I can't imagine what this place will be like if we lose to Spurs next week.
Yup genuinely mental reaction to losing a friendly against a top class European club with several world class players. Fair enough some people saying certain players haven't been at the top of their game OK you can identify certain things but you really can't judge them on it as when the season begins things will change.

What make me laugh with some posts is that people moan about last season's tour and say it was not representative of how we went on to perform in the season then in the same breath proclaim that losing one game in preparation season means we will be awful this year. The irony is funny to see at times.

It isn't that we lost, there is no disgrace to losing to PSG. It's that it has highlighted the deficiences of the lineups he has been putting out. I mentioned yesterday that I was worried about how Jones/Blind would cope and they didn't.

So, based on pre season, we could say that if we play 433, than it's got to be Schweni or Carrick, with Schneiderlin and Herrera (please give me more AnderLove, and not Anderson). Rooney will be up top, flanked by Depay.

I even argue that we could bench Mata, for Pereira or even Lingaard? We could really use the pace and freshness.

And please, use Mike Smalling in the back. I don't care if we use Jones or Rojo, even Blind, as long we have him there. A new CB would be preferable to play with him.

EDIT: Forgot to say, I don't even care about losing the game as I didn't when we beat Barcelona. But we got somethings to fix before going in the PL.

I dont understand how people can say beating teams in pre season has no relevance, yet being beaten does.
Make your mind up fecktards!

We sometimes had awful pre-seasons under SAF but still won the league, or bad ones under Moyes and finished 7th. Last season we went unbeaten but had a bad start. It more the lineups and performances that bother me than the results.

Hernandez get any minutes in this one?
No.

Subs were:

Half-time: Johnstone (for De Gea), Schneiderlin (for Schweinsteiger), Pereira (for Young)

65 mins: Smalling (for Jones), Valencia (for Shaw)

80 mins: Lingard (for Mata), Goss (for Carrick)

Weird decisions from LVG given we didn't create much at any time in the match and our defence was wide open throughout the game. Hard to believe we didn't use Herrera or Januzaj.

so if we line up against spurs with our best cb and cm on the bench are we allowed to moan then ?
If he tends on playing bastian, carrick and mata ahead of the like Of Herrera, Morgan etc. not sure how mata and Young have earned a place ahead of Herrera is beyond me. And factoring playing bastian carrick and blind in the spine of the team, is another mistake VG will need to learn

Massive overreaction here. I personally think it was a very good game for our preseason. It's much more beneficial to play a good team and lose than to roll over teams.

Positives:
1. Darmian! Great improvement to Valencia, very solid in defense, his crossing is 10x better and he was pretty decent at LB too.
2. Shaw - I like what I see very much and I'm pretty excited for him have a proper season with us.
3. Pereira - very promising, he can be a wild card for us, adding creativity when teams are hard to break. Only thing he needs to work on is his set pieces, if he is going to take them.
4. Schweinsteiger - he still looks unfit, but he was spraying pinpoint passes and showed his no nonsense tackling. Pair him with mobile CM like Schneiderlin and he will be great.
5. Memphis - great strength, speed, nice touches - very exciting. He was mobbed by 2-3 PSG players most of the time and still had couple chances to score.
6. Rooney - his first touch was much better than usual, he linked up well with Memphis - nice lay-off for for Memphis's volley - on another day it would've gone in.
7. Blind - he actually didn't do that bad as a CB - he wasn't at fault for either goal. I don't think he should be first choice, but he can provide cover.
8. Johnstone - great talent, very composed with the ball in his feet. I can see him becoming our first choice in the future.

Negatives:
1. The whole team looked very tired and off the pace, lots of mistakes and lacks of concentration - probably because of traveling and hard training sessions before the game.
2. The pitch - very weird bounce, took us a while to adjust. Good thing we didn't get any injuries.
3. DDG - very uncharacteristic mistakes, I hope it's because of tiredness (see #1) and not because his mind and hart are no longer here.
4. Jones - at fault for both goals, can't excuse him with tiredness (see #1), because he has shown this lack of concentration many times in the past.
5. Carrick and Mata - uncharacteristic mistakes, I hope it's tiredness (see #1)
6. Lack of creativity in the final third - other than Pereira and Memphis no one was willing to take risks.

So overall the positives outweigh the negatives, especially because some of the negatives might give LVG a clearer picture of our shortcomings and force him to look for solutions. For example he already commented that he needs to think about Jones starting as a CB - it's pretty safe to say Smalling will be our first choice. The lack of creativity in the final third might give him justification in front of Woody to break the bank for a creative attacking player like Reus or Griezmann. Also people complaining that LVG is gambling everything on Rooney are very naive to think that he is not working on other options. Last year he was bigging up Cleveley - made him a captain, told the press Cleverley is his man, etc. - 2 weeks later he shipped him to Aston Villa. I'm not saying he will sell Rooney, but rest assured - all this talk of Rooney being the main man doesn't mean LVG is not thinking about plan B and plan C.

Anyone know why everyone and their mom took turns beating the crap out of Stambouli yesterday? The poor guy was pissed the ref wouldn't show a yellow to protect him.

Just watched the game and didn't think we were that bad, we just lost to a very good PSG side. We were close to scoring on a number of occasions, it's just that the ball wasn't quite there, we made the wrong decision or just that we were a bit unlucky. It might have been a different game if Memphis's strike from Rooney's pull back wasn't wide, or Young's cross was just a little behind the defender after Shaw's drive, or the free kick had rebounded to Rooney and not the PSG defender.

Defensively we were weren't great I'll admit. Though Damian and Shaw were great, Jones is a liability and hope Smalling get his position back. Blind was surprising actually, he reads the game well and made some good interceptions.
Attack wise I thought we were good. Memphis was a threatening and Rooney linked the play well too. Young wasn't very effective but Pereira looked inventive when he came on. They were just bettered by a very good defensive display.

I don't see too much wrong with the team selections these last few weeks. Not everyone can play every minute and since we are in potentially four competitions, players like Herrera, Januzaj and Smalling will get plenty of play time. There have been a few odd ones like Blind at centre back, and Memphis down the middle but they've down alright there.

At the end of the day, PSG are a top class team with world class players throughout and have performed in the Champions League for the last few seasons. We have only just worked our way back into the Champions League and though our signings have maybe marginally closed the gap, we are still catching up to them and we will do it. Some people just need to take a chill pill and not get their knickers in a twist over a pre-season game.

I don't care about the results really. Barcelona were better than us, yet we have won by 2 goal margin. On the other hand I'm glad we lost, this stupid formation has to go away, the sooner lvg realises that the better.

Just watched the game. We lacked creativity in the final third and I thought Rooney was away from their penalty area way too much, which didn't really contribute to our attacking play. We are way too predictable at times as well. More players should be taking risks, but that's not something VG likes, so could be a problem for us next season yet again.

PSG took advantage of two brainfarts from Jones and De Gea and were very compact in their defending, so fair play to them. People have been complaining about Blind at CB and i'm not the biggest fan of the idea either, but he was good in the last couple of games and looka like he's growing in the position. Jones' performance is a much bigger problem at the moment so hopefully Smalling partners Blind/Rojo against Spurs. Ibra got too much space, but it's a friendly so we can't really expect some tight or man marking, can't really hold it against Jones. He should have done better in both their goals though. He should improve his positional awareness.

Darmian was man of the match for me. Really smart player who's very good offensively as well. I can't see Valencia displacing him at the moment. Shaw was good as well.

Carrick and Schweiny shouldn't play together as their too similar, but I think Val Gaal just wanted to give Schweiny some minutes after missing the game vs Barcelona.

Memphis very promising once again, but i think we can really do with Pedro for our attacking play.

All in all, looking forward to our game vs Spurs. Hopefully Van Gaal gets in right next weekend.

Di Maria is NOT a CM, just because he did well there in half a season doesn't mean he is.
ACM is where he's looked world class for Madrid - sort of where Mata likes to play (he's not a CM either and started life as a winger.. but plays through the middle mst effectively) but from deeper. He is not a classic CM no but he is an attacking midfielder or wide forward but always an inconsistent winger.

I'm disgusted !!!!!!!!!

I've a friend who plays for Paris (Youssouf Sabaly) he came on during this game, I asked him to take me a United shirt and he said that he couldn't at the end of the game.

I hope he won't be loaned again and if we face Paris again in CL, I'll have the kits
