That’s literally why I asked, because it’s a different world that I didn’t know anything about. No need for the snarky tone.

Appreciate the responses everyone
Sorry, did not mean to come across as snarky towards you. Just meant to highlight how crazy the industry is. I still remember when I started watching European football many years ago I was completely dumbfounded that they were selling players/human beings for profit! My apologies.

I would guess that it relates to non-compete clauses and would be be akin to CEOs in other industries and dealings in intellectual property. You are also dealing with absolutely massive egos when it comes to the owners of these clubs. This is a club owned by Saudi Arabia and I doubt many people have told MBS no in his lifetime and not dealt with his vengeful streak.

We are in a mess with Ten Hag but we could have had Eddie Howe who a lot of United fans wanted as well. I'm not sure who would be worse to be honest.

I doubt either of them will be managing come the end of the season

They'll be managing their ambitions and expectations.

This point reminds me of the Aesops fable about the spider that laughed cynically when the elephant tried to crush his (sorry, "THEIR") web and missed but then trod on the spider, annihilating the dumb as feck arachnid in the process. This thread and any like it have come to resemble an episode of Emmerdale Farm without the Woolpack scenes.

Random children wearing Newcastle tops getting battered by actual senior professional players aside... what the feck are doing on tour in Australia 5 minutes after the season is over?

Oh fair enough. That was a silly comment of mine.
Nah I just think it’s a bit silly to laugh at them without knowing the context. Although to be fair they probably still shouldn’t have lost that bad. That’s what you get for playing friendlies in late May.

Yeah. Spurs played Newcastle in a friendly the other day in which Trippier got injured. Which is very weird. Why are they playing friendlies just after the season? I know the answer is money, but still. It’s fecking stupid and unnecessary. Why not wait until July to play these friendlies?

He didn’t, the sub was pre-planned. It is beyond stupid, I agree.

Chelsea went one better and once played a post season friendly before the season had actually ended. We had a Europa League final coming up, and you can probably guess we didn’t get out of that game unscathed. Loftus-Cheek ruptured his Achilles playing on that stupid artificial pitch and was out for a whole year

Good grief. Whoever arranged that should have been sued.

Will need to sell Guimaraes now I think as they'll have certainly budgeted for Europe after last season.
