Technically elite footballers tend to age better than pacy ones. No surprise he's held up better than Bale (on top of that his professionalism is quite impeccable)

Would get even better numbers if he had wingers who could finish and were better at crossing.
His professionalism is quite impeccable.. hmmm. Alright then, besides from the ongoing criminal case amongst other things but yeah.. professional.

I feel like there was a point where we could have really pushed for him, perhaps 14/15 or 15/16 when Madrid were flirting with the likes of Aguero - albeit Arsenal was the only club that were ever linked with him. Shame it never happened, what a magnificent career this guy has had.

He's been amazing for so long people sometimes forget how good he is when talking about the best strikers in the world.
Many players have been amazing as long as Benzema and they gets highly praised on their greatness.

That wasn't case for Benzema until Cristiano left.

I think he always gets a bit overlooked because he doesn't score the same amount as CR, Messi or Lewa but he certainly is and has been for years an absolutely vital part of this Real Madrid team especially because he does so much more than just score goals.
Since 2018-19 season, Benzema has actually outscored Cristiano in non-penalty goals...

Benzema's numbers could've been way higher if he took penalties to inflate his goal-tally.

No wonder SAF loved him so dearly. At United he would've been a monster. Not that he isn't now of course. It's just that Cristiano was the main man at the time. Given his pedigree and scoring capacity in the CL we would've had a lot more CL titles I wager.
21-year-old Benzema was the most sought-after young player. He would've been a monster on any club as the best player on his team.

Technically elite footballers tend to age better than pacy ones. No surprise he's held up better than Bale (on top of that his professionalism is quite impeccable)

Given to people's opinon about Benzema when this thread created, I bet most people wouldn't imagine him delivering 80 goals + 25 assists (so far). Especially after coming off a season where he barely had double-digits in goals. Many thought Bale would take over the role as the talisman. Suggesting otherwise is just revisionist history.

Seriously this one. This guy sacrificed a lot for Cristiano and the betterment of the team. Despite all those negative stories that popped out in his private life, this guy is just THE consummate professional that is out there in European football. He's gonna be a huge icon at Madrid when he retires. Underrated as feck but when time comes he will get the glory and praise he deserves.
Although Benzema did sacrifice his numbers, he was consistenly treated as an complete afterthought among casuals and viewed as a meme during Cristiano era. People assumed he was just a tad better version of Emelie Heskey. Even after Cristiano left, most people thought Benzema served his role and wasn't good enough as the talisman.

Benzema is 5th highest goalscorer in Real Madrid's history with 272 goals. Only Cristiano has better goal-per-game ratio among their top 5 scorers. He easily cemented his status as Real Madrid icon years ago.

I don't know if Benzema will ever get the recognition he deserves. Look no further than ""How good was Sergio Busquets" thread. Many thinks he isn't an all-time great legend & is a cnut. That's how Benzema will be remembered.

His professionalism is quite impeccable.. hmmm. Alright then, besides from the ongoing criminal case amongst other things but yeah.. professional.
or Madrid throughout his time at the club. He also took care new players well, he even picked up Vini to the training ground in his first year. So yeah, it's fair to say his professionalism is impeccable.

The fact that he's playing 90 minutes every single game at 33 and hardly looks tired is very impressive too.
Some French journalist that is a good friend of Zidane has said that Benzema basically copied Cristiano's training routine/diet in the past few years. I'd tend to believe that given how fit he looks at an age where most players usually slow down.
He seems to have lost some weight over the last few years. He just appears slimmer and sleeker than previous versions of himself and this has coincided with his upturn in form over the last few seasons.

Ronaldo has an ongoing rape accusation against him. Are you gonna question his proffesionalism too or will you be sensible enough this time around to realize that It's nothing to do with his footballing career?

Not the best evidence, but his instagram is filled with him constantly working out at home outside of regular practice. The proof is in the pudding though, the guy seems to look as good as he did when he was 27.

To add to that the case against Benzema is very much murky and it is not clear that he has done much wrong. His treatment from the French republic is questionable.

Is this the summer where he finally leaves Madrid? I haven't seen much of him over the past 2/3 years but what a fantastic career he's had. Doubt he fancies a move to the Premiership. Possibly Italy next?

Benzema (and Modric) have signed a 1-year contract extenstion. It'll probably be announced after this season.

Also, Benzema is far and away their best player. Why should he leave his dream club?

He probably wants a shot at Raul's record
He's extending up to 2023.
277 goals for Madrid, 47 needed to beat Raul's record, he could do it

Do Madrid fans consider him a legend? I think he's been there for nearly ten years and has never let them and the club down. Wish i had seen more of him in his prime

They don't and won't have a choice. If I'm not mistaken he is already top 10 in appearances, top 5 goalscorer and has the most assists in the club history.

They don't see him as a club legend? I mean why is that not? I think he's genuinely been for them like what Rooney has been for us or something close to that

Yes, definitely. He's a club legend, no doubt about it.

Their 2nd top scorer being a centre back is worrying.

Manchester Utd never lose, just run out of time
In some defence of those who didn't rate him on the first page, he was struggling a bit in the final two years before Ronaldo left. Obviously some were going overboard but it was understandable to think he wouldn't be able to step up to be the main man. I'm glad he did though, I've been a huge fan of him as a player since his Lyon days.

Once he told his team mates "dont pass to Civinius Jr". He is still a good striker but not a great character.

That`s a great statistic how good Benzema has been (especially given that he doesnt take penalties which Ramos does) but also hilarious how bad their offensive recruitment has been. Casemiro, Modric and Kroos with the same amount of goals as Vinicius, Asensio and Rodrygo.

To be fair, first page was back in 2018 and Benzema was coming off an atrocious season, following a not-great one. The signs pointed to a decline

Instead he bounced back with a vengeance, and now we're left thinking what could have been if we'd replaced Cristiano with Lewandowski or Kane :(

Backup to Lukaku

This guys been quietly carrying the team through the tough times, while being surrounded by dross, without moaning for a move. Deserves some credit.

As I said before, he was correct about the comparison between him and Giroud.

But no one serious has ever suggested that Giroud was a better footballer than Benzema.
True but he was still right about the gulf between the two. Many didn't realise it at the time because they still rated Benzema as one of those "pretty good" strikers when he's actually one of the best of his generation

who are those many? I don't know a single person that believes Giroud is/was close to Benzema.

Read that he has more goals in the champions league than Cristiano since Ronaldo left for Juventus

As far as people who actually watch club football I don't either.
But if you go on social media, the Benzema/Giroud debate goes far beyond that as you should know, and you'll see a lot of people who don't really care that much about the sport beyond NT games give their two cents on it and why Giroud is better.

United will sign him next year. Perez is hellbent on getting Mbappe or Haaland, and the latter seems more realistic. Offloading Karim’s wages and freeing up that striker spot would make sense for them.

Giroud has been better for the NT and he was better when they were playing together but I don't know a single person, not even idiots who claim that Giroud is a better player. He just happened to be a better fit up until someone like Mbappé appeared because while I can't prove it, I'm pretty sure that Benzema would have been amazing with Mbappé and Griezmann.

:nono:

Benzema made 30 goals + 11 assists in 2018-19 season. He was Real Madrid's only bright spot while everyone else underperformed.
