He's criticised/mocked a lot on here for his spending (on defenders).
He hasn't had as much need to spend on midfielders and attackers, since his best players (Aguero, KdB, Silva, Sterling, Fernandinho) were already there. Pellegrini bought really well.

I am not convinced Pep will be able to replace them without wasting a lot of money.

Has Pep signed one player who turned out to be a bonafide star?

So they got Dias and Laporte for a combined €100m......that’s incredible in this market. Add Ake as well and City just sorted their defence out for the next 5+ years.

Meanwhile we spend upwards of 40m a summer on centre backs and are still nowhere.

Easy there, you have no idea if they´ve sorted out their defence even for just a game. They´ve wasted tons of money on defenders in the past and might just have done the same again again again.

Surely we need to wait for Dias and Ake to play first before we judge. Stones and Mendy were highly rated too.

Laporte was signed for 65 million euros or 57 million pounds, Ruben Dias will cost 55 million euros plus Otamendi or 55 million euros, depending on which journalist has got exact details.

That's 120-130 million euros (depends on how much Otamendi is worth) and they are not set. For all we know, Dias might be their Lindelof.

Otamendi is valued at around 15 million euros. So Diaz real cost is around 70 million euros.

To be fair, Aguero+Silva+Fernandinho are/were some of the best players in their position. Bernardo and Foden have a great opportunity to take Silvas spot for next 8-10 years, Dinho became less important and ideally I can see City resign Douglas Luiz next summer. Aguero, well, you have to replace him with a superstar player, that's for sure.

Alright £57m and £51m for the 2 players then...still a bargain in this market. Otamendi going is a blessing to get him off the books at this point he’s clearly not first choice at City and is almost 33 he‘s worth little to nothing.

Dias could flop you never know in the Prem how players adapt but he’s highly rated, one of the top young centre backs in Europe they‘re getting a good deal at that price.

Laporte was bargain, Dias isn't. There are rumors that this deal will be worth 70 million euros, 55 million + Otamendi, even at 50 million is far from bargain. Apart from select few, you can sign any CB for few more millions.

City will be glad to get rid of Otamendi there’s nobody paying 15m for him at 33 I’m not sure where that valuation is coming from. Lets agree to disagree anyway even if you want to value him at 70m euros I think they’ve got a good deal.

Even for 55 million Euros it's not a bargain, it's not as if they are signing proven player. Let's see how he steps up.

He might end up as good signing but at this point far from bargain. That's s the point I was making. These "they are set for next 5-10 years" thing works very rarely

Well then who you'd sign? Gimenez, Koulibaly and Kounde would cost €80m and their teams refused Otamendi as part of the deal. Upamecano won't move this summer, Alaba's only interested in Real/Barca so who's really left?

Isn’t this the lad who’s given red cards left and right for Sevilla?

Rumor was Koulibaly was around 65-70 million and Napoli's president said City didn't want to deal with them as they are still butthurt about Jorginho's deal.

Upamecano was available all summer before he signed contract extension.

I'm surprised we weren't more interested in Koulibaly if it was around that price,in regards to Upamecano wasn't it more complicated as we didn't start playing again until his release clause had virtually expired.

Interesting where will Koulibaly ends up. Napoli needs to sell too but they were determined not at lower than 70-80 million. No wants to pay up that amount

When we were linked with Dias, he was shite. Now that City are getting him, he's brilliant.

Hopefully this goes through. It'd be a good move for the lad.
Yeah he's behind Rashford, Greenwood, Bruno, VDB, James, Mata and Lingard now. Plus we're looking to sign another player in that position. Not to mention he's behind 4 other players in the CM slots.

Not much playing time for him. His place in the squad should be used for any youth player that's not gone out on loan but who might be ready for a game or two.
