I thought we’d get roundabout £15M-£20M for him. But if it is £30M then that’s an incredible deal.
We were never gonna sell him for less than we bought him for. He's an international and proven Premier League player with multiple years left on his contract. Any 15-20m fee for him would have to have addons also.

Good decision by the club to let him go as he simply wasn't cut out for playing for a club of United's statute and ambition. Will be interesting to see how he does for Leeds and under Bielsa.

Even for £30m, I think he's a good buy for other PL clubs as he's young, hard working and basically a pace/press machine. In certain set ups and formations he can be a very useful player to stretch play and carry the ball in open spaces. If I was Bamford, I would be excited by his signing as you know for sure you're going to get his cut backs and crosses.

Personally will be a bit sad to see him go as he's a good squad option and Mata/Lingard should be on the chopping block first for me. If Ole can integrate the youth more and/or bring in someone with this money then fair enough.

Can’t remember the journalist, but after we signed him I remember it being reported that our scouts rated him as having the potential to be World Class.

Most I ever hoped was that he might become a useful option. He’ll be one to watch at Leeds and I hope we install a buy back clause just in case
They were probably the same scouts who sold Fergie on Bebe, Bellion and Obertan

Let's see what Bielsa can make out of him before we start slating him.

Funny ole thing the way football works. We're out here celebrating and the guy looks broken and probably feels quite down being pushed out. I wish him well, there's a lot of players I'd have kicked out before him. The fact that we got so much money for him and won't get 10% of that value for others is telling.

I'm sure he would have seen it coming and known that his level was well below par. Leeds is good place to go to and playing football for them right now has to be enjoyable.

Honestly think he has a place in our squad ahead of Martial, Lingard and Mata.

If you need a game changer there’ll always be 2 of Sancho,Greenwood, Rashford and Cavani on the bench (Elanga and Amad too). If you need to hold on to a win, someone to work hard and give us pace on the break DJ’s perfect for that.

Cant see what the other 3 offer ahead of him.
He'd be wasting his career if he was with us just for that role. Those other three should also leave the club.

I like James and wish him well, but he hasn't been nearly good enough for us. Rarely affects games, rarely scores/assists. Ultimately he doesn't have the quality required. He could still have a decent PL career though

He has this awkward first touch in him, mainly the reason why he can't be effective breaking through long balls.

I wish him all the best.

I think £25m-£30m is a fair price for both parties. People were hoping for £25m for Lingard, but I'd have been a lot more happy with that deal than with selling James for the same price. He's far younger, and has been of far more use to us over the last couple of seasons. When you see the likes of Guehi going to palace for £20m, £25m for Dan James really isn't that high.

For Leeds I think he'll fit in very well as they run and press a lot. If he improves his decision making and final ball, he'll be a very good player for them.

He will do very well for Leeds on the left wing. Good luck James, wishing you the best.

James has been a solid little bit of business. Cost peanuts to give us cover in a position we were very light in at the time and even though he’s not set the world on fire for us it’s very hard to say he’s let us down at all. Now we’ve got a good price and I’m sure he’ll do pretty well. Well done all.

I think Leeds have made a massive mistake. He is indeed championship material. Great business for united!
Can't resist pointing out that the fact that a number of PL clubs want him at that price level maybe indicates that their scouting staff see that differently, and that maybe that should cause you to stop and wonder for a second if you really have a strong basis for your assessment?

Pity it didn't work out at United. He's a good kid and you could never fault for him for effort. Hopefully he does well at Leeds.
If his final vision and delivery will be improved by a dedicated coaching team over there at Leeds, he will be immense for a few good years. His engine is fabulous.

If there’s one thing to learn from this: sign players from Championship. The risk is low and it’s quite easy to make a profit as long as they are young and have some potential.

I like James, but he’s a better fit for a less possession-oriented side. Good move for both sides, Leeds finally got their man.

Right decision to sell.

It's a shame it didn't work out as his heart definitely was in the right place. With more playtime I reckon he has the potential to become a decent midtable PL player.

50% profit from when we signed him, fantastic work from the team! Do wish him well as he seems a very nice bloke, and Leeds will offer him a regular run which we can't do

Fantastic business by United. I like James but it’s clear he was out of his depth over here. He’ll do much better at Leeds as that’s his level .

Wish him all the best but good riddance.

Manchester United isn’t in this football business to make a profit off selling players.

And it’s a faulty assumption anyway, for every Dan James you can easily have a Zaha, or extend it to even lower leagues, Nick Powell.

Good deal for all parties, he gave it his best, and was never disruptive or unprofessional, good luck to the lad.

Don’t get why we’re not letting Lingard go aswell, could get decent money for him and bring in a quality DM, we have VDB who can cover Fernandes.
For a second I thought your username was based on James' signing.
We won’t mention his other valuations ;)
 I know what you mean. I do think Jesse would be worth slightly more than James but he didn't take into account his high wages and contract situation. As for the others, yeah they are off the mark but I remember laughing at James for £30m at the time and I was wrong about that!

I doubt he will even get in the team ahead of harrison, and definitely not raphinha.

he’s going to be a leeds squad player which sort of tells the story itself.

he had a chance at the top level but it proved he didn’t quite have it. Im glad for once we’ve moved a player on that was clearly not good enough and actually made money on him.

Feel for James. He is living his dream here and it definitely shows in his zeal, work rate and professionalism. Apart from his electric pace which was not only effective in attack but also in recovering the ball at times. He also showed glimpses of going past his man and putting some deadly balls inside the box, but sadly lasted only for the first few months. These are pretty much his attributes and is limited outside these.

I believe he can still be a decent squad option and do a job as a substitute or fill in some cup games or easier ties. As others pointed out, there are few other players who need axing before him but there are no potential buyers for them and maybe the club understands that too.

Nonetheless, United need better than him and the only squad player that can fetch value in the market currently.

Good luck to him and wish he contributes in goal against all the rivals.

This transfer window keeps delivering good news. I also think it might be the first time ever I feel like someone overpaid for one of our players.
