Maguire played really well. However, I suspect that lack of pace may have played into the negative tactics, as England must have been terrified of the likes of Maguire caught high up during a counter against the pace of the USA front line.
As a consequence, they were quite deep, which effectively pulled the whole team quite deep as well.

Harry Kane is not very mobile is he? There was very little intense pressing from the front from England, but again perhaps the fear of pace of USA up front meant there was never a plan to press high up the pitch

With a loss they are also through unless Wales score 6 more than them (actually, make up the 6GD so that's 3 if H2H or 4 if goals scored)

So England are essentially through.

The cost is pissing away the momentum. I look at that manager and side and don't see who or what will reignite that sort of motivation and confidence.

Dunno, maybe they are all as boring and calculating as Southgate.

Rice and Bellingham had poor performances. Offered no outlet to the defense, allowed so much pressure at the beginning of the second half.

Maguire was excellent. Kane had a good game, defended well and did well with whatever little of the ball he showed.

England will be through, but serious doubts about Southgate now. He absolutely should have changed the game earlier.

Don't really understand how England fans can still defend Southgate. He is actively holding them back. Not saying they should be anywhere near the best teams, but to play like that against the US is utterly embarrassing. People keep picking out individuals to criticize, and god knows they deserve it, but has any single English forward or attacking midfielder ever looked consistently good under him? Grealish occasionally looks threatening but that's only because he just goes out there and does whatever the hell he wants. People calling for Foden are missing the forest for the trees (also, he looked just as toothless at the Euros) - no matter who comes into this team, they are going to look like shit. It's all just passive, reactive, ultra safe football.
