Football narratives really can be great sometimes. Good to see him score after this week

I thought he played poorly outside of the goal, but it looks like im in the minority.
I wouldn’t say poorly but he wasn’t as good as this thread is making out. But it’s a nice redemption story so don’t blame folk.
He took the goal well and had good link up with Shaw. Played him in well really well but when he himself was in around the box it was the same indecisiveness.

First half both he and Shaw played good. Second is a different story for both. Shaw had a second wind towards the end but then that's because he was taking a 20-35 min break..

Doesn't help he had Rashford in front of him defending and it's his second game back after a month out but yeah.

World class performance. Shows that if his head is in the right place, Marcus is our best player by a country mile. Our icon, our talisman. Yes, he made a mistake but he was man enough to own it and faced the consequences. We move.

I don't have that much of an issue with what he did last week but he really needs to show more consistency and effort for what he gets paid. Good start but after 30 minutes or so his contribution became poor again.
With Sancho more or less gone, Antony being just bad and none of the kids seeming to be good enough for ten Hag there are not many alternatives so I hope yesterday was the kickstart for the remaining season. Still a long way to go until middle of May.

He should get on the piss midweek more often.
He ran more in the first half than he has all season.

Just hope he keeps his head down and can avoid drama whatever the situation. Both he and we need a good ending to the season.

"Marcus Rashford has now scored eight Premier League goals on Thursdays - only Harry Kane, with 10, has more" - BBC, with one of the most pointless facts I've read in a while.

Credit where its due he looked like he was out to prove a point last night. Normally he would have been sulking that anybody dare question his greatness. Lets see which version turns up in the next game before we start lauding him.

An actual good performance. I guess from now onward he drinks the night before the game.

Three goals in his last three starts...alongside some encouraging performances.

Hopefully he can go on a long run now

If he continues scoring, watch us climb up the league.

He is nowhere near our best player by a country mile.

Indeed he isn't but if he gets his act together he very well could be
Another 2 month purple patch wouldn't make him our best player either. We know what the deal is with him by now, that's what you get. Then he'll go though almost the entirely of another season without doing shit.

"another 2month purple patch"...can it be called a "purple patch" when the player has them regularly?

"Inconsistent" is way more applicaple for Rashford.

Maybe he needs the conflict and drama to give himself a kick up the arse.

Not sure how you can get him to perform every week if that is the case. But let’s hope the recent form (2-3 games) continues for a month at least.

He just seems to lose motivation so easily. When he’s up for it he’s good enough. When he’s bad it’s worse than playing with ten men.
Opposite attitude to Garnacho imo, who has what I'd call positive arrogance, where his head never seems to drop and he never seems to stop trying things that make you tear your hair out when they go wrong. Marcus's head drops completely when things aren't going his way and he decides to be passive and take responsibility as little as possible.

Whilst your description isn't wrong I think Rashford was a little like Garnacho in that respect when he was that age, now the expectation and pressure is much more on Rashford's shoulders, most us accept that Garnacho is young and is still learning so there;s less expectation and pressure, but in a few years he won't escape the critics if he doesn't get better with his end product an decision making, I think he will but then I thought Rashford would as well

It’s hilarious how much the fan base overrates him. The club will not meet its lofty ambitions of domestic and European success as long as Rashford and co. are in the squad.

Have you forgotten last season? Take away his goals and where would we be? He has it in him to be an elite level EPL striker, without a shadow of a doubt. Just need to work on his mental aspect and not let off-field issues (such as girlfriend leaving him) affect his on-field performances.

Nicely taken goal. I have very little time for Rashford but he does seem to be better when Shaw is behind him.

He doesn’t have it in him to be a top premier league striker. He’s 26 and his best seasons are 17, 17, 11, and 10 goals scored in the league. He’s hardly ruthless in front of goal and wouldn’t trust him in a 50-50. People have been churning out the same excuses for years and will presumably continue to do so until he’s about 30 .A team can’t win the league or champions league with Rashford starting. No way. I wouldn’t even have him on the bench. He encapsulates everything that I’ve grown to dislike about the club over the last eight years or so.

Getting better and has shown a lot more in the last 2 games than he has in a while, he'll get there and will make a lot of people eat their words.
What on earth did you see today to come to that conclusion?

Back to the norm again today. Poor decision making and still runs into defenders

Standard performance. Runs into defenders, makes the wrong decisions, doesn’t pick his head up.

The goal last week distracted some fans. This is his level. Should not be a long term option for us, but unfortunately we’re probably stuck with him and that massive contract.

Personally thought he was one of our weakest players today. Enjoyed watching Garnacho and Hojlund more in that front three, more so in the second half.
