Four players in our team are rapid, namely Rashford, Garnacho, Wan-Bissaka (if he remains), and Hejlund. Players like Shaw, Mount, Mainoo, Dalot (if he stays), and Martinez, do not have a problem with pace. Our team's biggest weakness arises when Eriksen is not available or not in form. However, Maxence Caquere is a suitable replacement, having a passing range very similar to Eriksen, and is also a capable defensive player.
I wouldn’t say any of them are rapid. Rashford isn’t what he was (he definitely used to be). Martinez is slow he’s just good from a positioning perspective. We don’t have any out and out rapid players in my opinion.

It's one thing I don't really understand with ten Hag as you'd get the best out of Bruno or Mount, Mainoo and Onana in that set-up.

I think the first minute or so of this video is a good example of his technique/more progessive play style that he is capable of for those worried about that, aside from his excellent defensive skills/ball carrying ability due to his sheer athleticism.
Is he professional? steady lad? A fighter? I like what I’ve seen of his game but as we’ve found out the hard way at Utd there’s more to it than that.

Why do we keep getting linked with physical players when we lack technical ability? Onana's passing stats aren't great, and if we continue to attempt to play out from the back, a player like him wouldn't benefit us.
It’s unfair to judge his passing stats when he plays for Everton. Despite of that, he’s on the top 3 of Everton player in term of passing accuracy (84%) and only Tarkowski and Michael Keane has more long passes attempt per 90 mins than him (71% accuracy) in Everton.

this guy is a solid quality player and he's 100x more athletic than anyone we currently have in our midfield....we lack a guy that just fecking cover some ground and win a tackle and then facilitate the ball forward

People have regularly mentioned Caqueret for what feels like about 3 or 4 years now, yet he still hasn’t left Lyon who now currently sit in the relegation spots in France.

Would it be fair to say he’s not all that, and maybe there’s a reason not too club in Europe has ever seriously gone for him?

Just food for thought.

The only time I have heard of him is on this site and that does not look like changing.
Saying that, the first time I heard of Antony was on here and then I had a quick look at him on Youtube and straight away thought "No thanks"........what do I know???

Despite playing in an underperforming Lyon team, Caqueret's passing, interceptions, and tackling metrics have consistently ranked him among the top DMs in Ligue 1.

The reason is that he ruptured his knee ligaments in 2022 when he was on an ascending trajectory. Now I do think that he is slightly overrated on the caf but when fit, he is excellent.

I think so too. Think he gets overrated because he looks quite elegant on the ball. Has loads of tackles every game because he doesn't have positional discipline and so is always scrambling to cover up mistakes. Doubt Lyon would be bottom of the French league if they had a worldy defensive midfielder who can pass like Eriksen in their ranks.

More blocks, more challenges and more interceptions than Onana. Apart from that though what have the Romans done for us?
Onana has more ball recoveries, better in making challenge on the ground, and better in making challenge aerially. That’s why you need to watch him, instead of relying on stats alone. Garner has more blocks but what if Onana doesn’t need to attempt lot of blocks to win the ball back? More challenges don’t also count as successful challenges so it doesn’t mean he’s good or better doing them and that’s also depends on the players’ role. Stats can be misinterpreted easily without context. I’m not sure how you try to go against @SilentWitness when talking about Everton players.

If you actually watch him, Onana has better passing range than Garner, better in dictating tempo, and has better ball retention in keeping and passing the ball in tight spot against opposition high press than Garner. Garner is only better in crossing the ball the box and set pieces, and to me that’s not making Garner better than Onana in passing ability.

I don't really get what the Fred and Rice thing is supposed to prove. Different roles in different teams in different seasons, seems a very odd comparison. 2 players in similar roles in the same team in the same season not so much.

And I have to say Onana's passing stats seem pretty good, I was surprised at that, I'm not having that he's better defensively though just because he can win the ball better when someone hoofs it through midfield. A DM should be winning interceptions, it shouldn't always have to be tackles. He has a lot to work on defensively Onana IMO.

And finally why would I believe a random Everton fan's opinion more than my own eyes? Everyone is allowed an opinion.

I think Onana is great, but he is starting to seem quite injury prone.

A certain Manchester United once signed a certain Roy Keane from relegated Forrest..... Make no mistake about it. Caqueret is a potential top tier DM in a very poor Lyon side, thanks to disaterous off field decision making and player confidence being in the toilet.

Signing Caqueret on a cheap to rotate with Mainoo would be a steal. He could replace Eriksen.

I'd take Onana as a new 8 (replace Mctominay in squad/Casemiro in XI) and Caqueret as the new 6 (replace Amrabat/Eriksen) in the squad. Those 2 with Mainoo, Gore, Bruno and Mount would make a good midfield selection to build on.

Yes wouldn't be too expensive while strengthening the weak positions. Both can play as a 6 or 8 (albeit differently), so we could get more tactical possibilities.

Shouldn’t people have the right to share their opinion on something they actually witness and understand rather than sharing their opinion by relying on stats blindly? The fact you were surprised with Onana’s passing reflects to you didn’t witness him enough and didn’t understand the role he’s playing and his strength.

Neither Garner and Onana play in similar role, hence why Fred and Rice stats was there to prove the point. Having better interception stats isn’t enough to call player is better defensively if the player is worse in other aspects such as winning challenges on the ground, worse in ball recoveries, and worse aerially.

Truth be told Dyche ball and the roles their playing have utterly confounded many as to the players Garner and Onana truly are. If they were in a system like Emery's at Villa for example many would be waxing lyrical about the all round ability both possess.

More doesn't equal better.

Watching us every week I can clearly see the strengths and weaknesses of both and Onana is a much better defensive player than Garner. Onana has the attributes and has had the performances to show he can be a top class player. Notably against Arsenal last season in Dyches first game he put in one of the best midfield performances of the season which Garner has never done. Garner is more consistent than Onana, and that's really what Onana needs to do to make that next step but it's upper level is far beyond Garner who is a solid PL player but doesn't have the minerals to be or become a starting player at a top side. There's a reason the top clubs are consistently sniffing around Onana and not Garner.

I'm not saying Onana doesn't have potential, I'm saying right now in my opinion he's your 4th best CM. And he's injury prone so there's no guarantee he'll reach his potential. That's why I find the constant mentions of him as someone to be signed by the big clubs slightly odd. He wouldn't be cheap and he's by no means a sure thing.

He might start for us because we're a bit shit. But he also might not because he's not consistently good yet, and you'd be paying what like £60m+ to get him from Everton? It would be crazy.

I get the feeling he is what United need. To rise the "hard to beat " factor. Difficult to play against United factor.

Next year and future Casemiro replacement.

Mainoo - Onana . CM duo in a 4231 formation.

I think this boy can play CB as needed too. Special when Casemiro is still here next season.

He is tall, aggressive and has good tackling. CB/DM/CM. I think he can deliver good jobs in all of those positions.

Dalot - Onana - Martinez - Shaw. Example.

A player that can do both Casemiro and Varane jobs in one. On a consistent high level. I think he is what United need.

And 22 perfect young age to fit in Uniteds young promising players.

Shall give Arsenal a battle for his signature.

It was a great leap for the goal. He seems to coast a lot though, looks like he could be more involved to me. Team mates don't seem to pass to him all that much mind.

I think he or Ederson from Atalanta would be my pick to replace Casemiro.

I'm sure Ederson will be in the PL next season either way, he looks tailor made for it.

He would be an amazing signing for a our squad. He could replace Casemiro, Amrabaat and Mctominay in our squad, when it comes to their strengths and profile. Maybe not Scott's goals, but would actually play in midfield unlike him.

He's an interesting one for the summer. With Martinez we need to compensate with height elsewhere for set pieces and he's good in the air. Mainoo also needs legs alongside.

Is he good enough on the ball?
