I can't see us getting Ozil, although the muppet in me would jizz at the thought of signing Ozil. We don't need him as we have Kagawa and I'm not sure Madrid would sell him. Kind of a dead end there to be honest. Modric on the other hand is a lot more attainable.

If Ozil Comes to United, Wow!

And if we sell Rooney for a similar price, we will be able to bring in a couple more top names.

Can we triple raid Madrid for Ronaldo, Modric and Ozil, giving them money, Rooney + a first option on all our players for sale or that want to leave for the next 5 years.

Heck, i'm not greedy. A double raid for Modric and Ozil for Money + Rooney. That will be me sorted.

I quote Sir Alex: sometimes when a quality player becomes available, you just have to go for him. You can always find room for quality players in a squad.

Note: not saying Ozil/Modric is available

If we sign Ozil and play him with Kagawa and Rooney/A.N.Other as a three behind RVP, then all you really need is a functional midfielder, capable of winning the ball and giving it to the players further forward. The need for a proper top drawer midfielder beside Carrick is lessened, in my opinion, if you improve the creativity in front of them. Might be the kind of move we'd make if getting a top central midfielder is proving difficult.

Clev and ando could be given another year.

I hope not, Modric is a decent player, but he's not worth 40m. I suppose the problem is we're going to have to overpay for whatever CM we decide to go for. Throw some cash for Matic, he's a class CM and would be a cheaper option.
Bore off with your money talk.

I don't want us signing Khedira or Ozil from Madrid. The only two players we should be after from them are Ronaldo and Modric.

Really don't understand this talk of Ozil being similar to Kagawa. In terms of their position yes but Kagawa isnt even close to Ozil in terms if creative passing and creating chances, Kagawa is much more of a goal scoring AM in my eyes. Fantastic but with a different skill set.

Really don't see the point of signing Ozil, fantastic player though he is. We lack goalscorers in the side, especially if we are to lose Rooney. He's not the sort of player we need. We need a proper CM. And if we are to lose Rooney, then we'd need a goalscorer to replace him.

Modric, on the other hand...

People keep referencing RvP being a success as a reason we shouldn't worry about fitting Ozil in to the team, but isn't RvP's signing seemingly one of the main reasons Rooney now wants to leave?

I'd happily take Ozil, I just don't understand that logic.

Reposting from the other thread as I see this one is active. I mentioned this last night during the show but I'll fill in a few details now. Whoever the target is, it did sound like United are talking to someone still.

------------------

Just to give a bit of background. The discussion was on Punto Pelota, Gallardo who they treat as part clown part village idiot told them Madrid were expecting a bid of 45.6m Euros for a "foreign player".

They then played guess the player and the buyer. Siri Lopez immediately said 45.6m, that's an English club bidding 40m pounds. He then followed up with the only club considering paying that kind of money for an "available" Madrid player is United - as Coentrao and Pepe are cheaper than that. Several of the regulars (who often break stories) agreed that Madrid did have an excess of midfielders and that United have been talking to the club for a while, and that at that price Madrid would have to listen.

Lopez said he reckoned the one closest to a deal was Ozil, because he's the one looking most distressed about the arrival of Isco, and the possible arrival of Bale. He's also been tagged as someone who plays worse when he's got to compete for a starting place.

Modric is the more obvious option for us, but it's not at all obvious that Madrid are willing to sell - he's one year into his contract, he has been getting steadily better. He is the closest they've got to a direct stand in for Alonso, who may not be a fit enough to do a full season.

Anyway, as I said, it does hark back to a story back in June that we were going to bid on Ozil and Khedira. A story that cooled after we started bidding for Fabregas.
Thanks for the info.
Their conclusions are, however, flawed.
This is obviously our opening bid for Ronaldo.

Well you'd hope in most situations, competition for places/better players coming in makes the existing players you have up their game and force their way into the side... as opposed to throwing a hissy-fit and demanding a move when they realise they're probably not as good as that other bloke.

40m is fair price for Ozil but I don't know where we will fit him. Let's see if this is reported by multiple sources.

£40m for Özil??? Are you fecking kidding me? This transfer won't happen in a million years even if we go there and give each and one of the people at Madrid FC a blowjob. It could maybe happen if we were to offer £50m, but anything less than that is dreamful thinking. Either way I am still hoping my source was right about the Modric-transfer.

it's hilarious to an extent.

I wouldn't give two fecks if Kagawa was shunted out to the left to accommodate Özil, because, it's fecking ÖZIL!
Kagawa plays on the left of the "three" for Japan anyway, cos Honda plays centre. Doesn't Oezil tend to float around for Madrid - him, Ronaldo and Di Maria all seem to change around?

So quiet on the United transfer front (from what fans know), any morsel of rumour is welcomed, however shite!

It'll be like having two Kagawas. And we already play the one we have out of position.

This would only make sense if Moyes is looking at a different system going forward.

Not the kind of player we need but 40m for Ozil would be a ridiculously brilliant deal. If there's any chance we can get him we should be pouncing even if it's 50m+

Only if we have money left for one or two proper CMs

There's too much of an overlap with Kagawa for this to make sense, especially when we have wingers who would complement the team much better than having these two in the team at the same time.

feck cm's. We have done without one for a good while, another season won't hurt. If we can get Ozil then we should regardless of whether there's any money left over for a CM
