No surprise we are winning games with Casemiro and Varane starting them.

People are too obsessed with age and think anyone younger can come in and do better.

These are two world class talents than have done everything in the game, multiple times over. We would be foolish to let either go when we need winners and wise heads to guide the players coming through and give us proven quality in big games.

Once a player turns 30 there is a desperation to just terminate them. Bruno is what, 29 now, next season he’ll be 30. He’s had plenty of terrible games for us, but I’m almost certain that from next season - I’ll be reading that he’s played poorly because he’s finished now and too old. Casemiro is 31, people need to relax a bit. He’s still getting back to full speed, but I think he played well today. But gosh, every missed tackle means he needs to retire now.

Since he came back we have 3 wins. He is our most important player.
He’s a good player but seems ill suited to playing in front foot teams rhese days as is the case with many of our players, sadly. Having numerous players like this who constantly turn posssesion over when the press is applied on them is what leads to us having to sit back and play plucky counter attack footy.

I’d happily keep him as a squad player for many years due to his mentality, experience and defensive abilities. But I’d imagine he’s one of our best paid players in which case a squad role doesn’t make sense beyond a year or so. Of course we actually have to have someone better than him for that transition to have and we don’t - he’s first choice for now and rightfully so.

I don’t think anyone needs to retire now but we do have to think about the team we want to be. Today our midfield was pretty much a non factor throughout the game because as soon as Villa started pressing, we couldn’t handle it and relied on quick breaks. It’s no surprise with players like Bruno and Casemiro who don’t have the quick feet and speed of thought to find their way out of tight spaces. It’s exactly what Mainoo brings but he’s just one (very young) player.

That’s doesn’t mean that Bruno and Casemiro are worthless. Bruno when in form offers great end product and work rate. Casemiro has a terrific mentality and defensive qualities (even goals at times). But generally as a team we make too many concessions in our quality in possession and hang on to players becuase of a lack of alternatives / end product / winning mentality and then wonder why we get dominated by so many other teams when it comes to general play.

He's a serious issue in our side. He looks 40, not 30. He's slow, he doesn't carry the ball well, passing is weird sometimes. He's good at defending because of experience, but he's always on a card, and I always fear he's gonna cost us points.

Do you watch our games, ffs? He is literally vital for us.
But you are right, that moment in xy minute when he was dribbled .....get rid.
I do yeah. Game of opinions but thought we were overran in midfield for most of that game and many previous ,

Don’t dislike Casemiro and he was very important last season but we needed to bring in legs around him this summer instead we brought in Mount. Now mainoo is likely the future of our midfield so it likely needs to be Casemiro that’s upgraded.

He May well be vital for us at the moment but for me that’s more because of the lack of any decent alternatives in the squad.

Great contribution last season. Now another problem to be fixed. Just not reliable to have in their, because he dives in too much and will get a yellow far too often.

We have allowed a narrative that he makes tough challenges. He has received 3/4 undeserved yellow cards this year.

Watching him waddle around it’s inconceivable we will keep him beyond this season. Even playing once a week he can’t keep up with pace and is so flat footed. Lucky to only get one yellow.

I am not going to comment on his defending as I feel we are poorly set up as a team but technically he is toilet. He has the composure and decision making of a meth user

He was shite. But the yellow card he got, shouldn't really have been a yellow. The second tackle came off trying to control a shit pass, wasn't all his fault.

Watching him jog around, throwing himself aimlessly to the ground and constantly giving the ball away only to cut to a close up of him smiling or laughing is absolutely infuriating.

Treating United as a retirement home, where he can pick up £400k a week and just piss around every game with no tactical discipline or care in the world.

Really was utter bobbins today. I get the feeling that he views his stint with us like most top players view moving to MLS. It’s all a bit of a laugh and who cares what the final score is so long as the direct deposits keep coming.

He's just a bit rubbish isn't he this season. Yagami was right, we never should have signed him and he's not nearly press resistant enough to excel in the PL in CM. Another one for the scrap heap.

The booking was for persistent fouling, not the foul itself. Better must be demanded from Casemiro.

Might be wrong but he looks done at this level.

I'm not 100% sure he's done but one thing is for sure he is not cut out for playing technical football. We can't really move the ball through the midfield with him because any pressure on him and his touch and passing can't handle it.

Yet another absolute shocker of a game. Not been remotely good since this time last year.

He’s done at this level and has been for a while. He can’t keep up with the tempo - neither on the ball or off. He flies into tackles and pisses balls away. Our most urgent need is a DM who can cover ground and dictate the game.

Got a pre-assist

Really bad on the ball and then further compounded the performance with the yellow. I'll back him to have a good game next one though.

He's been awful this season. One of my biggest disappointments and he doesn't seem to be improving anytime soon. When he's not injured, he looks like he's doing to get carded and therefore suspended. That being said, he is our current only viable option to play next to Mainoo in midfield. Every other player has a significant drawback, or at least the Casemiro option is the one that is easier to stomach.

Having him back is definitely not a reason our results have improved. Liability.

you are not wrong. He felt the #6 role was almost non-existent at times. A young mainoo played that role better than him. I respect Casemiro, his career demands respect, but he is not what we need now especially with his wages. We need to sell him and get someone similar to casemiro’s younger version. Not sure who though…

His lack of pace has really caught up with him. Unfortunately, he seems to compensate for this by trying to tackle early rather than perhaps standing off the tackle and playing slightly deeper when players are dribbling at him - and the result is almost always a foul with him these days (with the inevitable yellow card to follow). Unless he has a mindset shift and realises he needs to adapt his game, I'm worried his off-the-ball recklessness won't change anytime soon.

I think that was a bullshit yellow against Luton. Refs are buying what our opponents are selling, but I think if they looked at those fouls on VAR they'd not be yellows. That said, we should be bringing in a replacement this summer and having a big bon voyage party for him.

Zero coverage back and forth. I want to see him play alongside Martinez and Mount before thinking of shipping him away.

Why? Martinez can't be expected to bail out long past-it team mates all of the time.

0-7
2-2
0-2
2-3
1-3
1-3
3-4
4-3

27 goals conceded in 8 games there. All those results in the last 10 or so games that Martinez and Casemiro have started together. No one is good enough to mitigate the damage Casemiro's presence has been causing, fully fit or not.

He is so immobile.
Yes he’s slow but he moves like someone has spent 20 minutes beating the shit out of him before the match.

We really should go after Onano (Everton) to play alongside Kobee. Keep Casemiro as back up and as mentor for Kobee
