We need a left back in the summer. Not some Telles/Malacia signing. A proper one. Shaw can play second fiddle, but not for long because Amass will be coming through.

Well that's fecked it.

Finally get Martinez and Shaw back and they're both gone again in a few weeks. Ridiculous.

Rushed back, clearly not fit, now possibly out for the season. I get that Shaw does have injury problems but we're basically asking for him to get hurt playing him like this and it's been like this for the past couple of months. He gets injured, we rush him back and play him every minute of every game, he gets a reoccurring injury. It's hard for me to blame Shaw too much in this scenario.

I agree. He was withdrawn the weekend before as a precaution, then why start him the following week? It doesn't sound like he was properly ready.

FFS! Terrible luck with injuries. Him and Martinez are our two most important defenders and they face another lengthy spell on the injury table after not long returning. I really hope we don’t go to shit again after we’ve finally started to build a bit of momentum for the first time this season.

Let him recover. I think the whole backline needs to be replaced, though not possible in one window. Injury prone or old or ineffective.
We shouldn't be relying on a broken Shaw next season. That long contract is gonna bite us in the ass.

We need new players at LB. Malacia is gone forever, never to be seen again, and Shaw is available only half the time. And he is only good half of that time. That's just not good enough, regardless of the quality he may possess. I wouldn't have minded keeping him, but this is too much.

Is Shaw injury prone? Obviously. But, I think the bigger issue is that we have no backup for him. It seems like a lot of his injuries this season are a result of him being rushed back, forced to play several full games in a row, and then getting hurt again. I don't see how it's a surprise he got hurt today, he clearly wasn't fit enough to start.

This wouldn't be an issue if Malacia was still alive or we had Reguilon still but as things stand we just keep throwing a half fit Shaw in to the starting lineup and acting shocked when he gets hurt again.
Yeah but what do you do when you have no options as they are injured and every game is a must win game.

I'm glad we got some games out of him, he could have done this in training

Time to get rid, not reliable at all. That last contract we gave him was a big mistake.

Luke being out for the rest of the season is really bad news, Lindelof at left back against Liverpool or City will probably end in disaster

We might see him in the league cup next year if he keeps playing well. Chances of him starting consecutive games for us in league is very slim indeed. Just my opinion. He looks good but I don’t get the same feeling as when I watched Mainoo or Greewood or even Laird to be honest. Shaw would have stood out in the same way. I think we need to go into the market to find a player who can take shaws place from next season on. Enough is enough. Also these players that get used a lot from when they are very young seem to be a lot more prone to constant injuries when they are older

His build reminds me of Rooney and he was usually injured for two or three months every season too. We may need to sign a left-back in the summer.

Hamstring injury covering the remainder of the season, with no surgery? Seems awfully long.

You’d hope Malacia isn’t as dead as we all seem to think he might be, or AWB returns from whatever has been keeping him out.

Lindelof or Amrabat in that position for anything more than 10 minutes is absolute torture.

We’re all grateful for the emergence of Mainoo and Garnacho in recent times, but you can’t see another success story aged 16 right now. It’s a tough position, especially the way we play and can’t control games.

He could finish the season with just 15 appearances? feck's sake, and people think he doesn't need replacing!?

His talent when he's on form and fit is not in question but he hasn't put in two seasons in a row where he's been top class. His pattern in the last few years has been one good season and then one struggling season. You can't continue with that. We need a new left back.

Nonsense. Rooney only had a couple of injuries that kept him out for long spells. He made 40+ appearances nearly every season over 13 years. Compare that to Shaw who has only made 40+ appearances 3 times in 10 years.

He's no great loss anyway and should be shipped out in the summer.

Zero intensity to his game.

Get rid please. This is ridiculous.
The time to get rid was last year before giving out a new contract and stock was sky high. Yet, we believed that last year was the norm and not an aberration.

Don't worry guys, two good games into new season against shite opposition next year and usual suspects(usually English fans) will say everyone who wanted to replace him was an idiot, and that he probably deserves new contract or something.

In possession he's a fabulous player but out of possession he's not really a great defender.
That's my unpopular opinion today. I will now run away.

Why do people keep saying get rid?

Very rarely can clubs move on injury-prone players who have long-term contracts. What should be done is getting a new left-back as a starter and using Shaw as a squad player when he's available.

14/15: 21 games missed

19/20: 27 games missed

20/21: 8 games missed

21/22: 20 games missed

22/23: 8 games missed

34 games so far this season. He has been unavailable for 20 of them. So in 4 of the last 7 seasons he has missed 20+ games.

Shove your metrics. Club needs to move on with a stable left back that helps build a stable backline. Not a good left back who misses half the season and we struggle to adapt when he's gone.

35 games so far this season. He has been unavailable for 20 of them. Off injured in our last two and will now miss the final 13 games of the league and however long the FA Cup run lasts. So a minimum of 33 games missed this season.

Spread across 10 seasons, he now misses on average 23.9 games a season.

If you want to be generous and take the freak leg break season out of the equation, it would be 18.8 games a season.

We can't persist with trying to build a solid backline with a player who isn't available almost half the time.

Availability is the first quality, he's good but he misses way too many matches. Get rid.

What happens to Malacia next season then? When he’s no longer injured. For the same reason you mentioned, he won’t be sold this summer either.

I honestly don't understand this club.
Malacia must have gotten both his legs cut off with the amount of time he's injured, so everyone knew he won't be avaliable. Why loan out Fernandez? Why not get another LB on loan if spurs recalled Reguilon? What was the plan? Everyone were just fine with having one very injury prone LB for more then half a season? Shambolic (lack of) planning.

Ten Hag allowing Reguilon to return and loaning out Fernandez when he knew Shaw was our only fit LB is fecking baffling decision making. Especially considering how injury prone we all know Shaw is.
Who told you that was Ten Hags decision?
