Could be a zlatan-esq signing for us, if he can stay fit for a good size of the season.

also, a great player for the youngsters to learn from.

not the end of the world, if he’s a replacement for ighalo.

awful signing, huge wages + agent fee, injury prone 33 year old never played in prem. incompetence of the highest order that flies against everything we have said about future signings. This club will be lucky to finish in europa spots. pathetic.
Never played in prem  I hate that argument.

Ideally a club would have fixed the pending positions first and then spend money on such deals. But we are United. We walk the road no one dares.

You must have not follow French football at all.

Cavani was plagued with injuries. Not the same player few years ago, when he got chance to play. When PSG had to pay handsome to Icardi and use Choupo-Moting, you would have to question the other alternative that is Cavani. Add to that, all these clubs looking for new CF, and nobody really go near to strike a deal with Cavani before this round of news about us.

This makes Alexis Sanchez deal look reasonable for us and Inter without the hindsight.
To be fair I had not considered his injury record so I'd probably need to caveat a fitness assumption. On a free I can't really complain though, I feel we have moved on enough wages to take this risk.

Of course its not near enough on its own, I would agree there.

They're going to plaster him all over social media and the website and make him look like the second coming of jesus

All this signing deserves is a 2 line update.

We wont challenge this season anyway. I meant more for another top 3/4 fight. That is the reality. Liverpool will win with ease.

Next summer we need a huge window though, and maybe a new manager if we want to challenge
Yeah I was being sarcastic. I really don’t think a left back and rw will get is 3/4 though, with Lindelof and Maguire it’s just a shambles at the back to be honest. We literally can’t even sell the deadwood. Until we see contracts run down of the shit in this club and lower the wage bill considerably we won’t have a big summer. It will continuously be one good signing at a time coming in to the club. A good player coming into a shit team usually means said player becomes shit as history shows.

“Major wages.”
good that we have repeatedly stated during the Sancho saga that we wouldn't repeat our mistakes of bringing in players on massive wages.

this club, man ... always saying A and then turning around to do B. There's no plan at all.

FFS - I reckon he won't even play 20 games for us and get less than 5 goals.

We are utter idiots, yet again.

He's probably only been chosen for marketing purposes or something like that, unrelated to football

Decent signing as Igahlo is gone in 3 months time.

Cavani will be a much better goal threat and hopefully a positive influence on the dressing room.

Other than that, I really hope the agent fees are not true and just more of the press making up bullshit to make us sound bad as usual.

maybe, its still reported its 200k a week and nearly 10mil in agent fee's for an injury prone 33 year old. Seriously someone needs to get sacked for this, it stinks of imompetent desperation, and hypocrisy

While Cavani is past his best, I do wonder about where he is right now, if the injuries are behind him then he could be a decent poacher and has the incredible ability to find space where there is seemingly none, but he doesn't have the work rate that he used to have, at least he didn't play for PSG in the last two seasons.
Thank you!

If he can play the odd game and come on for the last 20 minutes and win a few points, I think it could make sense.

To answer a lot of posters here it's obvious from your post he is past his best. However, If Cavani was still young and had the power and ability of a few years back, he would not be on a free transfer. This is a stop-gap approach and probably brought in to coach some of our younger strikers.

Obviously hoping he smashes it here if he signs but this has every hallmark of plan Z.

those are the kind of signings that unsettles a 'young' team that is building

We are probably going to make a huge announcement on the last day and try to make it seem as a big piece of business.

Might even have a similar video like Sanchez to increase the hype, because at Manchester United, everything is about social media interactions and being the main talking point, even if it's mostly negative publicity.

The negativity on here is nauseating! Cavani is a great backup option and crucially adds depth to our attack. He’ll enable Martial, Greenwood and Rashford valuable breaks and is a great experienced head/ character to add to the dressing room!

Let me guess he will be on a massive salary too, if he’s the last signing we make then what on Earth are we doing.

Ed rates this.
Martial has missed 13 matches each of the last 2 years. Cavani has missed 18 & 13 matches the last 2 years (that injury history table incorrectly has him missing 8 and 5 matches separately last year during the same period, that's an error, he either missed 8 or 5 not both)

If your issue with this is just injury history then I take it you don't rate Martial as a starter? Because Cavani is coming to be depth/rotation, Martial is our starting forward

Stop talking sense, some on here won’t believe it till you tweet it!
