendances than they do. You wouldn't think of Gelsenkirchen as a major city, but it's part of the Rhur area, which is one of Europe's largest conurbations.
  11. Thomas Meunier

Meunier didn't have a good game against Greece though, even when considering the whole team was poor. A lot of misplaced passes that should have been straightforward. That sublime cross did make up for a lot of it.
  12. Roberto Martínez is new Belgium manager

Alright, here's a link: http://www.expatica.com/nl/insider-views/Expat-Voices-Same-language-different-people_100310.html I suggest you read it. As for the sarcasm, I suppose I'm not all too patient with people who make an ignorant statement and go on to pretend it's a fact.
  13. Roberto Martínez is new Belgium manager

Are these ideas of yours based on anything other than "oh they speak the same language and they're next to eachother, they must have the same culture"? Not considering ofcourse that there's a good number of French-speakers in Belgium to begin with. Believe me, the sarcasm is warranted.
  14. International Football Is Dead

I think international footbal is somewhat for football what the Eurovision Contest is for music. You don't watch it for the quality of the performance but to entertain yourself with harmless flag-waving.
  15. What happened to Dutch football?

As been pointed out, the generation between those of Cruyjff and Van Basten wasn't so great either. No Bosman to put the blame on. Belgium's national side is far stronger than that of 10 or 20 years ago. Yet they've had Bosman just as much as The Netherlands. And I agree Portugal are...
