Seen a bit of them but not a massive amount. Obviously there form has been patchy but I assumed that he would still be safe owing to the nature of his time there prior to this wobble.
His position definitely isn't stable and a lot of the Leicester fans have already started to turn on him. They might stick with him based on what he has previously achieved for them but I have no doubt they have considered the possibility of letting him go if results don't change soon.

Rodgers isn't far off getting the sack at Leicester himself. If we're stupid enough to offer him the job, he'd be even more stupid not to jump at it.

Keep a clean shit tomorrow, United is my final bus
I was never on the Zidane train, but Julien Laurens and Mohamed Bouhafsi have totally derailed it imo:

Laurens said he has no interest in English football at all, doesn't watch the PL, doesn't know most PL players or team styles. Also noted that his wife has no desire to live in England. He did say that his English is better than advertised though.

And from a big Bouhafsi profile (translated, judging by some of the text):

Sounds like the French Ole.
No thanks. I want to see some visible improvement through good coaching now. I'm seeing posters say "but it's Zinedine Zidane " and it worries me, because I know that's the level of thinking that Woodward will adopt. I'm sick of us being a club that goes for names rather than what we need and assessing all options. This team has shown that it's not capable of functioning without better instruction, Zidane won't have the same joy with those methods here.

Just been having a look at La Liga table having not paid much attention. Just saw Sociedad are joint top. An internal appointment who came in a couple of years ago and won them their first trophy since 1987 with the Copa Del Rey, according to an article I read they play pretty good stuff too. Any chance he's an up and comer this Alguacil fella? I've honestly no idea, just wondering.

I'd rather some left field choice than Rodgers at this point.

Has to be Zizou. I want to actually see some football for once. Finally my eyes can stop bleeding.

I hope we’re not foolish enough to go anywhere near Rodgers. I might not have taken him at his peak but appointing him on the back of this season would be utter stupidity. Knowing our board, I fully expect our next manager to be Brendan.

Can we add Sir Steve Feckin Round to the vote options? If Darren Fletcher is viable, how about Lego Pep's Lego Moyesy?

I don’t see why people are moaning about Fletcher, anyone is better than Ole now and it will only be for a few games. Someone from current setup is going to have to be in charge for at least 1 game.

Rodgers or Zidane are only appointments I can see us making this season on a permanent basis.

Fletcher interim while we wait to see who out of Poch or Rodgers get sacked first. Would anyone actually be surprised

Hire a proper manager and we can save this season... 6 points off West Ham in 4th, FA Cup to play for, and just need to grind through these last 2 CL games and we'll have the knockout games to play for. Good thing West Ham lost today as well.

If Leicester had lost that FA cup final there'd be serious calls for Rodgers' sacking by now.

I would take an interim until the summer only IF we were able to secure Ten Hag and ANNOUNCE before end of the season

If Arteta didn't get the FA Cup trophy, he would have been sacked by Arsenal a long time ago too.
I remember Fergie survived the sack with his FA Cup win as well.
We really haven't given the FA Cup enough credit on how it affects the Premier League landmark.

Zidane isn't a tactician. We urgently need someone to come in and actually give us a game plan. Zidane is a man manager who is good at getting the best out of individuals. We already had a good man manager. We could do with someone who can teach us how to defend as a unit first of all.

Just hope it is only a few games, however you saw what happened with Ole after that interim run of wins. I pray we don't make that mistake for a second time in a row

Lopetegui is, by far, one of the most exciting name thrown out there right now in my opinion. His football is perhaps not the most exciting, but he really is a good coach.

His numbers at Sevilla speak for itself. He took over at Sevilla team that was quite steady at 1,48 points per game in La Liga in 18/19 under Machin and 1,73 under Caparros who was caretaker. Under Lopetegui Sevilla has evidently made great progress from day one:

19/20 - 1,84 points per game
20/21 - 2,03 points per game
21/22 - 2,25 poins per game (probably a bit down to fixtures)

Overall, Sevilla have taken 1,99 points per game under his leadership making him their best manager in this perspect in modern history. Unai Emery «came second» the past decade with 1,78 points per game.

Looking at his team it is also worth noting that they have a good structure/balance, know how to defend and dominates the ball. Compared to Rodgers, this guy is modern top coach. I’m not sure if he has it in him to challenge Conte, Klopp or Pep, but he is a very good coach.

He is not proven in a manner like Pep, Conte or Klopp. Neither was Tuchel in my opinion. This is the type of hire Bayern, Man City or Chelses would have done. If he did not succeed, I’m confident he would make the team more attractive to a young coach like ten Hag.

In summary, he checks two important boxes:

A) His teams progress year by year,
B) He can organize a team,

I would probably prefer Pochettino (due to his experience from the PL), but that sounds less realistic.

If we want to give up on this squad and start another rebuild, then someone with a strong philosophy like ten Hag is the way to go. Because he would need a bunch players that fit in with his style of play. I don't care how good a coach he is, he's not getting AWB, Fred, Shaw, Bruno etc. to fit into a progressive, Dutch style system.

If we want to take a more short term view and try and win something while we still have Ronaldo, then Zidane is the way to go.

Summed it up perfectly and think the second option is more likely because won't involve having to replace numerous players. There is also the fact he would want a proper structure behind him which he won't get from our clowns.

This is long, but the takeaway is that we should hire a fashionable young hipster coach right now for the rest of the year, someone who won't turn it down because the job is just too exciting to turn down and will back themselves to do it.

https://www.redcafe.net/threads/next-manager-odds-for-2002.467165/

This thread reminded me that if we can't get Pep or Klopp, it's as likely that someone logical like Rodgers or Ten Hag looks like a terrible appointment in a few years.

Here's what I wrote in 2014 on this forum:

https://www.redcafe.net/threads/van...u-about-this-appointment.391013/post-15717637

"A+/A
In terms of other managers, I think Klopp was a clear first choice but couldn't be gotten yet, Rodgers was not going to happen but he deserves mentioning for his impressive work, Simeone - I don't give a feck if he doesn't speak English, his team is insanely well managed and solid players like Gabi, Tiago, Adrian look fantastic while very good players like Godin, Juanfran, Turan, Costa all look phenomenal - was probably not gettable either and after that there's a few good choices of which LVG was certainly one:

A-/B+
Pochettino's pressing numbers this season with Southampton (most possession while employing sloppy passes = a fit team working both hard and intelligently to get the ball back) were so impressive that he deserved consideration but a mid-table prem manager was NEVER going to get the job after Moyes, and Rudi Garcia's general resume is so good that I would have been excited by their appointments too. Bielsa has all the negatives of Van Gaal, but it would be so fun that I'd love to have seen him get a shot as long as he could deliver his old CM Vidal with him. De Boer has had trouble in Europe but seems good with young talent and has won the league every year. Don't know quite enough about him to really say, but I think he's earned discussion for this kind of job.

So, while he's not an A+ like Klopp or Simeone, he 's a solid A- or B+ appointment."
Looking back, any of Klopp, Simeone or Rodgers would have been much better than what we'd done but I think everyone wanted Klopp so no points there and Simeone had just won the league so honestly no points there.

Pochettino from Southampton, that was a good call, but sadly looking at stats this time around doesn't really bring as obvious as name.

There's not really a Southampton and the only team that really sticks out is Atalanta and I think most people already think Gasperini probably tactically the best option but he doesn't want the job and seems to piss off everyone and the club won't consider him.

Bielsa would have been a delight, we should genuinely have done this, even if it would have been insane the young players would have improved and we'd have saved money on meh transfers and could have bought a couple massive stars instead of a bunch of weird flaccid Schneiderlin 30M buys once Bielsa fell in love with like Daley Blind as a CB and Wilf Zaha on the wing.

De Boer haha yikes. He was coming off 4 league titles in a row which is impressive even if it's Ajax.

Garcia would have failed, he's a decent manager but seems to have nothing special about him and he's too defensive. He shows that you can take 2 clubs up, win the league with the 3rd or 4th best squad but never evolve and be a solid 7/10 guy, which is probably what will happen with my next name.

So back to now, and the 2 weird left field choices the club will never consider but I'd like to see them give the rest of the season as a trial instead of just having Carrick and Fletcher coach while spending the time trying to figure out if the fans would accept Brendan Rodgers, trying but fail to get Zidane on the phone and trying to somehow invent a time machine that could let them see if England win the World Cup and if so give the job to Gareth Southgate but definitely not do so if he doesn't but also not wait until after the World Cup to appoint a manager based ultimately on if Antonio Conte improves Harry Kane

Koln - Steffan Baumgart -
He plays 2 up front, 4 at the back but they seem to deny the other team from getting the ball up the pitch fairly well and he's playing a fair amount of the 4-1-3-2 formation (previously only seen on Fifa by teenages and whenever England's 66 Cup winning formation went out of style?) that Celta Vigo also use and actually suits us, particularly if Pogba stays. 2 straight promotions for Paderborn before they went back down but they had no business in the Bundesliga surely. Only 49. We could do dumber things than hiring a young Bundesliga manager. We will never consider this.

Slavia Prague - Jindřich Trpišovský
He gets compared to Klopp for playing high intensity football but he went to the Nou Camp with Slavia Prague players and somehow got a draw by cutting Sacchi's 25 metres between defence and attack rule in half and throwing out this somehow perfectly logical insanity:

and then switched to 3 at the back against Sevilla when his players couldn't handle Sevilla's press and got another draw.

He won the double last year, and also in 2018-19 and the league the next year so that's 5/6 possible trophies in the last 3 years. They're 2nd this year by a point but first in goal difference and set to go through to the Europa League knockouts again, where they made the quarter-finals last year and lost to Arsenal after beating Leicester and Rangers and then getting a 1-1 draw in London before his team collapsed and lost 4-0 but again he didn't have a player who would have made the Arsenal team (though his best 2 players might have made their bench).

Soucek and Coufal improved massively under him to became Prem quality starting players and the Czech nation only has one more of those for sure in Patrick Schick, so seems able to develop a player. He brought Coufal with him from his old club and Soucek was a young player not yet starting before he got there, so not really luck either most likely.

Only 45!

TLDR: This managerial appointment will be like a 40M Euro range buy from that 2014 season where really the guy is slightly less likely than not to be not good enough, which is to say managerial versions of Ander Herrera to United (okay but not really for manager), Lukaku to Everton (sure), Shaw to United (again okay but not really a home run) or Eliaquim Mangala to City (this is if we'd hired De Boer).

So since it's probably about 60-70% likely to fail, we should get 2 bites at the apple by hiring a young tactician who's done well so far instead of just wasting the year. If he's good enough to make it a tough choice between keeping him or not, that's actually a good thing, even if the owners would probably hate it.

I understand that everyone wants the new coach to be in place yesterday - but we have to be very careful not to screw this up once again.

Rodgers' results are dropping away
Zidane took an already world class side
Fletcher is another coaching rookie
As is Carrick

We can only hope the cheque book is open for ten Hag

If we cannot get any of our first choices, I rather we go for Potter.

We should be more decisive and wiser when it comes to manager appointment, regardless who comes in. Always have some kind of backup plan and a list of potential replacements in the drawer. Even if we get Ten Hag who is my ideal choice, there is no guarantee that it will work out. We must be prepared to act fast and decisively.

The Board could have removed Ole before the international break, got a new coach in and given them two weeks to work with the squad.

It's what Villa did, Norwich, Newcastle. Teams with basic football sense. We don't have basic football sense at United though.

Whoever comes in as coach is going to have to cope with that. Very hard to see it ending in success. Not with Glazer leadership.

I think the club really wanted to cling on till Poch became available so I have no idea what they'll do now. I can believe they're contacting Zidane and Rogers is plan B. I just want to see anyone that can organise these players better and bring a little composure back to the team.
