Would you not take Thiago in a few years if he became available? Of course you would, as you would with any player who is worth it. Only a weirdo wouldn't want Ozil because he turned us down in 2010.

Did he even turn us down? I just remember SAF saying "there's a lot of clubs that want Özil" when asked one time but I don't think there was an official rejection, was there?

He made his Real Madrid bed, let him lie in it. Kagawa said he would have moved heaven and earth to move to Old Trafford, that's the sort of player I like seeing wearing our shirt.
Weirdo.

It's not really that controversial to pick Real Madrid ahead of United as your destination when you have both clubs bidding, given the chance the vast majority of continental players would have done the same.

So Khedira and Ozil, eh? I could roll with that. In fact, I'd love that.
Khedira always appeared cumbersome and awkward to me. I'm not saying he's a bad player but he doesn't strike me as possessing the undoubted quality that we require in the middle-third. He'd still be an improvement on Cleverley and Anderson, mind. Although I'd prefer Fellaini myself.

Ozil is a fantastic footballer but I'd prefer Kagawa to get his chance in the no.10 role if I'm honest. I think Shinji could take the league apart this season if he gets regular game-time there.

So you wouldn't want Ronaldo to come back considering the hissy fits he threw to go to Madrid?

Give or take two years, yeah they are.
18 months actually, not much of a difference especially as central midfielders usually play longer at a high level.

This rumor is starting to grow rapidly.

Is this a case of it has a chance of happening? Or the fact that it is a year today since Van Persie and we are starved of top signings?

Khedira-Carrick would be very similar to the Alonso-Khedira midfield that won the La Liga for Madrid against one of the best club sides of all time. I have no doubt Khedira would be great here, a very good box to box midfield who could also screen the defence if he had to.

I'd love Kagawa to get his chance at number 10 too, but you can't really scoff at the chance of getting Ozil. Kagawa/Ozil could play in the inside forward position that Pienaar played with Moyes' Everton quite well I think, so no qualms there for me.

I've been on record before as saying I wouldn't pull our knickers down for him again. If he wants to come back here for a reduced fee and a lesser contract, fine. Being the sceptical bastard that I am, I suspect Ronaldo's eyelash-fluttering towards us this summer is only a ploy to get the enlarged contract he desires at the Bernabeu.

Indeed they are a year and a half apart, what difference does it make?
Yeah exactly, and it's in a position we are in greater demand for, and in terms of the age thing CM's usually peak much later at around 30

Nothing is so common as the wish to be remarkable.
I hope not, Modric is a decent player, but he's not worth 40m. I suppose the problem is we're going to have to overpay for whatever CM we decide to go for. Throw some cash for Matic, he's a class CM and would be a cheaper option.
Thing about Modric is he has excelled in premier league. Would count as a huge positive in our opinion.
However, I would take in any quality midfielder and not pin hopes on just one.

Can't see why we'd bid £40m for Ozil but not Fabregas.

Because we may know Ozil is available at 40m, imagine him as an eBay item with a Buy It Now badge.

Whereas Barca didn't actually put Fabregas on eBay, so we made a blind bid to see what response we got.

It's an interesting rumour, but I don't know how strong a story it is. Basically if it was a strong story, the show wouldn't have used Gallardo to introduce the idea.

I do think we're talking to Madrid about someone.

This makes no sense whatsoever. Ozil is a brilliant footballer but he is even less flexible than Kagawa and will have to play in that attacking midfield position to be fully effective.

And just to further how illustrate how this is bullshit, we've now been rumoured to have been in contact with Samuel Eto'o's agent... clearly there is no rumours/interest of substance coming out of OT so people have resorted to making shit up for the giggles.

I never said he wasn't, but we already have too many players competing for that spot already (including Rooney for now), it's not like it's a cheap one either at 40m. Why not just strengthen that position next to Carrick instead..?

Would love to see Ozil and Khedira with us - at least the latter will give us some shape in the midfield and supply cover for Carrick's position when he's out.

In a 4-2-3-1, I can definitely see Ozil, Kagawa and Nani able to interchange.

I'd agree on your main point, but I'd say just to ignore the people acting like it wouldn't be a fantastic signing (even though in reality I'd be shocked if this was actually happening).

That said, he's not a 'shit-tonne' better than Kagawa. Kagawa at his best is an absolute immense player that stands up there alongside most of the best AM's in the world.

With a front 4 of Ozil Kagawa RvP and Zaha we don't NEED a midfield :)

At All.

It would be like Utd of old, you score one, you score two, we'll score plenty more than you.

Bring it on.

That makes a bit more sense, but to me it just reinforces the idea that we were never seriously in for Fabregas.

Are you mental? On what planet does Zaha overtake Januzaj to be in that trio?

This has been my point all along. We need Cesc so much more. I truly doubt if we are in for Özil that we will bid anywhere near that.
