He joined them last summer, didn't he?I’m a little worried about the signings he made at Southampton last season which ultimately relegated them

They were already relegated. He was effectively tasked with getting them back up, which he won’t now see through.I’m a little worried about the signings he made at Southampton last season which ultimately relegated them
He didn't arrive at Southampton until this summer just gone, and it wasn't announced that he was going there until January 2023.I’m a little worried about the signings he made at Southampton last season which ultimately relegated them
I don’t think he’ll be bringing his Southampton targets list to United, we should be okay.I’m a little worried about the signings he made at Southampton last season which ultimately relegated them
Do we need to sign anyone to get relegated?Let's hope Wilcox doesn't sign players that will relegate us next season
Southgate?Do we need to sign anyone to get relegated?
Yes before his appointment was announced Southampton raided City academy seems suspiciously related. They were already relegated. He was effectively tasked with getting them back up, which he won’t now see through.
United are hiring him based on his work for city rather than Southampton anyway. Think they’d still be hiring him if he’d have been unemployed the last 10 months since leaving city
Last season they signed Gavin Bazunu, Romeo Lavia, Samuel Edozie, and Juan Larios all from Man City academy and this season they've signed Shea Charles from City Academy as well as Taylor Harwood-Bellis who joined on loan.Yes before his appointment was announced Southampton raided City academy seems suspiciously related.
We should just sack off football and do a series of The Apprentice
Completely agree. I would be ok if we can get 2 CBs and 2 MF with the profile you mention even if we cant make any attacking signing. We been so easily to play against because we have so much space between midfield and defense and our defense and those areas lacks so much athleticism, pace, and power to win duels. We need to make a strong flundation first and foremost so with new CBs and MFs we can shore up that areas and at least the losing points will turn to draws.it's a difficult question but i'm expecting us to come out of the window by signing players at CB and in deeper midfield who raise the physical and athletic level of the team without compromising on technical ability in possession. The team currently is soft in those areas in comparison to the teams at the top who have pace and power in abundance which compliments their more technical players in possession and allows the coaching to become more effective due to having a strong foundation at the base of the team. We don't have a strong foundation at all and that needs to change in the coming window if we're to compete with the top teams. Even under Fergie when we had great teams, at times we had to battle and fight to win games by winning duels. And when you can match the opponent's physicality and athleticism, then your superior technical ability will make the difference.
I'm hoping we sign two CBs and a deeper midfielder who have the pace and power along with the technical quality to raise our level in defending large space in defensive transitions out of possession. And also aid our build up capabilities on the ball where we can initiate attacks from the back at a high level. And when you have those players at the back, it will pin the opponent in their own half due to having good technical players on the ball with the added ability of being strong in eating up ground quickly to thwart fast attackers on the counter. We badly lack those players imo.
And of course we also need another striker and possibly another wide attacker. Both Williams and Olise have been mentioned as wide forward options and we just have to wait and see how things develop. I'm optimistic and would be very disappointed if we don't bring in the players that fit the criteria above. My entire focus is on the CBs and deeper midfield position. Getting those signings wrong will mean we carry on playing second fiddle to the top teams over the course of the season.
There are a fair few ex city players doing well in the league now. A few of the above will still have a lot of potential and they made a killing on Lavia. It’s obviously not the most imaginative recruitment from an ex City employee especially seeing as Southampton are supposed to have a good academy themselves. Anyway as long as they don’t do that here!Last season they signed Gavin Bazunu, Romeo Lavia, Samuel Edozie, and Juan Larios all from Man City academy and this season they've signed Shea Charles from City Academy as well as Taylor Harwood-Bellis who joined on loan.
Interesting to hear Hall say on Kandola's show the focus will be on defence and attack, however did say he thinks McTominay and Casemiro will go in the summer. Therefore we need to bring in replacements for them or gonna be too short in that areaCompletely agree. I think anything less than 2 CBs and 1 LB is going to be bad considering there some good free agents and young players around. Even Midfield has some good free agents or palyer on their last year contract that we could get on relatively good fees.
Hopefully, the new personnels that we got could get things running faster than the glazers.
Not only those three, but Donny & Hannibal are likely to be removed from the Midfield pool of options too, so if all 5 of those do move on, it would leave us with only Bruno, Mount, Mainoo & McTominay...!I'm expecting us to lose Eriksen, Casemiro and obviously Amrabat. Do you not think we need two midfielders? Casemiro replacment and someone to rotate with Kobbie
No one is buying Donny. He's staying until end of contract I think. Not only those three, but Donny & Hannibal are likely to be removed from the Midfield pool of options too, so if all 5 of those do move on, it would leave us with only Bruno, Mount, Mainoo & McTominay...!
Yep or he will be released if it’s cheaperNo one is buying Donny. He's staying until end of contract I think.
Didn't they sign a City member of staff the season before Wilcox? Shields or somethingLast season they signed Gavin Bazunu, Romeo Lavia, Samuel Edozie, and Juan Larios all from Man City academy and this season they've signed Shea Charles from City Academy as well as Taylor Harwood-Bellis who joined on loan.
Given how little he plays and the contract he is on, could "sell" him on a free even.I expect Donny to go but we're going to make a huuuuge loss on him.
Can see him going for under 5 million.
They did yesDidn't they sign a City member of staff the season before Wilcox? Shields or something
Great if true but like i said, even if we couldnt make any attack signings, its good for me if we change our defence and midfield. Our defense and midfields not match on what we wanna play. When we look at other top teams or emerging teams they all have athleticism, pace, power, along with technical players while we looks so unfit. We seems to not win any duels on MF and Defence areas enough to thwart dangers and that make our attacks impotent and looks disjointed because they have to rush back to defend. Shore up these 2 areas first and then wait to add one attack on winter maket or going full force next one (these only if we areInteresting to hear Hall say on Kandola's show the focus will be on defence and attack, however did say he thinks McTominay and Casemiro will go in the summer. Undisclosed fee (nada).I expect Donny to go but we're going to make a huuuuge loss on him.

We've already lost the biggest amount of the money on him, there's only 7million (I'm assuming he hasn't triggered whatever addon bonus' were in the contract) worth of cost left in his contract in the summer. Once you factor not having to pay his wages for another year (~6.5mil) for not playing very much football, even under 5m would produce a marginal saving.I expect Donny to go but we're going to make a huuuuge loss on him.

Nope. We need to stop putting all the responsibility onto single individuals. No more it’s all Woodward/Arnolds fault, no more it’s all Murtoughs fault, no more it’s all the managers fault and no more giving people too much responsibility, too wide a remit and putting them out of their depth/hanging them out to dry.Hopefully he has a midas touch.
That would imply that we’re even in for Todibo, just because the papers say we are doesn’t mean we are just like David Gill wasn’t being seen with Brailsford because he was about to be given the job Berrada was given just a couple of weeks later.Well its hard to have confidence in their ability to negotiate for players when they seemingly cant even agree a deal for Todibo from another club they own.
I think INEOS intend to, after patching up the first team in the first couple of seasons, adopt a strategy where they focus more on young signings then use their other clubs to give them game time in preparation for United. He was a key player in City's academy so you would expect he knows the market for players in the 16 to 20 age bracket. This seems a bit of a strange appointment from the outside looking in. Unlike Ashworth, theres nothing on his CV that particularly stands out & his stint at Southampton looks underwhelming at best.
I’m guessing this is Berrada’s influence and he knows him from his City days? Which in that case I guess we just have to trust he knows what he’s doing!
You are making way too many extravagant assumptions here. I want him to have " the midas touch" at his designated job, to Manchester United's benefit.Nope. The magic will be made in the whole structure built from specialists, focused on there own part of the process all working toward the same end goal. It will take Berrarda, Ashworth, Wilcox, and who ever else is appointed to MUGA.
You seem to be assuming that because I replied to your post my ‘mini rant’ was aimed at you. It wasn’t. Stand down soldier. You are making way too many extravagant assumptions here. I want him to have " the midas touch" at his designated job, to Manchester United's benefit.
This does not necessarily equate:
to not desiring the system to be of peak competence.
wanting things to be "his sole responsibility".
I don't understand it would take a team effort for the entire front offive recruited to succeed.
So your mini rant is strange indeed.. ..
You know you ACTUALLY quoted me, right? You seem to be assuming that because I replied to your post my ‘mini rant’ was aimed at you. It wasn’t. Stand down soldier.
That would be the ‘replying to your comment’ that I mentioned. You know you ACTUALLY quoted me, right?
Chappers in one of us, isn't he? Probably has an account on the Caf...Is he going to have to stop presenting MOTD2 when he joins us?
