Honestly it would just make me question Ashworth's judgement rather than give me any kind of comfort over the appointment. Southgate has generally done a good job with England especially in terms of building a culture but in key moments he's been found wanting (as have some of his star players in fairness) and that follows on from the bad job he did in club football which is probably more relevant.
I would much rather have Moyes back.

Can't see anything significant about Southgate as a prospect for United manager.
Creates a good environment for players perhaps but that's harder to replicate domestically with games, pressure and demanding schedule on a weekly basis.
I also don't rate Gareth too well on a tactical front, the preference for him as a manager could be down to hierarchical perceptions alone which is why there could be a sense of truth despite it sounding massively outlandish.

Ogden hasn't had real links in ages. It's a nothing rumor that some reporters who obsess over Southgate are trying to will into existence, but isn't reality.
I think it has to be either Inzaghi or Nagelsmann, we need a fresh modern way of thinking and I really enjoy watching Nagelsmanns teams and Inzaghi has inter playing some really good stuff, and I’m a sucker for 3 at the back

Southgate and Poch; why? What have they achieved as managers at club level? Bugger all. Southgate took Middlesbrough down and then quit football for about 4 years and Pocch did nothing at Southampton and Spurs, though they were pretty to watch, and yes he won the French League in 2122, the Coupe de France 2020/21 and the French equivalent of our League Cup, all with PSG the biggest club in France by miles where Id expect my granny to be able to win something! Southgates record as England manager isnt exactly earth shattering, Runners Up in EUFA Championship 2020 and 3rd in the EUFA Nations League, a tournament created to fill in the gap between the 2018 and 2022 World Cups due to the EUFA Championships of 2020 being cancelled. Yes he has a 62% win record but a World Cup or EUFA Championships are nothing like Premier League football at which Southgate failed dismally. Id rather we stayed with Ten Haag than go for either of these two.
Turns out I actually back Ten Hag for life if the Southgate shite is true, that would be a staggeringly poor appointment.
Southgate is the poster boy of English football and in the eyes of his followers can do no wrong, the trouble is he hasnt got much right either!
But not a winning environment; winning seems to be less important to him than saying and doing the "right" things and not ruffling any feathers.

The more I watch Inter Milan play, the more I find myself wanting Simone Inzaghi as a coach here. He's mastered the art of playing fluid, attractive football without relying heavily on star players. Impressively, he's transformed players like Darmian, Mkhitaryan, and Sanchez into the stars we once hoped they would be.
Smart tactically (though he went a bit conservative at the Metropolitano), leads the major European leagues in fewer goals conceded, and most scored. Has CBs bombing forward and has shown adaptability with a string budget.
There may be questions about his ability to adjust to the Premier League and life in England. However, in my opinion, his potential benefits outweigh the risks, making him a gamble worth taking

I think ETH will get time, baring a major collapse this season. Ratcliffe answer about Arsenal and Arteta was very telling but I admit could also mean “give it to Southgate / Potter for 4 years”

Personally for me - this is Pep's last season at City.
He is trying things & younger players that just dont work as smoothly as last season because he just doesn't care as much after winning the treble last year. He did his job and he knows it. He is going to give it a go again with the momentum of the club but with younger players like Foden, Doku, Bobb etc because he wants to leave City with a good group of younger players (this is why Mahrez & Gundogan etc left IMO).
Then Klopp has already said he is leaving this season aswell.
IMO, the next season is going to be very open almost like Leicester City title win season because the chances are that only really Arsenal will have the same group of players and manager to be favourites for the title (which could happen this year making them instant favourites for the coming year).
I say this because I think we genuinely might have a chance of going for the title next year because this could be Ten Hag's 3rd season in a time when the league itself is going to be weakest of the past decade. (@Adnan made an excellent post about how Ten Hag's transitional team was nearly there & arguably only needed the correct high line CB's to have a complete competing first 11)
We either stick with Ten Hag and go for the title, or we go for someone who is automatically the best options in the world under Pep & Klopp as soon as they leave.

I personally hate Jose for example, but if he was never hired post LVG then i think even he could have been an option to come in a season without Pep & Klopp to scruff out a quick short term title win just to provide some context because he wouldn't struggle that hard against Arteta's Arsenal being the title favourites.
Either stick with Ten Hag and go for the title competing with Arteta's 5th year vs Ten Hag's 3rd - or completely go for those aggresive experienced managers that have been able to compete with Pep & Klopp during their career's at different times but maybe lacked their level of consistency & go for it as soon as they leave.

Don't know how reliable Gazzetta Dello Sport or Davide Stoppini are but apparently Liverpool are interested in him as Klopp's replacement but he's not interested in leaving Inter both "for family reasons and sporting ambitions".
His current contract is till 2025 and the current plan is apparently to extend it to 2026 (with an option for an additional year to 2027) but GdS are reporting he's open to staying beyond 2026 too.
Though he said this a couple of weeks ago after the win against Genoa - " At the end of the season we will take stock of these three years together." But GdS reckons he's interested in extending, so make of it what you will. Maybe we have some Italian posters who can shed light on the reliability of Davide Stoppini?

Southgate I guess could be a passable hire if the idea is just to bring in a manager for a year or two while we rebuild. I think he’s done a good job with England, but his club record is bad and tactically who knows if he even has a system really.
Southgate did a good job at lowering expectations and successfully marketing a needed rebuild of the England team, which was definatley needed. He did that job well.

Yeah I feel like he's going to be 'institutionalised' by the national set-up which is so different to weekly management of a club, and our club in particular. I'd be very sceptical of him tbh.
